Have a shitty picture of my 91/30 and M39, both bought from Sweaty Ben 10 years apart.
RIA started today, anyone have bids in? I have 16 bids but I'm betting I'm going to lose all of them.
How much is early 1950s-production Yugo surplus 8mm worth? The ammo is still in the original 15-round boxes, but the rounds I've seen are pretty clean.
Posting this again, tl;dr version
Is a Remington Model 10A for $150 a good deal? I watched that C&Rsenal video one anon gave me. I want her now but I want to make sure it's a good price
>>34339677
Yes
I saw a Gew. 88 today with literally no markings on the receiver. No serials, no proofs, no markings at all. Didn't even see a Gew. 88 marking on the side. How far did some countries go when sanitizing rifles of markings?

There is literally no english anywhere on the boxes. Im guessing theyre probably salted.
Good deal? Yes or no?
>>34341399
It looks either Belgian or Turkish. Leaning towards Turkish...
>>34341713
If you're a Leaf that's an ok deal, I paid $380 for mine 6 months ago but that's because the stupid dealer thought it was Russian. You could sell that on CGN for at least $600 if the condition is actually mint.
You may want to buy it anyway as those are the absolute best finished Mosins.
>>34341740
Is it really. I thought that was high.. i didnt get to look at that the bore, but i can assure you the rest of the rifle looked like i literally picked it up the line its so nice
>>34341740
>>34341772
Sorry theyre sideways
>>34341784
>>34341796
I mean if you wanted one anyway then that price isn't terrible. If you want to buy it for resale then no that's not a great deal. If it's a 1951 then I'd pick it up regardless, those are the rarest year of production and any price under $600 for one is good.
>>34341890
Common year as far as i know. I feel like its been in the store for a long time, i might go in and offer him $375 cash and see if hell sell it. He also had an sks for like $800
>>34339398
Generally somewhere around ~50 cents a round. I've seen it go for 45-55 most of the time. More or less all surplus 8mm is around that price now.
>>34341972
Sounds like a plan. You can't be in Canada with an SKS priced that high... wtf is he thinking? It must be on consignment or something.
Anyone who pays $800 for an SKS that isn't North Korean or a Nam bringback is heavily retarded. ARs are under $700 now, there's no reason for an SKS unless it's under $350 or you have cucked laws.
>t.leaf
>>34341713
No, unless the bolt is matching

>>34342200
Good. More for me.
>>34342024
Exacto! Its a consignment shop hole in the wall. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if i bought the rifle and the just handed it to me and said good day. I usually buy 5.56 there because the guy sells it for like 26 cents a round. He also sells Chilean and Peruvian mausers at like 400-500 burgerbux and type 99s that are so rusted you cant move the bolt for 200-300.
He also has a mossberg model 50 with target sights that looks like a lee enfield for $300. I know nothing of these and was wondering if thats high too?
>>34342110

>>34342518

Never had any from that particular manufacturer. I did shoot up a couple hundred rounds of G&B-made 1943-dated Mk.VII with no hangfires, but a few split cases.
Just follow standard safety procedures and hangfires are unlikely to harm you. Nice smelly, Anon.

It's a Model 1910 commercial military rifle. It has German commercial firing proofs on it, meaning it was not made for a specific national contract but is an "off-the-shelf" example which might be sold to anyone, government or private individual, who wanted a Mauser military rifle quick.
As >>34346786 mentioned, Costa Rica contracted for several thousand of these (they have a Costa Rican crest), and Serbia also adopted the Model 1910 (again, with a Serbian crest on the receiver ring). I have anecdotal evidence that other countries in Central/South America purchased M1910s, but without digging into the actual Mauser Werke records (most of which were destroyed in WW2) it would be impossible to trace its end-user if the rifle itself has no unique markings.
What does he want for it?

I have a 100 year old Krag Jorgensen where the blackening on the front sight has been brushed down to blank metal, making it a pain to use the iron sights. Anyone got some DIY tips on how to blacken it again using basic home products?

Not being sarcastic, might have actually fucked up. I highly doubt it's shooter grade and matching, my original bid was way lower but I got worked up and lost my brain when someone else started to outbid me. I feel so stupid.
>>34339333
So when reassembling my mosin after removing all the the cosmoline, I put the recoil lug in at an angle, which made the barrel bands hard as Hell to put on. After realizing my mistake I had already scratched up the finish on the forend. (Pic related) how should I best repair my mistake?
>>34351383
Sure can you post some nice close ups especially receiver/crest?

Yea now it makes sense. Look anon just pass the buck to someone else. If I had read that I would have bid a max $80, fuck him and his $350 of parts
>>34351484
Why the fuck would you ever remove a recoil lug? In fact no milsurp rifle should ever have its recoil lug taken out. Once seated and set it stays there forever. Then again it's mosin so who cares
>>34351531
Removing 100 percent of cosmoline

>>34351618
FN of Belgium had tooling and equipment for manufacturing K98s. Post ww2 they received a large contract to equip Colombian military with a bolt action rifle, so naturally they agreed upon tried and true Mauser. Interestingly it was chambered in .30-06 due to ththe fact that USA was equipping them with ammo at the time and it should have a notch in the receiver to use 1903 stripper clips. If your rifle is all matching then it spent its life in Colombia most likely. They are one of the best mausers ever made right up there with swedes and Germans. You will enjoy it and don't worry about the price tag
>>34350628
Also surp.
>>34351707

>>34351665

>>34351548
Lol having any play in recoil lug will fuck up any remnant of accuracy. Good job on doing one thing you are never suppose to do on a fucking rifle. Lugs are set in wood removing them fucks stock and the lug, it's never the same afterwards
>>34351100
If we're talking strictly monetary value you fucked up big time. The Mas is at least a 350 gun now and climbing. Whereas you overpaid a little on the Mauser.
But that's just speaking in terms of money. Ultimately what interests you more is the only thing that matters. And the FN Mausers are very nice.
>>34339333

FN Model 1930 carbine, Colombian contract, originally in caliber 7x57mm Mauser. I think I see a "Perron" firing proof on the left of the receiver ring, which would make this a pre-WW2 example. In the 1950s Colombia began to receive surplus US military equipment and converted many of their older Mauser models to .30-'06 to share ammo. I don't think you overpaid; the FN carbines are much less-common than the short-rifles, and being in .30-'06 is a big plus if you want a fun little shooter.
FN had been manufacturing various Mauser models since 1890; first as a part of the Loewe arms conglomeration, and after WW1 they cast off their German owner and along with CZ-Brno filled in the huge manufacturing gap left by the Versailles Treaty cutting Germany out of the military arms market. They were producing M1930 short rifles and carbines on contract for Colombia before and after WW2.
>>34351755
I find pre-WW2 Lithgow rifles to be much less-common compared to their younger siblings. If it hasn't been molested by Bubba I think that's a fair price.
>>34351484
You put the recoil lug at an angle? Ok someone already sperged out about it(rightfully so) so let me briefly tell you what you've done here.
Recoil lug is set in the stock when a rifle is born. Over the years lug sets into the stock and becomes integral part of it. YOU NEVER remove it out. It wasn't meant to be removed out I don't care what anyone tells you. You rather replace the stock before messing with the lug,
You not only took it out but you put it at an angle creating a stress point in the stock that exerts unequal pressure on the barrel as a result. That rifle is shot
>>34351702
Thank you anon. Thank you so very much! All numbers are matching and wood/bore are in fantasic condition.
>>34351733
Then am I going to have to get a new stock?
>>34351799
It has not. Everything is right as it should be. Few dings in the stock, but otherwise looks good. The bore is immaculate. Missing the magazine cut off, but thats a fairly cheap part to replace.
>>34351839
>Missing the magazine cut off
Most likely intentional. They often deliberately left the cut off off, even though the kept the slot for it. It's one of those herpes features (it keeps coming back).
>>34351445
>will not accept C&R license to ship to
>will not ship a C&R gun to a C&R holder
What a faggot.
Norinco sks with matching parts and it doesn't look used.
How much are they worth?
>>34351826
Not yet. Shoot the bitch and let the lug settle in again. You may want to epoxy inside the lug opening and jam that lug in the way it was to let it settle and solidify. This will most likely be enough but again don't ever take a lug out from another rifle .
FYI some surp shooters took the lug out and then simply coated it in epoxy around it and let it settle in the stock so that's tried and true method

So the guy had it tagged as a Czech M24/47, I talked to him about it and figured it was a Vz. 24, but I noticed just now that it actually has M24/47 on the side of the receiver.
So now I need to figure it out. This is a pic of the crest, is it a Yugo M24/47? Or did the Czechs make an M24/47 as well?
>>34352125
>>34353052
That's a Yugoslavian M24/47 (though bayonet looks like a Vz.24 bayonet). The M24/47 is a Commie-rebuilt FN Model 1924 short rifle, which the Kingdom of Yugoslavia produced under license from 1928-1941. K. of Yugoslavia also puchased 92,000 Vz.24 rifles before WW2 began, but they are standard-length M98 actions and so their major parts (like stocks, barrels, etc.) are not inter-changeable with the FN M24. The Vz.24s that the Yugo Commies re-built were designated M24/52C.
>>34352748
Yeah i've figured, but the differences in prices is laughable. You guys wouldn't pay over 1k buck skins for an AR, whereas the cheapest ones here go for 1,5k at least. >>34353144
>Does $200 for a generic 1943 91/30 sound normal nowadays or still too high?
I bet you'll find somebody to pay that F2F, now that online retailers are pushing $300.
>>34353108
The bayonet is a Vz. 24, I bought it separately from the rifle.
Thanks for the info! That's actually good as a M24/47 was higher on my list than a Vz. 24.
>>34353144
Mosins are going for $300 now. $300 face to face, 200+ online, adding in shipping and FFL makes it close to $300. You can easily get that much for them.
I'd love the Imperial one or the Tula, but I shouldn't be buying any 91/30s ATM.

Oh neat, I have one of those too.

Neat.
It's weird to think they were $80-120 only 4-5 years ago.
>>34353188
Any clue what the other two would go for FTF?
>>34353238
Yeah. They might sit a while at $300 though, if you want them to move you'll wanna put them at like $250.
So many guns to buy, so little money, a hex Tula with Imperial markings would be breddy gud.

can anyone tell me about this Berthier I got at the gun show? what do these markings mean?
>non matching obviously
>MA S 1916 on the other side
>5rd mag
>rifle length
>saddle ring
>pretty decent shape, some surface rust and pitting
>>34353927
That auction is still at a pretty good price. Hope you get it.
>>34354232
it was owned by the number one faggot from the nation of faggots and was passed down to his heir.
>>34354336
I do too.
>>34354232
It's a Mousqueton de Artillerie Modèle 1892 Modifié 1916 by St. Etienne arsenal. It probably wasn't made that way as the 5 round magazine wasn't fully developed yet. It was most likely made as a Mousqueton de Artillerie Modèle 1892 and converted post war.
>saddle ring
What do you mean by this?
Is the barrel and receiver N marked? Pic related.
>>34354794
I see, it has no N. But I believe the receiver is a 1907-15 one. And by saddle ring, I mean the front sling swivel was replaced by a big ol loop
>>34354961
Oh, is it a long rifle?
Almost all Berthiers use the sling ring on the left side.
So, would I make more money walking around a gunshow with my 91/30 or just accepting a dude off facebook's $230?
>>34339333
Im sitting out RIA this go around. The regional auctions they do bring out all the retards that overpay for shit.
>>34351400
Yes. Hard to find a more pleasant shooter for $300
>>34353843
>>34354993
Yep, long rifle. Do you need the N stamp to fire modern loads?
>>34355209
No, you only need it to shoot surplus, should you manage to find any.
>>34355209
>Yep, long rifle.
Then it's a Fusil de Infanterie Modèle 1907-1915 Modifié 1916.
>Do you need the N stamp to fire modern loads?
No. The N stamp just means the chamber was opened up to allow safe firing of the M1932N cartridge. It's actually better for the brass if you're a reloading as it doesn't stretch as much.
If you find any sort of French surplus, you can't safely fire it as nearly all of it was from Hotchkiss strips like these and they're all the 1932N cartridge.
I have question for you anons
I went firing with my nugget for the first time a week ago, and came back and gave it a through cleaning. I just decided to go fondle it today when i noticed that it started to have rust on the bolt. I took the bolt apart and checked the firing pin and spring, and both have no rust, so it seems like its mostly superficial. My question is what can i do to get rid of this rust?
>>34355376
Heres another picture of some more rust
>>34355376
>>34355382
Did you leave it outside in the rain for a few days before picking it up again?

>>34339702
Probably a Hanyang ripoff.
They made some for a while and I've never seen their receiver markings.
>>34353343
I have the bottom, I specifically ordered a type 38 repro rod. I couldn't even get them in Canada so I used a cross border shipping company for it.
>>34355415
I'm astonished by your ability to have things rust at a pace never before seen.
Soak it in white vinegar, scrub it with copper wool or a tooth brush, and then oil it
>>34355508
Thanks anon
>>34355499
Then there may be something stuck in the cleaning rod channel.
Does the SA stamp add to the value at all?
>>34355573
Depends on the gun, but for most guns it actually decreases the value.
>>34355573
it actually stands for Stupid Ass
>>34355604
How so?
I thought the finnish capture part would add like $20-50 in value to a 91/30.
>>34355626
:(
>>34355636
As I said, depends on the gun. It might add a very slight premium to a M91/30, but if it's a "recapture" it should be suspect as the stamps are available. Even then, an original matching M91/30, bit Finnish captured is worth a hell of a lot less than one that doesn't have anything Finnish added including the SA, 41, D marks.
Got my vkt from classic today
>>34355668
How would one know if it was a "recapture"?
SA for stupid ass
>>34355668
>Even then, an original matching M91/30, bit Finnish captured is worth a hell of a lot less than one that doesn't have anything Finnish added including the SA, 41, D marks.
So you're saying that a matching 91/30 is worth more than a matching 91/30 with a finnish stamp?
I'm a bit confused.
>>34355703
the pawn shop I had it shipped to was selling 2 91/30s for $279 each
>mfw I paid less than that for this Finn
they also had a Winchester m1 Carbine for $799 and a TTC for $269

>>34355739
Yes, though good luck finding any right now. Been sold out everywhere for over a year.
>>34355807
Do they only make a small amount every couple of years?
>>34355705
No, I'm saying ORIGINAL matching rifles are worth more without the SA. Not your typical refurb.
>>34355739
Yes.
>>34355826
It used to be one big batch yearly, and was supposed to be in around mid may this year. But now I have no idea. Their cases are still widely available though, so reloading is in play.

Daily reminder K98 is best 98
>>34356676
>>34356676
Which K98?
>>34355090
Either way you'll probably get about the same price.
>>34355166
I ended up cancelling my bids because they were all outbid earlier and I decided to go to the gun show instead.
>>34355573
Personally I would pay a bit more for one like that. I like the added history of a gun that changed sides.
>>34339333
I have an old SMLE no.4 mk.1 that was was sporterized and I would like to restore it, but the barrel seems to have been cut back behind the bayonet lugs and there is no front sight. Is it even possible to restore?
>>34356695
German obviously. All the others are just pretending to be K98s
>>34356835
I think he means between A, AZ, and K, in which case AZ is clearly best
>>34356850
k is clearly the superior choice
>the entire staff of the people who import PPU ammo is only 8 people
I guess I shouldn't complain about spotty availability
>>34356814
When the barrel has been cut it's usually too far gone to restore. Best to just use it as a hunting rifle or plinker.
>>34356941
that sucks, but I don't have much problem with it being for hunting or plinking except I just don't like the way the stock fits on the barrel and the way my father and I jammed a front sight onto the front end of the barrel
>>34356969
Best part is since it is already sporterized you can do whatever to it that you want to improve it. Might be a fun project.
>>34356989
I suppose so
>>34356989
>>34357004
I know that it had to have been sporterized after the war but my father is convinced that it was made to be that way during the war for soldiers who would have been in close quarters
>>34357013
Yea, definitely after. I had a guy try to sell me a GEW 98 that was imported from Spain in the 50's or 60's that the importer cut down into a Mannlicher style rifle. Tried to tell me "soldiers would do that because they were too long for the trenches."
>>34356446
I want a No1 so fucking bad.
>>34356676
Wrong.
>>34356850
This guy gets it.
>>34355668
If you are trying to say a non refurbished 91/30 is worth more, then yes. Otherwise you are wrong.
>>34357297
Not him, but if someone is selling a normal refurb 91/30 for $250 then could another person expect to ask $300 for an SA stamped one?
>>34357310
>then could another person expect to ask $300 for an SA stamped one?
Any refurb M91/30 with an [SA] stamp should be viewed with suspicion these days. There's a lot of new-made [SA] stamping dies out there, and a couple years ago a guy in, I think, North Carolina, was caught selling refurb M91/30s he had stamped with the [SA]. There are legit Finn-captured-Russian-re-captured M91/30s out there (there are also Finn-made M91/30s (m/30) that were captured and refurbished by the Russians just like any of their M91/30s), and sorting out the legit ones from the fakes takes detective work.
>>34357128
my friend scored a No1 Mk1 but I trumped him with the Metford

Yea the "Mosin Corner" not to be confused with the "Mosin Crate" who is a pretty cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything
>>34357438
I saw a Lee-Metford today, it was sporterized.
>>34343747

No
>>34357418
It's not that hard to tell. [SA] stamped 91/30s are usually not refurbs and look worn. If it looks too good to be true it probably is.
>>34357447
Queen Victoria would not be amused.
sks or nagant for first slavshit?
>>34358238

are k31's worth $450 these days?
some guy on armslist is listing one not too far from me for that
>>34359089
God i hope not
>>34358238
SKS has a lighter round, a bit more comfortable in terms of ergonomics, semi auto is always a plus but it's more difficult to clean.
The Mosin is a helluva lot of fun but is a little stale, it's a pretty meh bolt action compared to others and often can have the bolt stick when casings expand after firing but it's easy to clean and cheap.
>>34358238
Nagant. Revolvers are fun.
What is a reasonable price for a Type 99 in pretty good condition? The metal is not pitted or rusted and appears to have original finish, the wood looks unmolested, antiaircraft sights, nice chrysanthemum, smooth action, and a clean bore with good rifling? No monopod or cover. I've been looking on GB but it's hard to get a good gauge because these things are pretty varied. They want $500 for it, and I want a Jap gun to shoot more so than collect (but not "last ditch").
Did I fuck up?
>buy Yugo Mauser for cheap
>it's COVERED in cosmoline
>do the trashbag method to get rid of it
>wipe down stock
>it looks like pic related now
Is this normal? From all the pictures I've seen, Yugo Mausers are supposed to be red or tan, not an odd mottled mixture of the two.
>>34359361
>>34359361
Probably a replacement hand guard
>>34359296
That's not bad of a price, see if you can get them down a bit. Make sure the bolt matches as well, since I've heard (on the type 38 at least) that a mismatched bolt really brings down the smoothness of the action.
>>34359361
>>34359374
You probably just don't have all the cosmoline out, however it's not that uncommon to have stocks with different hues in the finish. That reddish/brown color comes from the oil oxidizing as it ages; a stock covered in grease won't oxidize as quickly.
its fucking cosmoline
use hot water. people keep doing goofy shit with it. Some fucker put his nugget in the oven last week
>>34359391
The stock itself has some odd stripes going on though. Like half of it is red, while other stripes are brown.
I just want to make sure I didn't damage it somehow.
>>34359407
>nugget in the oven
It's the wrong kind of nugget for that though.
Gewehr 98 with double stampings representin'!
I walked into my (fudd) lgs and the owner showed me a nugget he traded for earlier in the day. He wants to get rid of it and is asking $100, as far as he and I can tell its in good order and is working. Is it worth it? I'm tempted.
>>34359296
Non-matching With no monopod or dust cover is about $350. Unless it's a rare arsenal or something.
Anybody know where to get new 8 mm lebel brass? I've looked everywhere I can think of and all I can find is some range brass at over a $1/round on gunbroker. And I'm trying to avoid using range brass just yet
>>34359676
For one bill yeahs it's still worth it as long as it's not bubba'd

>>34359983
that's actually the listed price
I checked off my Italian box at the fun show today for $245, it's Finn-marked.
>>34359089
Yes. And they're probably going to go up a bit more.
>>34358238
If you're short on practical rifles the SKS is more practical, if not the Mosin is cheaper.
>>34359676
They're running $300 these days, so yes, it's VERY worth it, you could flip it in a couple days on Armslist for $200.
>>34359957
I agree with the other guy, $500 would be a decent price for that.
Saw this at the fun show too. Pic of the description next.

A damn shame. At least that one can easily be restored with a foreend and new handguard and an early Type 99 bayonet lug. That's still a killer price for one of those.
Your rifle isn't listed in the Type 99 Naval Special book. 1072, 1092, 1094 and 1095 are though.
>>34360007

>>34360571
The new edition of the book came out about a week after I got it. I bought the bayonet lug, I'm still looking for the wood.
>>34360695
Yeah, I have the second edition of the book. Any Type 99 wood will work, but cut the forend off and splice it onto the original under the rear band. There may be repro foreends already out there for this purpose.
>>34358238
Depends. Are you a leaf?
>>34360691
41 swiss must be non existant if you need to use 8 lebel
