I don't know if this is an intentional design or not, but it's really fucking annoying.
This part of my dust cover protrudes in such a way that it makes using the charging handle insanely difficult and extremely painful unless I do it very slowly. I can't just pull back on it, I have to go slow and avoid cutting my hand on this jagged piece of metal.
I'm pretty sure that the dude who gave me the gun didn't do this, but if nobody else has the problem I'll assume that's the case. Any other WASR owners care to comment? Couldn't find anything online about it.
Here's a picture from the top to show just how far out it goes compared to the rest of the dust cover
that is 100% normal for ribbed dustcover. dont like it replace it with a smooth one

Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make such a shitty design? And where can I buy a smooth one?
It's an AK just sand the fucked about and re paint.

It's there so the safety doesn't pop over the top cover, which will cause the hammer to drop and if chambered, it will discharge.
If it's too sharp, knock off the edge with a file or round it over with a small ball peen hammer/autobody "spoon".
Above all, git gud.

akfiles. I also vote replace it, itll be like $10-15

It's my dad's old gun he never used, I was gonna do a complete reworking of it with wood furnish, fixing all the nicks shown here >>34344972, and lots of other things
Funny, I told him I was gonna buy a WASR off of Armslist today and he saved me the hassle
>>34345046
Thanks. That makes sense I guess. Rather do this then autistically buy some hundred dollar "Americanized" dust cover
>>34345059
Oh, that's cheap. I'll try flattening it and maybe replace, thx
>>34345062
Smooth dust covers are not "Americanized" they are legitimate soviet design and were used before the and sometimes with AKM rifles.
But seriously, how in the fuck would you manage to cut yourself in actual usage? I have yet to hurt myself (aside from the occasional burning of fingies) with any of my AKs.

>I have yet to hurt myself (aside from the occasional burning of fingies) with any of my AKs
Not even snakebit by the hammer spring?
If your AK hasn't drawn your blood at least once, how does it know it's yours?
>>34345293
>Not even snakebit by the hammer spring?
Pliers and a rubber band my man.
>>34344965
holy shit you're a huge pussy
>>34345293
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH cringe
>>34345293
Why the fuck did you draw on yourself?
>>34345307
I use the cap from the cleaning kit, but I've been "in a hurry" and forgone that more than once.
>>34345343
>implying that's my hand
>>34344965
How big are your sausage fingers that they can get pinched in there pulling the charging handle?
>>34345366
I use the upside down fist, not the "grab between pointer finger/thumb" when racking the charging handle
If I do the finger thumb thing it's not too much of a problem but I prefer my way
>>34345293
I lower the hammer so the springs go on the trigger first then line up the pin, you don't even have to fuck around with it then
>>34345293
>If your AK hasn't drawn your blood at least once, how does it know it's yours?

I'm sorry that my Kalash isn't a tempermental bitch and loves me affectionately.
The only time I got hurt using my saiga 7.62: scraping my trigger finger with my left hand while charging from underneath.
Messing with the safety, I've pinched my hand but not bad enough to bleed.
