Hey, /k/. I was thinking about buying myself a .22 for plinking and killing various small rodents. I thought pic related looked cool. (ruger 10/22 mannlicher) but does anyone have experience with it? Alternatively, what are some other good .22s?
>>
>>34347754
Forgot to add: nothing more expensive than 240$ or so.
>>
>>34347754

Avoid the Mannlicher because eventually you're gonna wanna put a better barrel on it and that stock is going to hold you back.

Serious recommendation is get a basic wood stock 10/22, some BX25 ruger mags, and a shitload of ammo to plink with. If you wanted you could get a fun optic or a nice set of aperture sights later on.
>>
>>34347800
This. Just get a normal ass 10/22 since you're likely to modify it anyways.
>>
>>34347754
Get a savage mark2 or a cz455 if your willing to spend a little more. If your set on semis go 10/22 or marlin 60

NUMBER ONE RULE ON BUYING A .22lr RIFLE

Buy a 10/22. These threads need to stop. The rest of the .22lr rifles suck
>>
>>34347964
Why do the rest suck? Savage MKIIs are good, CZ455s are awesome, marlin model 60s are on par with a 10/22
>>
>>34347754
My favorite .22 is my Henry levergun

I'd buy a basic bitch 10/22 and just continually upgrade it as you save up money from there OP. As cool as that stock is as you get more money you're eventually going to want modify your gun and end up replacing the stock.

Also allot money right off the bat for new tech sights or an optic right off the bat. The stock irons are terrible.

Pic related is my 10/22 after changing out parts.
>>
>>34347754
Can I make a sub 1 MOA 10/22 or do they sell magazines that are consistent enough for such accuracy?
>>
A question for you guys recommending 10/22s. I know that they are one of the most popular rifles in America, but I have also heard that their design inherently places an upper limit on their mechanical accuracy that isn't just a triviality. Is this true? If it is, what are some non-bespoke .22 LR rifles that have out of the box accuracy that is markedly better than the 10/22?
>>
>>34347800
>Avoid the Mannlicher because eventually you're gonna wanna put a better barrel on it and that stock is going to hold you back.

that stock is so sexy though

I can't give you an honest answer on just how accurate you can make a 10/22 versus other rifles, but pic related is the groupings I'm getting out mine at 60 meters with a bull barrel, stock trigger, and optic.

Honestly I think it'll outshoot most shooters, and for those looking to push the limits you should be looking at something other than .22s.
>>
>>34348025
model 60's are better out of the box than a 10/22 imo
>>
>>34348152
marlin is well-known for their accuracy out of the box

get the 60 over the 795 though (pre-ban if you can for the extra capacity), those magazines are wonky.
>>
>>34348223
>>34348236
Does this apply even to new production Freedom Group Marlins?
>>
>>34348115
sure but the only remaining ruger component will be the magazine
>>34348256
yes the remlin60/795 is still more accurate out of the box than a 10/22
>>
>>34348352
The Ruger magazine is a 3 MOA part though.
>>
>>34348223

Loved my Marlin Model 60.
I'm a big guy IRL, and the carbine style stock on the 10/22 isn't comfortable for me.
I do prefer the 10/22's magazine over the Marlin's tube feed, but eh, whatever.
The Marlin shoots great and is super reliable.
Don't get me wrong, the 10/22 does as well - but I prefer the Marlin, at least out of the box.
>>
>>34348152
The Savage Mark II is significantly more accurate out of the box than the 10/22, particularly the newer ones with the accutrigger.

.22 LR is extremely popular because it's very cheap, and with no meaningful recoil it's a great way to ingrain good shooting habits.

It's mostly ineffective after 100 yards but the round and most popular guns chambered for it are still more accurate than most shooters to that point.
>>
if you can buy an older model gill gun. Those things are great
>>
>>34348152
Also regarding the Savage Mark II, it's bolt action, which plenty of weekend suburban mercenaries swear is going to slow them down and they just need an auto loader.

The Marlin 60s are a tube feed which some don't like. I'm one of them, but they are quite solid rifles. My biggest gripe is they have a fairly cheap look and feel.

The Savage is regularly available for $100-$150 dollars and I bought my Marlin 60 new at a Walmart for I believe $90, so they both have that going for them over the 10/22. Biggest downside is significantly fewer upgrades down the road.

i love mine
>>
>>34347754
Not a rifle, but I got my hands on a Heritage Rough Rider and I love it to pieces. Is loading a single action a pain in the ass? Yes. Makes you appreciate each shot a little more though. The only thing I'd change is I'd pay a bit more for the model with adjustable sights. I like good fixes sights, but mine are pretty bad.

>fixed ~$135
>adjustable ~ $200

I actually have the Manlicher stock version, it's sexy as fuck but this anon>>34347800 is right.

The gun would be more enjoyable to shoot with some aftermarket options.
>>
>>34347754
Just get a 10/22
Think with scope, sling, cleaning kit, Bx25 and like 1000rds. This one came in new at $320

Don't buy Ruger brand BX-25s, buy the High Tower Armory brand 25 rounders. They come with a manual follower so that you can load them faster, and in my opinion, are better than the Ruger brand ones
>>
I have a 10/22, savage mk 2, and marlin 25. If you're hunting you'll want a bolt gun. Better tolerance for lighter loads like CCI quiets.
>>
>>34348152
>>34348183
Purchased my first 10/22 (and had fired most types of rounds but never a .22 somehow)
Pretty much did the same thing at the 50yd range just recently with CCI standard velocity.
>>
Anyone know of any alternate 10 round 10/22 mags that dont sit flush?

Live in a cuckstate and like to have something to grab onto
>>
>>34353152
Savage mk2 is an awesome little 22

Only problem i had so far is one of the mags was defective, bullets would go flying out of the mag
