Magpul FDE AK. Is this a good looking gun? I was gonna make my WASR into one of these, the only thing the pic is missing is the cheap plastic FDE magazines I found l for like 6 bucks a pop.

Opinions on Flat Dark Earth in general? And why do people keep saying it doesn't look like an AK anymore?

Neat, I was eyeballing one in a gunshop a few weeks back and asked the guy behind the counter if it was a K-USA AK-9 and he tells me.

"No, it's one of them Chiappas, it's a clone of the scorpion"
And points to a scorpion sitting right next to it.

>Oh no look the Ukrainians are shooting at us!
>declare another ceasefire

Sometimes they'll try and storm a village or parts of a city, get rekked, retreat, and call another ceasefire

I was thinking about getting a C39v2, but there's lots of talk about them wearing out quickly. Hard to complain about 800 for something fitted with all the aftermarket stuff I'd probably put on it. I love the look of the Galil brace.

Hello folks. I'm looking to pick up a VEPR, because I've always wanted one but have been too lazy to actually get one. The recent importation ban has gotten my off my lazy ass to do so. I'm interested in getting one in .308.

>For most AKs you will have the choice of 7.62x39, 5.45x39, or 5.56x39. There are VEPRs available in .308 and 7.62x54r but if you're going to buy one of those you probably already own other AKs

This is from the Buyer's guide, and I do happen to own one other AK, and that's a pre-gone-to-shit WW 74. I'm looking to get a quality, semi-auto full power rifle but don't feel like dropping $3k on a SCAR17. I know .308 VEPRs have decent accuracy between 1-3MOA, but what else can you guys tell me about it? Are they decent enough rifles overall? Worth $800?

I would consider a 54r VEPR, but those are all sold out and I don't feel like paying panic prices to purchase one.

This would mostly be a target rifle, as I don't hunt all too often.
>>
>>34354199

I don't know that there's that much else to say about them. It'll treat you right, other than dinging up your brass on the way out. They're worth the 800 in my book.
I'm more of a fan of rpk furniture and folding stocks myself. But you'll have to decide if that's worth hundreds to you or not.
Tulammo 308 is really cheap and shoots plenty well as far as I'm concerned. So 35c/r ammo after shipping is a nice plus, assuming the new sanctions haven't changed that with panic buyers.

I would definitely put some after marker furniture on it. As for what that would entail remains to be seen.

Something like this seems pretty damn rad without being gaudy tacticool, but some SVD furniture could work too. Or maybe even RPK stuff like you suggested. I'd have to shop around.

Hello all again!

Anon from Georgia here! I commented a weeks back, asking of how to fix underfold to fixed stock convert, and it has worked well. Thanks to all who gave advice! Brownell sent the new coating quickly, he is a good service!

I come today ask about new rifle. I want something in the ak style that is short in .223. I have decided to pick between arsenal and saiga. I can not find similar arsenal rifle on US site, but it is folding stock solid receiver .223, it is the rifle in picture. My other choice is saiga MK-01 in .223.

I look for advice? Anyone have experience? They are both equal price of 1500 or about 620USD

We can't have the Saiga MK-01 rifles in the US so I don't think you will get much feedback there. We can't get that Arsenal rifle either, but we have the SAM7SF which is similar.

The build quality on the Arsenal will probably be better. But really it comes down to whether you want a milled receiver or stamped. Also, the Arsenal folding stock will work better with optics, if you plan to use optics.

Is $1600 too much for an 1988 Izhmash kit on a Childers receiver? A guy near me has one for sale, and pricing it out it's around $1300 to have one built. Is there a secret I'm missing that would make it cheaper or is that just the price of getting a Russian build?

>>34357272
What barrel, and who built it?

The kit itself is around $650 and the cost of getting it built is going to be around $700-$1000 depending on how the builder went about the barrel components, so that's not a bad price if the barrel and build quality is decent

>>
>>34357303
The kit is $650 and Meridian probably charged about $750 to do the build (Mike does the barrel dimples correctly for '88s too). Factor in another $100 or so for the receiver.

It's not a terrible price for what's already gone into it, but the US barrel isn't as good as a combloc one since it's probably not chrome-lined and definitely isn't hammer-forged, and at that price point, unless you *really* want a Russian parts kit build from that year and don't want to piece it together yourself, there's better options for overall quality in that price range and below.
>>
>>34357316
>goes through all the trouble to have an 88 kit built by Meridian
>uses a US barrel
What a waste. I'd pass. If the barrel was a proper combloc barrel that'd be a good deal
>>
>>34357337
Nobody has made a proper US AK barrel to date. Bulgarian and Polish CHF CL barrels are readily available. A US barrel is just someone being really fucking cheap.
>>
>>34357361
>unless you *really* want a Russian parts kit build from that year and don't want to piece it together yourself,
That's kind of where I'm at. Chrome lined doesn't bother me too much because I don't shoot any 7n6, but it would be nicer to have one with a proper barrel.

Would one of the Bulgarian ones from Arsenal be good for a kit build if I did a kit myself? Also where is the $750 number coming from? On his website he says he starts kit builds at $279 with another $99 for a barrel install and head space.
>>
So I like how you can have authentic optics on AK's like obzors and posp's, but what are some good optics that I can put on a yugo NPAP?
>>
>>34357393
It's coming from experience. He build my 1983 kit on a 74U LLC receiver that came in earlier this week. It cost me $637.50 for him to fully demill my parts kit and prep it for install, populate a virgin Bulgarian barrel, install the parts on my receiver, provide a US fire control group, and apply the Moly Resin finish wherever the original finish couldn't be kept (or was unfinished), along with a couple of other minor things I asked him to do, including headspacing and test firing.

AK builders are cheap right up until you ask them to populate a barrel. I can guarantee you that if you called him on Monday and asked him to build an AK from a parts kit in the condition the '83 and '88 kits came in, it would not cost you $379.
>>
>>34357440
What's populating a barrel?
>>
>>34357440
Also, I'm estimating more for an '88 build than an '83 simply because of the dimple work that he'd need to do for a correct appearance on the '88. '83 rifles have pinned components, which are less labor-intensive to install.
>>
>>34357393
Yes, those would be the ones you'd want

That price comes from the dimpled barrel components on late 80s Russian rifles, they're much more labor intensive than normal pinned barrel components and therefor cost more to have built. Chimps and I are having ours built by the same guy and he's charging $850, reading online Meridian charges around $750 (but not a quote directly to me from them), whereas the same guy who will be building mine charges only $350 if I remember for normal pinned components
>>
>>34357454
Populating a barrel means attaching all the things that go onto a normal AK barrel - rear sight block, gas block, front sight block, basically.
>>
>>34357465
>>34357467
Thanks for the help, I thought it was only going to be

>$150 barrel on sale from KVar, normally $250 iirc
>$225 74uLLC receiver
>$60 fancy paint
>$850 build cost
As it sits with those numbers I'm looking at $1935, but that's not including anything I might be forgetting or any unforeseen costs

I also only had to wait about two weeks for my 74uLLC receiver because Chimps hooked me up with one, normally you'd be waiting at least a year for one

83s are harder to come by and will be around a grand (one sold on the Files a few weeks back for like $1200 is something), if you're not dead set on a Russian kit you could always get a Bulgarian kit for only like $400ish

Technically a side rail isn't correct unless you're specifically looking to clone an AK74N or AKS74N which were quite scarce compared to production of normal old 74s. I do not want a side rail on my 88
>>
>>34357487
It's correct for an AK-74N, the models that came as part of a "complex" with a 1PN34 or 1PN58 NV optic, but some Russians threw PGO-7Vs on them as well. It's also specifically the RMP-3 plate you'll need. DFW Collectors Source sells them.

If you're after a more general issue look, the siderail should stay off.
>>
>>34357526
You guys suck. I'm already pricing out shit for an underfolder build I definitely don't need but really fucking want.
>>
>>34357567
Ask Daewoo when he comes around how much his underfolder build ran him
>Polish kit
>new production Polish barrel
>Nodak receiver iirc
>build cost was around $600 iirc
I don't remember his total price but it was somewhere around $1200 to $1400 I think
>>
>>34357619
That's about what I'm guessing it would cost me, plus or minus a few hundred depending on who builds it and what I get done.

I'll be completely honest when I say I really, really don't understand why I want an underfolder. It'll be fucking neato to have a Radom barrel in an old Polish kit build and everything, but in in my mind I know the REAL reason I'm doing it is so I can aloha snackbar old electronics out on private land and then sit at home with a 75rd drum in it with the folder collapsed while I eat cereal and watch netflix.
>>
I've been casually looking at AK's since I almost impulse bought a VEPR the other day. I don't know much about them and the guide didn't have anything to say about this.

Found a local ad for a "1972 Tula AKM." Says it has a Russian marked Nodak receiver and an unfired Romanian barrel. Doesn't say anything about it being built as a parts kit or anything, kinda vague. Is this cool or is this junk?
>>
>>34357672
>sit at home with a 75rd drum in it with the folder collapsed while I eat cereal and watch netflix.
My '83 is largely just going to spend the rest of its at home kicked up against my couch while I play Titanfall, so I understand.

>>34357682
Ask who built the gun. It's definitely a parts kit build; there have never been any Tula AKs imported to the US for commercial sale.
>>
>>34357682
I wouldn't bother unless it was a great deal and you were autistic enough to identify the barrel and build quality by sight
>>
>>34348976
>want an AK
>live in a university apartment
>university rules say that you can have pistols in your apartments, but not rifles (constitutional carry on campus)
>only way to have AK is AK pistol
>need to find a good one

Talk me out of buying this Century Zastava PAP M92 pistol for $599:
https://www.preppergunshop.com/ci-zastava-pap-m92-pistol-7-62x39-w-brace-1-30rd-mag-no-krink-break

If I shouldn't buy that, what pistol should I buy? Or should I get an AK pistol at all?

I think she might be developing dementia or is sick. She's been sleeping all day too, probably a good 22 hours, just getting up to eat/drink/ and poop on the floor ;-;. The only time she'll wake up is right when I go to bed, she'll sniff, pat, head butt, etc for a few minutes then go back to sleep. Fuck my dudes.

Sucks man. My cat lived to about 15 or 16. It was fat. It lived a good life but towards the end it started doing just that. Took it to the vet and it had other problems as well. Major tooth problems which is why is stopped eating.

The problem is that, according to the vet, she's fairly healthy. I'd rather just have her put down before she starts having chronic issues but they wouldn't do that and it'd be weird to ask that.

Seriously check it out: https://www.amazon.com/Purina-Tidy-Cats-BREEZE-Starter/dp/B001411SK0

They are clay pellets that end up trapping the shit and holding the smell in pretty damn well and use a tray with a diaper type lining or the piss. You still have to be a decent human and clean it regularly but say bye bye to clumps of litter everywhere possible. Expect to find pellets around but they are a size that is noticeable and able to be picked up with easy.

>>34351781
GT is among the best ammo to stockpile for this very reason. It's sealed very well and doesn't rust easy. Before I sold my maadi, I had about 2000 rounds of GT that I didn't pressure seal that sat for about a year. The guy I sold it to claimed he didn't have a single failure out of all that ammo.
>>
>>34359767
Yeah, but he didn't have the full kit and it wasn't bought on the open market.

Once RU civilians can buy kits, we'll should see them appearing for a more reasonable price.
