There are more moving parts, and older ones don't have as strong an action, which is why the Winchester 1895 would beat itself to death after a few thousand rounds of .30-06 or 7.62x54r. The BLR and Long Ranger are basically straight pull hammer fired bolt guns with gearboxes connecting the bolt to the lever. The old-fashioned barrel-gripping handguard didn't do any accuracy favors either, but the Long Ranger is mostly free-floated.
>>
>>34341974
It's legally a pistol since no stock, so no.
>>
The lever-action probably has the lowest social profile of any gun, which gives it a unique advantage. It's the only rifle I own that I don't bother hiding in a case when I bring it to my car. I've had people who know a little bit about guns think mine was just a BB gun. A low social profile can make you less of a target. Also, if I'm in court facing a jury of noguns, I'd prefer them looking at a levergun than some tacticool AR.

All bullshit. The only problems that arose are in the 30-06 model when used with high power civilian ammo (in excess of 55kpsi). And even then all it lead to was slightly excessive headspace. Don't use near magnum loads and they're fine.

im confused, why wouldn't it load? most lever actions tubular magazines are spring loaded, so why doesnt it load? It would certainly still eject if a round was in the chamber though, right?

>>34339743
The Henry Long Ranger is available in .223, .308 and .243, it takes 4rd detachable box magazines, has a rotating radial-lugged bolt that locks into the barrel extension (so with it's aluminum receiver, it's a lot like an AR15), and the barrel is 100% free floated.

It's at $800 on average and can easily shoot 1 MOA with little effort.
It is one of the most smartly designed lever-action rifles ever designed, with the sleek looks to match, and I say this as someone who just hates the typical Henry front tube loading and lack of a real loading gate.

Most people get a levergun to shoot heavy bullets, but if you like leverguns, and you want something with range and precision, this rifle will absolutely deliver.

>>34340396
A lot of lever action rifles, including a lot of what Henry makes besides the Long Ranger, has basically the same kind of action and lockup as rifles from 100 years ago, they're largely the same, it doesn't have the same repeatably consistent lockup as a rotating bolt, and many have bands attaching the barrel to a magazine tube, which affects barrel harmonics.

Granted, the average rifle of it's kind is chambered for like .45-70 or a Magnum revolver cartridge, meant to lob a heavy and rounded projectile at like 200-300yds or so at best, so it's kind of ok that it'll only shoot 3MOA at the best.
>>
>>34343235
I'm tempted to get a Long Ranger in .308 to go with my Vepr if I want something lighter for hunting. I love my Marlin but .44mag is kind of a joke past a hundred yards in the brush.

"Obsolete"

Why do autistic fags like you use this word where it doesn't apply?

A Laptop from 1995 is obsolete as it can't run modern programs.

A lever action rifle in .45/70 or .44 magnum can still fire those rounds effectively and take down any animal in the Americas.
>>
>>34343644
you can still use a laptop from 1995 too if that's what you enjoy. it's still obsolete. just like lever and bolt actions are obsolete but still functional.

>>
>>34343938
Holy shit, Anon. How fucking dumb can you-
Wait. That would totally be the shit
>>
>>34343938
Honestly for the effort involved in making one that's ergonomically viable you might just as well make a bullpup pump-action rifle, which probably could be pretty cool, grip in the middle, pump-slide on the front, and magwell in the rear.
>>
>>34339717
Can we all agree that open bolt fa guns are the simplest, most reliable, and overall best design? Can we all agree that literally any other action is outdated, overcomplicated, and just plain dumb by comparison?
>>
>>34339717
Fudds seem to think they are as far as the repeating arm should have advanced
semi auto or more than 7 centre fire rounds is a step too far

but my actual problem with lever action is how finicky the levers are
too fast and they lock up too slow and youve not put in enough force to cycle them
but that's just having to git good at moving the lever at the exact speed and force required
not so many problems with bolt action or falling or Falling block action
I like lever action but find it annoying to use
for now at lest
>>
>>34340491
>Yes. Bolt actions are simpler, stronger, and more accurate than any others.

>>34343235

>>
>>34341244

>>34343174
>Also, if I'm in court facing a jury of noguns, I'd prefer them looking at a levergun than some tacticool AR.
Why? The jury is going to apply the relevant law regardless of what gun you have. If you had the right to shoot, it won't matter if you shot with a lever action, bolt action, gas operated action, or a bow and arrow.
>>34343201
Which is why bolt actions are ideally suited for the purpose.
>>34343644
Because we have much better cartridges now, and have for more than a century. You can hunt with a 44 magnum carbine, but there's a reason why very few people do. High velocity rifle rounds are simply better.
>>34344738
They are very inaccurate.
>>34344785
Lever actions coexisted with bolts for about 40 years. Then when smokeless powder started making cartridges hotter and hotter, everyone switched to bolts.
>>
>>34344874

> anything that isn't absolutely the bear is obsolete

What's your autism therapist's name?
>>
>>34344874
>You can hunt with a 44 magnum carbine, but there's a reason why very few people do.
Yeah, cheap NATO FMJ that makes .223 and .308 more economical to practice with.
>>
>>34344874
>The jury is going to apply the relevant law regardless of what gun you have. If you had the right to shoot, it won't matter if you shot with a lever action, bolt action, gas operated action, or a bow and arrow.
lma if you actually think this

the jury system is the greatest example of democracy in action, which means that any housewife who thinks your rifle is scary has the opportunity to ignore any legal precedent to find you guilty for any reason
>>
>>34344743
I don't think you can call an automatic a repeater though.

a difference in language ?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeating_rifle#Automatic_mechanisms
its more in reference the automation of cycling the action though more than one shot
the power source for feeding cocking and ejection is not really covered in if its a repeating arm or not

Obselecence is their way of justifying their min-maxing. Any gun/action/caliber that they view as suboptimal or not on the cutting edge is "obsolete". Years ago people had been saying DI ARs and 5.56 were obsolete when piston ARs and 6.8 SPC hit the market.
>>
>>34339717
yes, absolutely...

that doesn't stop me from looking at levergun mechanisms the way captain picard looks at ships of the line, though.
>>
>>34343938
how the fuck are you going to make that action work?
>>
>>34346603
Option one
On the down stroke the barrel goes forward on the read stroke it goes back
Option two
A gear system on the lever that dives a linkage back moving the bolt
Option three
A more complex linkage to cause the bolt to turn a bit before coming back by using a lug into the carrier to cause it to turn
>>
>>34346660
>A gear system on the lever that dives a linkage back moving the bolt

This makes sense, actually.
>>
>>34346684
That's how leverguns already work though, at least the BLR and Long Ranger.
>>
>>34347574
Modern ones like the BLR and HLR do, oldschool ones actually just have a pivoting setup.

>>

Browning's potato digger anyone?
>>
>>34347867
That was more like a lever working as a gas-piston to make a machinegun.

A fully automatic lever action if you will.
>>
>>34348027
A flappy action.
>>
>>34343216
Because there is nothing keeping the bullet in place when the bolt is fully retracted and trying to push the bullet into the breach. It is liable to fall out on its own accord. Unlike most modern bolt actions or semi auto rifles who have magazine fed ammo, the springs and feed lips keep the bullet in place pretty much until the round is some what in the chamber.
>>
>>34348284
But not flapper locked.
>>
So aside from gate memes, is a Henry in 357 OK as a first levergun?
>>
>>34348337
It'll work absolutely fine.
The loading gate is just a make it or break it thing to a lot of people, some feel it's a must have (myself included), some feel it doesn't matter.
>>
So, what would be a good lever action pistol, since there's one ITT. Is that Rossi ranch hand any good? Also, what caliber should I get one in?
>>
>>34339717
I would say yes it is a dated action but culturally they are very central to American gun culture. Nothing says Merica like Winchester 94 chambered in 30-30 and a dead dear on the hood of my truck.
>>
>>34348404
Rossi Ranch Hand is pretty much the only Mare's Leg pistol in production. Gun is fine. .45LC is the classic but expensive unless you reload.

I don't have any dye, or experience for that matter, with reloading. I might just buy one for .38 instead. For 350 bucks, you really can't beat that.

>>

Yes, a jury that could include women, blacks, homos, libtards, juanita's abuela, maybe a Jew, will totally make no distinction between a fudd gun and your ultratactical ar with a 60 round mag and a punisher decal on it when you kill an "unarmed child" with it.

I have a .44mag lever gun for a brush rifle. It's faster than a bolt because of the short action and a whole lot smaller and handier than a .308 autoloader.
