it seems like they shellacked it, painted it, refinished it, and sanded it all in one go and at the same time. The shop I got it at had a bunch of them all with the same sort of stock coloration - must have been from a particular weird batch in China. 1955 date code, if you were wondering.


Oh, and some random dude named Kajire engraved his name on the stock. I can get a photo of it if you want. Makes me think that this was a Balkan war mosin. Those usually have stocks beat up w/ engravings. Just speculation though.
