Lord knows I have been trying to convince myself of getting a 1911 variant, but I just somehow cannot get myself to do it.
>fits hand well
>sleek and slim, timeless, elegant design
>single action trigger
>about as much heritage and history as a gun can have
but then
>tarded grip safety
>20 feet long slide
>7/8 ROUND CAPACITY
It feels as though if you want to make a 1911 design worthwhile/modern, you have to ditch almost everything that makes it a 1911 in the first place. Bushingless barrels, built-in feed ramps, double stack mags, proper sights, checkered straps,....
But then you stray a looong way from what a 1911 truly was from the get go and it doesnt make any sense anymore and you would be better off getting a modern double stack to fit your needs.
Is this a case of "never met your heroes", or should I just accept the 1911 for what it is and take it for what its worth and love it with all its downsides?
>paying 3000+ for a Nighthawk/Les Baer/Ed Brown for a decent, up-to-date take on the 1911
Yeah, nah.
tl;dr heart wants 1911, dick says M45 MEU, brain says get anything else, wat do?
>>34353689
Just get the 9mm commander length sr1911 then.
>normal length slide
>lightweight
>less recoil and cheaper ammo
>10rnd capacity
Get a FAMAS
>>34353689
>hipower
>cz75
>jericho 941
>>34353689
so be prepared to buy nothing but glawk brand glock and HK forever since you cant bring yourself to buy a fun toy. I have two 1911s, even as a fanboy Ill admit they have some issues modern guns have improved upon but Ii still like them for their niche value. You dont have to carry them or have them be defense weapons either you know
>>34353725
Fuck the other two choices
OP get a Hi Power. Without the mag safety they are in every way superior to the 1911.
>15 round reliable flush fit mecgar mags
>vaunted ergonomics
>not chambered in a clown caliber
>even thinner slide than a 1911, slightly shorter grip which is not any thicker than 1911s (assuming Mk III grips are used)
>NO GRIP SAFETY
> slide is an inch shorter
>external extractor and camming barrel lug >>>> swinging link and finicky internal extractor
>still has a great crispy single action trigger
>comes in classic blues finish or glossy polycoat
And it only weighs 32 ounces!
>>34354020
It has no barrel bushing and has arguably just as much historical significance as a 1911 yet is more practically viable in every way.
The sights are good from the factory and can be replaced with trijicon or mepros
They've been used world wide for decades and we're the gun of choice of the British SAS until they got cucked by the British gov and had to adopt the g17

>>34354139
Don't forget about the savings of 9mm OP

Mk III are pure sex as well
Holy fuck that bluing
>>34353689
What are peoples issues with grip safeties?
Seems like a very sensible safety that won't slow you down when you need to shoot, but stops you from NDing yourself
>>34354217
frame fit is a big one most 1911s grip safetys fit to frame is horrible unless the guns above a grand.
the second would be consistency the grip safety is being depressed different amounts every time you pick up the gun.
pretty much its a non issue with training if the guns built right but most guns arent built right, they are built to acceptable. and who wants to train.
>>34354217
With a high thumbs grip they can be disengaged accidentally, add complexity and don't really prevent nds because most of the time you're going to be gripping the gun when you accidentally fire it. They're useless at best and at worst can get you killed in a self defense shituation. There's a reason soldiers who carried the 1911 often put rubber bands around the safety
>>34354276
It's also a non add
Back to the dump
>>34353689
Get a double stack RIA 1911
>>34354342
(no)
>>34353689
Do you already have a more modern pistol?
1911's are the ultimate hobby pistol. Everyone should get one... as their third or fourth handgun.

If you want learn more (get addicted) about the hi power visit hipowersandhanguns.com
Lots of great info about the HP and lots of other interesting gats
>>34354395
OP there is not a gun for sale that has any advantage over the hi power save for weight, but at 2 pounds the hi power is easily carried, and feels much better in hand than any polymer wonder
>>34354465
Forgot pic
hi powers are sex.

This
I owned an SR1911, pretty well made gun, but grip safety did rattle a bit. Also, the accuracy didn't impress me
You can never force yourself to like a handgun. That's the beauty of the free markert brother, there's multiple choices to suit your needs.
>>34354369
Sorry, OP was talking about 1911s so I didn't mention things that weren't 1911s. If that's the case he should just buy a Glock.
>>34353689
Look for an older (pre remington) para ordinance
Sig makes a good 1911 and so does ruger.
You can also buy a finished frame and then an after market slide and do a semi custom build.
>>34354536
Look at the CZ75 also. I grew up on the 1911, so when it came time for my first pistol I ended up with the USP45. Same manual of arms, even less recoil, 5 more rounds, eats anything you run through it, my favorite gun.
>>34354536
Welcome Hi Power brother
>14 shot clip, you taking on an army?
>>34354575
>inferior aesthetics
>all around bulkier
>inferior single action
>less ergonomic safety
I like them as a railed HD weapon but if I could attach a light to my browning I wouldn't own one. They're also a good option if you have to have Da/Sa.
This is now a Hi Power thread
>>34354637

BEST PISTOL
>>34354707
The only thing that could make it better if if it was in 50.ae
>>34354712
For me the one negative is you can't have front strap checkering on a hi power because the front strap metal is too thin
>>34354846
A little gun-smithing fixes any ;^)
>>34354504
FWIW mine had a little battle rattle, grip safety was a little rattly too. Accuracy wise it did fine for me, but then again i didn't really ask it to do anything more than blow up soft balls at 25yds with reliability.
I've heard some pretty impressive things about the 9mm versions accuracy from the reviews I've seen of it where bench testing was done. several accounts of ~1.5" @ 25 and one or two of ~2" at 25. Im seriously interested in picking one up.
>>34354575
STL area by chance?
>>34354707
>33% great diameter
>>34354932
And from a 3.5" barrel no less!
9mm is still better than 45 all things considered imo but
Ranger T >>>>>>>>> hst > everything else
>>34354384
Pretty much this. The order goes
>practical CC pistol
>practical long gun for desired use
>whatever the fuck you want and can afford
Idk why people make shit so complicated
>>34353689
it sounds like you clearly hate the gun but want to get it because of its fame.
>>34353689
Stop being a Faggot and buy one
>>34355520
I love that colt
Great looking medallion grips as well
>>34355184
I also agree, not every gun has to be your carry/ HD gun.
>>34354872
The problem is when checkering a hi power it's incredibly easy for the gunsmith to create a hole in the front strap. This is why most custom hi powers will instead have stippling on the strap.
Related question:
What are good first 1911s? I'll probably be getting one in 9mm because .45 is literally twice the price of 9mm locally.
>still waiting for the CMP to offer them
>>34356453
Used Springfield or Colt
S&W makes a good one as well if your not much of a traditionalist
>>34356474
>It's never going to happen
Thinking of colt filing bankruptcy again amidst a wave of 1911A1s does make me feel warm and fuzzy though
The gsg sig 1911 chambered in 22lr.
14 rounds, plus 1 round in chamber. With modifications to the mag.
It's clean, it's fun. It's 225 and worthy of love and affection. Threaded barrel is standard so you can shoot in your home.
>>34353689
Buy one of the rock island or ati 1911s. They're resonalbly priced and a pretty faithful recreation of the originals. You know in your heart of hearts the Dan Wessons and Ed browns are overpriced safe queen bullshit, buy something youre not afraid to have fun with and keep maintained
>>34356980
Dan wessons and ed browns are only safe queens if the owner wants them to be. The level of hand fitting, attention to detail, and matierals used make a DW valor at 1500 or RZ45 at 1250 a great value for the money. I get that you like your shitty flip 1911, but please don't even mention quality 1911s like EB or DW in the same post. I can tell you've never handled one or can't afford it, if you could you wouldn't feel the need shit on them.
>>34356042
I've never considered it much of an issue since wrap around grips have been around for ages anyway. FN needs to stop fucking around and update the design again ffs. If the if Argentina can make a goddamn compact HP then FN sure as hell can
