Bump
Saw a pair of Albanian SKSs at the militaria show today.
I've decided I want to by a sks for innawoods purposes. But I know little about the gun itself. Tell me what a fag should know.

Where did you get the metal heat shield? I want on on my sks in pic related.
>>34355371
Very reliable, great round for the brush, easy to take apart, a bit front heavy (even heavier with a yugo sks) I'm going to take my bayonet off so it's not as heavy
>>34355371
There are various grades of sks, Russian is generally the best but are 400-500 in the US, Chinese and yugo SKS are good quality but starting to get expensive, should be an infographic floating around listing all the different SKS but Chinese and yugos are the most common

If you get a yugo sks and shoot corossive ammo, clean the fuck out of it. Get a Russian (after '51) or Chinese (stamped steel though) because they have chrome lined barrels, even though it decreases the accuracy a tiny bit

I'll take my 51 non chrome with free float pin thank you very much

I'm >>34355385
and I'm not too sure if my barrel is chrome lined. Some people it's very unlikely it is unchromed. Got a pic of your bore so I can compare?
>>34355966
No but it'll be fairly obvious at the crown
>>34356167
Why do you like non chrome lined better? I guess sometimes there isn't chrome on the end of the barrel. I also looked in the chamber to see chrome but It doesn't look like it's lined

because he's a dumbass. he also likes the free float firing pin even though it's the culprit for slam fires. the original design with the spring was far better.
>buy perfect condition, museum grade russian sks
>never want to shoot it
I made a mistake, I should've just gotten a cheap chinese beater
>>34356191
>implying slam fire isn't good
Summerfagging this hard
>>34356191
I'm going to get a spring loaded firing pin, I've had a couple bursts when firing it.

Got pics?

canadians itt
>>34356191
jesus how dirty do you fucks let your sks get to slam fire? do you dumbasses ever take the bolt apart and clean that cosmoline and 30 year old gunk before you bitch?
>>34355966
if it is a yugo then it is definitely not chrome lined. Most ammo these days is non-corrosive, just clean your barrel and it should last a while
>>34355385
check on ebay, its called "ventilated sks gas tube guard" or something like that. i am going to get one soon. Its the little pin that holds the wood on that tends to be a bitch to remove.

shot my Chinese sks for the first time today. Worked flawlessly, but sometimes when releasing the bolt to chamber a round it would push the round about halfway in, but not go any further. This would happen every 7 times or so, more often when more than 5 rounds were loaded. The extractor wasn't around the rim at this time.
tulammo btw
