http://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2017/03/03/greece-to-upgrade-f-16-jets-has-no-plans-to-purchase-f-35-for-now/

>Greece was only buying f-35s because Turkey is buying f-35s
>worsening economic situation has lead to the Greek leadership to decide on upgrading existing f-16s in their inventory instead of buying f-35s
>also upgrades to their S-300 air defense system is planned

Are the Greeks making a good choice here? The Turks are going to get 100 f-35s so it looks like the Greek airforce will be vastly outclassed.
>>
>>34353918

Well, since Greece is chin-deep in economic shit, its even a miracle that they can even afford spending cash in upgrading military systems let allone buying new systems alltogether.

>The Turks are going to get 100 f-35s so it looks like the Greek airforce will be vastly outclassed.

While that may be the truth, its also irrelevant since both countries are part of NATO and any Turkish attack would basicaly be a decleration of war to the rest of NATO including the USA. And we all know the inevitable outcome of such a war... A new Ottoman Empire!!! Just kidding.
>>
>>34353918
Looks like the Greek military is pretty fucked, maybe they can look to private donations as extra revenues in the short term?
>>
So first they use their denbt economic aid monies to buy a fucking sub and now they use it to buy F-16s

No wonder they're in so much denbts, I guess they really enjoy being Germoney's bitch
>>
>>34353918
They are both NATO members
>>
>>34353918
Greece would have lost in a war with their main "rival" (turkey) even if they bought the F-35. It's not surprising since their security is more or less secured by the EU and US.

>>34355727
Given that the US complains so much about NATO not pulling its weight, they have a lot of external pressures. Plus, their military budget was hardly the source of their financial problems, and major weapons contracts aren't like going to Walmart and placing an order. They may have had a lot of this stuff scheduled years in advance, before the financial failures.
>>
>>34353918
Greece can't afford enough F-35s to hold off the Turkish hordes anyways. At least the fucking submarine is survivable enough to make sense as a deterrent...
>>
Why does greece need fighter jets?are they afraid another country will invade and steal their homeless people?
>>
>>34353918
>Billions of dollars in debt
>Cannot afford modern cutting-edge technology
Who would have guessed
>>
>>34353918
highly unlikely that Greece and Turkey go to war or something

also geopolitical factors of Greece doesn't require its high military spending.
>>
>>34357488
kek
but for real though, they have had plenty of shooting wars with a certain "secular democracy" to the east
>>
>>34353918
why the fuck are we selling f35s to the turks?
it's like they want the tech to fall into their enemy's hands
>>
>>34358006
Fighting against Su-22's gets boring after a while, so you need to spice things up a little.
>>
>>34358006
After World War 2, the world was split into 2. East and West. This marked the beginning of an era known as the Cold War.

Turkey was Westside, and an important ally to NATO in the power struggle between America and Russia. Turkey even let America place nuclear missiles within it's borders, so close to Russia that they could strike before Russia had time to react. These missiles were instrumental in peacefully resolving the Cuban Missile Crisis. Russia only agreed to cut Cuba loose on the condition that Turkey relinquish its missiles. Turkey agreed, effectively preventing WW3.

So you see, Turkey actually a very nice ally.

To ensure that the cockroaches never get too friendly with vatnikistan. Buying 100 F-35 is a major fucking investment and given that the F-35 is a maintenance hog, sourcing parts will be a major concern. If the roaches misbehave, just threaten to the supply chain and they'll kneel right quick.
>>
Completely understandable as Greece is broke. A lot of people make a big deal about how Greece still spends more than 2% GDP on defense, but that is only because their economy has shrunk so much, and what is left is basically electoral bribes in the form of a jobs program, and meeting ongoing obligations. For comparison, 70% of military spending goes on personnel in Greece, compared to 37% in the USA.
>>
>>34358244
>compared to 37% in the USA
Pssssh, 37% personnel, kid.
>>
>>34353918
>Are the Greeks making a good choice here?

>Spend 6% of GDP on average on the military
>Cold War levels for basicaly no real reason beyond exceptional retardation
>Get bankrupt
>Do nothing to trim military budget
>Spend even more money on more useless toys

No.

That's because they're hacks who think modern fighters need stuff like "radar" when in fact, only night fighters need radar. We should go back to having dedicated day fighters and night fighters. That was a better system. Also, CAS should only be done by dedicated attack aircraft. Single-role. Not multi-role.
>>
>>34358392
>Also, CAS should only be done by dedicated attack aircraft. Single-role. Not multi-role.

I agree with this. No sarcasm. The f-35 is not suited for CAS. We need a plane that can actually take ground fire for that.

>useless toys
get out

>>34353918

Not exactly a big loss for a program planning to build 3400+.

You are fucking retarded.
>>
>>34357823

Balkans to the north
Neo-ottoman empire to the east
Arabs in the south
Greece is in EU sure, but its neighbors are not Sweden and France etc
>>
>>34358006
The Chinese already have everything on the F-35, either by hacking/espionage or the filthy jews selling it to them.

>We need a plane that can actually take ground fire for that.

Or, and here's a novel idea, use PGM that we've had an abundance of since the fucking 90s. You know, those things that allow you to kill motherfuckers dead from a much higher altitude and much more effectively than the dumb bombs, rockets, and occasional maverick we had in the 80s.

Not only that, but the myth that
>muh A-10 takes so much damage
is horse shit. They can handle relatively more damage than your average Gen 4 fast mover yes, but any damage you take generally makes you mission ineffective at best.

It's better to be not shot at all, than to be shot and hope you can manage to limp home.

Greece was living off the denbts for so long, they can't really afford the F-35, no matter how low the price might fall in the following years.

While Murica listened to barking of Eternal Anlo for so long, Argentina will literally suck cocks to get JF-17 for their air force, so they stop being the laughing stock in the region with their propeller fighter aircraft.

While a war isn't likely, Greece has been falling further and further behind Turkey militarily, they need to focus more on defense.

Any nation that does not buy and equip themselves with the F-35 is knowingly leaving their nation weak and vulnerable to aggressor states like Russia.

>Whhy are the roaches so rude
>>

This does not make you a good US ally.

I wish the CIA still gave people the Mossadegh treatment every now and then, just to cut down on this type of bullshit.
>>
>>34360390

Isn't this the third time in the past decade Argentina tried and failed to get 4+ generation fighter aircraft? They tried to get Gripens, but since the UK make parts of the aircraft the Brits told the Swedes it wasn't happening. The Argies tried to get aircraft from Russia but that also went nowhere.

Isn't that what the US is doing? :^)

>>34362114
Sounds like Argentina is getting cucked. Are they still trying to take the Falklands islands?
>>
>>34358125
I mean, the US did betrayed Portugal by funding rebels against their colonies in Angola and Mozambique
>>
>>34362150
>Isn't that what the US is doing? :^)
Ant US gear they got was stolen, from Iraq, from supplies intended for the Kurds, etc.
