I know British operations are chosen at random by a computer so they meaningless to the place and the type of operation happening.

Why does every operation have a proper name? Why aren't there for example just numbers? Have numbers even ever been used as operation names?

Because all the other operation and contingency plans had really fucking dumb names, several people pitched in alternative names.
