How comes a band of impoverished mountain peasants rebels against their noble lords and succeed?
Like the Swiss started out as a bunch of disgruntled cowboys and next you know is they massacred knight armies left and right. How the fuck did a peasants militia waste entire imperial armies with minimal casualties?

the helvetian/swiss were never peasents without means
swiss pikemen were at the cutting edge of 15th century warfare
>>34341602
>swiss were never peasents without means
they started out with a couple high mountain valleys and not a single town. they where as peasant as it can get.
And they took on mighty Habsburg.
>>34341617
but they had ties too the holy roman emperor and the papacy. the austrians had to rush in and force a quick surrender if they wanted to vassalize helvetia. if they had time too build seige weapons and place archers than the results would have been different. time wasn't on the hapsburgs side.
Anyone know the battle of roncevaux pass? Charlemagne lost his entire knightly vanguard to a bunch of pissed off Basque hill people
>>34341731
>but they had ties too the holy roman emperor
You mean like Albrecht I, of the house HABSBURG?
Not very likely.
>if they had time too build seige weapons
for doing fucking what? the Swiss at the time didn't have a single castle or fortified town. You don't exactly need a Trebuchet to siege a mudhut.
>How the fuck did a peasants militia waste entire imperial armies with minimal casualties?
Mountains fuck shit up for armies and non-locals, this isn't a new discovery.
Vietnamese managed to beat both the Mongols and the Chinese because of mountains.
Afghans beat all kinds of people because of mountains, and the Taliban was able to not only survive American intervention, but even grow in number because of those mountains.
It took well over fifty years for the Russian Empire to fully conquer the Caucasus Mountains, and they've been getting fucked ever since.
Many Christian communities and other religious minorities in the Middle East were able to thrive in a hostile neighbourhood because of mountains.
Nepal managed to defend itself from invasion from both the British Empire and Qing dynasty China because of mountains.
Mountains make invasion hard, and they breed hardy people.
Want to talk about a serious battle, talk about this one.

the hous of luxembourg were the HREs during the swiss confederacy
the swiss towns were positioned on trade route redoubts and had walls. although the swiss weren't going to lose their cities to a seige if the austrians had time to build ballistae and get access to archery platforms on the potential battlefield like morten than the switzers would have been fucked
>>34341930
Ja, but the Austrians where not exactly unexperienced with mountains, plus the Swiss took the lowland turf and most battles where on flat ground.

>the hous of luxembourg were the HREs during the swiss confederacy
No. pic related.
>the swiss towns were positioned on trade route redoubts and had walls. although the swiss weren't going to lose their cities to a seige if the austrians had time to build ballistae and get access to archery platforms on the potential battlefield like morten than the switzers would have been fucked
Name one (1) Swiss town at year 1300.
>protip, you cant
Also, the Austrians where (minor) Swiss allies at the battle of Morat, their enemy was the Burgundians, they had Welsh archers and the most modern artillery of all Europe.

Usually peasant revolts didn't work and the leaders got hanged a lot of the time, though sometimes not.
>>34342136
>and the leaders got hanged
If they where very lucky that is. Normally things where a little more painful than that.
>this kills the knight
>>34341535
If I had to guess it has more to do with the fact that big ass pole arms don't give a fuck about much of anything

Did those guys do drugs before battle?

I remember it being the Rearguard, but your point is valid.
