I need some help deciding on a first handgun. Here are a few I've been looking at, but I can't really choose one.

Sig P320 compact
Sig SP2022
CZ P07
CZ P10c
Glock 19
HK VP9

I don't really know if I'd prefer a da/sa or a striker fired handgun since I've never shot a handgun before. I'd prefer something polymer to help keep cost down though.

>>34353585

I don't think I can drop that much on a handgun right now. I'm trying to keep cost under $650 at the very most.

>>34353646
The only things that glock really has going for me is the huge amount of aftermarket parts and the fact that they tend to retain their value since they're so popular. I'm kind of leaning away from glocks since I could get a nicer handgun at the same price rather than investing even more money through aftermarket parts.
>>
>>34353714
You can generally find USPs for around that much and cheaper if you get used.
>>
>>34353759
OK, I'll consider it.
>>
>>34353585
cz the p320 leaves alot to be desired
>>
>>34353585
Your best bet is going to be going to a range and renting what you can. Then meditate on what you feel you want out of a handgun based off that experience. All the firearms you listed are fairly quality so this is really going to come down to personal preference. Also, there are some affordable metal framed guns out there too if you're interested in that sort of thing.

>>34353631
Gross unless you get them for a steal used.
>>
>>34353787
Rent one and try it out, don't buy anything without shooting it first because you can vastly change your opinion.
>>34353797
The USP shits all over any of the gun listed, even if you buy one new at premium.

The FNS is the best poly striker gun imo, consider it.

Striker fire is probably what you'll eventually prefer. Every shot is the same trigger pull rather than a heavy pull then short pulls. Plus no open hole in the back (where the hammer is) to get dust/dirt/pocket lint into.

>>
>>34353585

I recently purchased one of the M&P Shields, just decided on a 9mm for low ammo cost and abundance of access to rounds. Paid $300 for it new (it's around $350-380 retail with a $75 S&W rebate program until next week), it's surprisingly light, and very well balanced. In my opinion, a great entry pistol.

The Glock 19, VP9 and P07 are all very solid choices and you'll be satisfied with any of them. Avoid the others, ESPECIALLY the P320.
>>
>>34355765
why especially P320?
>>
>>34355726
They're very similar. Like, VERY.

I chose HK because it felt better in my hand and I liked the trigger more. Plus the VP9 has side straps you can swap out so since I'm lefty I put large on the left and small on the right side. Makes hitting that mag release easier. I'm not sure if the PPQ has the same thing.

You can't go wrong with the PPQ, though. Walther and HK are my favorite handgun manufactures.

Finger fucked a CZ P10 the other day. Crispness/wall pronouncement is comparable to P320, if not even better. Trigger pull felt lighter than P320. Obviously better than a Glock in terms of wall/crispness. If a decent striker pistol is something you desire, consider the P10C.

T. dude who pent all his dosh on a P226 just to get the crispest trigger he could without getting a 1911 or a Hi Power.

If you have the means, the best thing for you to do is to go to a range that rents out the pistols you're interested in. Put a reasonable number of boxes of ammo through each, and grab whichever you shoot best with or like the most.

Better yet, find friends that have the pistols you're interested. Nothing beats hands on range time. It is like buying a pair of jeans. You don't just order it on the web unless you're retarded or already know what fits you well.

PPQ trigger is lighter and more crisp at the break but besides that they might as well be the same gun. Both have God tier ergos. I chose the PPQ because it was less expensive and I already have several of the hammer fired HKs.
>>34355775
They have more reliability issues than any of the other pistols he listed. Light strikes, frame warping etc. That's the price of extreme modularity though.
Also ignore the bore axis meme, some people just can't shoot and would rather blame their tools.

I have absolutely no time on the P30, but they seem to be very good guns. They use the same mags. I'm looking at a P30L as the next handgun purchase, unless HK releases the VP9L first. The trigger on the VP9 is really what drove me towards it. It is leagues and bounds better than the other stock striker guns on the market. I also like the cocking nubs on the slide, they seem to make it even more foolproof to run the action. The sights on mine are the night sights, made by Meprolight. I put Meprolights on my G17 years back, and they have been great sights.

I've got a Glock 19 for cold weather carry and camping. I like it quite a lot, and I don't understand the shit talking about Glocks. It has never failed to fire, failed to eject, or jammed in any other way. I liked it so much I bought another one for my wife. And my familiarity with the platform led me to buy a Glock 43 for summer carry, which I also like quite a lot.

I have been considering getting a fancier full-sized gun like a CZ 75, a Sig Sauer, or something else that's got that older, all-metal visual appeal. I'm not a Glock die-hard or anything like that, so I'm willing to test out other things.

But if you don't want the Glock, go for the HK VP9 or the CZ P10c. Heck, any of them are fine guns. The Sigs too. They're all good.

Go to a shooting range that rents out pistols and try some out. Figure it out, see what's comfortable, and go from there.

I can tell you now that, while I love my Sig SP2022, the aftermarket for it is almost nonexistent. Want a new pistol magazine? Only people that have 'em at a decent price is SIG, and even then it's 40 fuckin' bucks, not including shipping. Good luck finding holsters that are cost effective outside of select kydex suppliers and aliengear, and if you want to carry with a light, then good luck on that too. Almost no one will make a holster for the 2022 with a light on it outside of very, very few people, and it's mostly kydex and fuckin' SIG brand SIG holsters.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good shooting pistol, it's DA/SA (which I like), and it's comfortable to carry on a daily basis, but if I had to make a choice knowing what I know now, I'd probably have gone with a CZ, a S&W M&P9c, or an FNS-9. Maybe Glock if I couldn't get any of the above.
>>
>>34353646
But that mud test though
>>
>>34356165
If more Glock owners were like you then Glock wouldn't get half the hate it get's now.

Where most of us have a problem is when fanboys don't shut up about how it's the perfect pistol after dumping $100s in modifying it.

I have a G22 and I like it, but I only have one to practice for my department.
>>
Rent. You will buy the wrong one otherwise. You will probably still chnage your mind after a year or two. That's ok, don't sell that first one.

The SP2022 is love but I only use it for range and competition. I shoot it better fast than any of my other guns, including the classic sigs. It's too big for me to carry.
>>
>Sig P320 compact
A decent gun that will see a long and healthy lifespan thanks to the US military. Modular if you're into pissing away money on that.
>Sig SP2022
My personal EDC. I used to carry my P226 anchor sticker edition with real anchor weight functionality but this is so much comfier.
>Glock 19
Can't go wrong here unless the Blockgernomics rub you the wrong way. Very likely to outlive the P320 and has a nearly incomparable aftermarket.
>I don't really know if I'd prefer a da/sa or a striker fired handgun since I've never shot a handgun before.
Shoot a fucking handgun. Preferably each of these three.
>>
>>34353585
P320's are very wide, the triggers are different but good, Sig's from Exeter just smell funny out of the box. They literally smell weird. Every time we take a 250, 320, or 2022 out of the box where I work we joke about the smell.
The 238's and 938's don't have that problem though.
I don't know if this problem is wide spread at all but one of my employer's regular customers bought a 2022 in .40 and he had to completely break the gun down and clean/lube the feed ramp for it to reliably feed AE TSJ ammo, brass Monarch FMJ, and Remington FMJ.

You've clearly never met the Glockfudds. Old competition shooters who swear the only good semi auto is the Glock brand Glock (then they replace 99.9% of the parts with Heckler & Koch priced 3rd party aftermarket). I swear to God one of them said something like

>Glocks are the revolvers of automatics, just that dang reliable.
and I nearly slipped into a coma on the spot.

It's a retarded comparison, but if he's just talking about reliability, he's not really wrong. In fact, most modern 9mm polymer strikers will never ever jam as long as you're using quality ammo (as you would be in a self defense situation where reliability actually matters).

>SIG P320
I own ~30 guns, 20 of them handguns. I shoot my SIG P320 Fullsize RX in Competition. It is my favorite gun and the gun I perform best with even in comparison to my $1500+ 1911's, Beretta M9A3, etc. It's my top recommendation to you. You can find plenty of holsters and aftermarket support. Thousands of rounds, no malfunctions. Not a SIG fanboy, but giving credit where it's due.
>SIG SP2022
I never shot it. I used to shoot a SIG P226 Elite SAO with some aftermarket mods in comp before the P320 RX. Really like the 226 which the SP2022 is based on. But this is a little large for carry. There are better alternatives. You may like the DA/SA trigger pull if you are concerned about negligent discharges as a first time gun owner (reasonable). In that case, safety always first, but remember, the real safety is in your brain, not the gun.
>CZ P07
Have not shot or owned it. Fingered it. Would MUCH rather have the CZ P10 C.
>CZ P10-C
I am currently looking into buying one after some of my buddies let me play with theirs. This is the gun I would buy if you decide against the P320. Best trigger bar none, great size for concealment, love the aggressive stippling, etc. Superior to the Glock 19. Holsters are slightly harder to find, but the P-10C fits in 80% of Glock 19 holsters.
>Glock 19
Get the P-10C if you want this gun. Seriously. But you can't go wrong with this choice if you want to trick out your gun with aftermarket accessories. More holsters than any other gun on the planet exist for the G19. But it's a little out-dated and out-gunned by the competition, IMHO.
>HK VP9
Great gun. Never shot it, know plenty of friends who use theirs in competition. Great trigger, good sites, don't like the position of the magazine release but that's a personal preference thing. I'd still rather have the P-10C.

The Walther PPQ is an exceptional gun as others have mentioned, also give a shout out to the Beretta PX4 Storm series for a DA/SA polymer gun over the SP202

Not really. The usp is basically just a lightened and downsized mk 23 and the p2000/sk is just a lightened and downsized usp. Hk45, P30 and variants are just ergonomically modified p2000s.

If these all count as different guns, then the different generations and model numbers of glocks should too.

They made other shit like the vp 70 and vp9 that's completely different but to reiterate, none of those are good/worth buying.

Only actually interesting guns that company ever made were the p7 and p9 but they're hard to come by of course.

I don't know about having 3 or 4 of the same kind of gun but having a spare isn't a bad idea if the gun is your favorite one that you plan on using for competition or self defense use. Never know when one will need to go back for work, confiscated, lost, or stolen.
>>
>>34363472
Where are 3-4 of each gun?

Where even are 2 of same gun?
>>
>>34364010
After a closer look there are a several that have similarities but I actually don't see two of the same gun, but there are several that have a lot of similarities.

Go for a full-size pistol, like a Glock 17, Beretta 92 (or PX4), or CZ-75. They're better for learning the basics and are a lot more fun to shoot than an LCP II would be.

Plus, a full sized pistol is better for a big guy (uuuu) than a tiny-ass pocket pistol would be.

Can't fault you for that, I really like my PPQ.

Not OP but also looking into buying my first handgun soon. I qualified for my Michigan CPL class today with a G19 and I actually enjoyed shooting it quite a bit, but ive also been eyeballing the PPS M2 and the Shield despite the memes. Should I just go for the G19? The only thing potentially deterring me is the shekels, because anything I save I can spend on ammo to train

G19 is a better all around gun but the PPS and Shield are great single stack carry guns. Shield especially now with the rebated price of $225 is really hard to pass up. That's a BIG difference in price from the Glawck.

People recommend Glock 19s because they are boring, middle of the road, jack of all trades master of none which makes it a safe catch-all. So it's hard to NOT recommend a Glock 19 if you don't particularly know what you need from a pistol other than CCW.

hey bro i have the walther ppq, is it possible to have the slide milled for an RMR, also i can't find "high" or "suppessor" high sights for it assuming i could have it milled for red dot site. can you help me? this is my first gun purchase, i bought it days before they started offering the $100 rebate : (
>>
>>34364201
Where you at in Michigan?
>>
>>34364273
I believe I have seen milled PPQs, because Walther themselves offer the Q5 which is cut for an RMR.

And Dawson Precision definitely makes tall sights, as high as you want, but they're not inexpensive.

Sucks about the timing, I've done that before. :( Have you tried emailing them? They may take pity.

Just got my first hand gun today - a M&P Shield 9mm. Took it to the range and shot it right out of the box. Within the first 50 rounds of shooting the magazine failed to feed a round correctly. I was able to clear it and it was fine the rest of the time - shot a total of 200 rounds today. Do I just need to give it a good clean from factory gunk? Is this normal during a pistol's break in period?

nah i doubt it, too late now anyway. yeah i'm aware of their "match" gun but i want a 4" barrel for EDC. anyway, every place that does milling that i've found so far don't offer it for the walther ppq, they only do like glock and s&w and springfield stuff. i want to know if there is anyone that does it for ppq? also, i have the paddle version because i thought it would be just as good but and it'd be alright but the button is kinda stiff. i think i could really enjoy it if it were easier to press, is it possible to make that happen? is there like a spring or something i could switch out? thanks for your time bro

I don't know milling companies, sorry.

Try pushing the mag release with your index finger alone, or with your thumb and index finger simultaneously, it'll be easier. Wouldn't recommend changing the spring on the magazine release. It shouldn't be difficult to press tho, the lever is much longer than the P99, and the spring is the same part.
>>
>>34365007
so it is possible? there is a spring? i'm going to have to play with that. right now i'd prefer button release but if i can make it smoother i'd prefer this paddle release. also yes i use index finger as my hands are relatively small, or just the shape makes index really the only way and thats fine with me as long as i can make it easier
>>
P320CRX for one real reason. The fire control unit. You can easily build the pistol you want.

Springer offers adapter plates for wtfe rmr you want as well the only caveat is grinding off a lip.

It's ok, sometimes I call my car a bicycle so i can say i rode my bike 20 miles to work.
>>
>>34365068
Sure there's a spring, but the tension is meant to hold the magazine in under recoil and drops. Don't mess with it.

I bought a Sig p320 a few weeks ago. Trigger is the best striker fired trigger I've ever tried.
>>
>>34365248
: ( but i could be faster if it were looser. i would have gotten the button style if i knew it was like this
>>
>>34355898
Dude. Those bullets are facing the wrong way in the magazine. Is that your own gun??
>>
>>34353585
I got a p320 as my first handgun and i love it. But the other ones you listed are great too! Mainly depends though what you see yourself doing with it mostly and if it will be a carry or just a range toy.

>>
>>34353585
I bought a p10c. It's basically a glock 19 but a little bit cheaper. The factory trigger in the p10c is comparable to a 200 dollar glock upgraded trigger. I love it. My only issue was it took about 200 rounds for the grit to work itself out.
>>
>>34368358
To fuck off since you have a better girl now.
>>
>>34353759
Where can I find a USP for that much? Never mind a USP Compact.
>>
>>34353863
I love mine. FDE all the way
>>
>>34355338
The standard p10c trigger is about 4- 4 1/2 pound pull with a super fast reset. It's like an upgraded glock trigger. I love it. Never felt the ppq though.
>>
>>34355784
You have never held one have you?
>>
>>34355901
Save the 300 dollars and go for the vp9. The triggers are better in the vp series and you'll have money left over to get a holster and whatever else
>>
>>34368473
I just got a used .40 USP for like $500
It was on sale and I still got a really great deal
Its even one of the original ones and still in great condition
>>
OP better come back and tell us what he bought, that little fag
>>
>>34358148
Ok different newfag here. Ive seen these too. Why is the Shield shit then?
>>
OP out of the guns listed, I would go with the VP9. I love mine. Idk wtf these kids talking about it being "flimsy" are on about, mine feels perfectly solid and has been great through 2000rds. Shoots like a dream.

If you'll go outside your list, the USP 9 compact is incredible, it shoots like no gun I've ever fired. The recoil impulse is so tame that your sights are back on target before your finger can even reset and pull the trigger again. I hear people bitch about the trigger, but Idk where that comes from, I thought it felt just as good as the P239 Tactical I used to have. It will replace my VP9 as my EDC within a year or so.
>>
>>34368851

he's just being facetious. The shield is a fine choice for concealed carry since it is light, slim, and easy to conceal. However I would not choose it as a first pistol as a compact, double stack pistols like the Glock 19, P320 compact, PPQ, etc. are all more comfortable to grip and shoot. These pistols also have the benefit of being able to pull double duty in terms of concealed carry or home defense.

This gun is absolute trash anon, buy this other gun that no one else has. It is overpriced but if you buy it you won't be a stupid pleb! I'm gonna insert a SIG into my rectum to show how unique and informed of a gun owner I am! Everyone else that buys anything different is retarded.

It's not normal, no. Next time mark the magazine so you can keep an eye on it, and if that particular magazine is problematic, get rid of it and buy new ones.

If it's happening with multiple magazines with any regularity, contact S&W for service.

What is the problem with Gen 4's over Gen 3's? I see that a lot of people favor the 3's over the 4's. I bought a G20 not too long ago for a steal and it's been shooting spicy ammo reliably with no issues, but I'd like to know what to watch out for
