What kind of gear should I use to be a proper stalker? I already have a gp5 gas mask and flecktarn jacket

Slav-tier weapon, a backpack, and a decent fixed knife and you're firmly in the hobo-stage.

To get to the real S.T.A.L.K.E.R. tier you'll want a slightly higher tier gas mask (modern russian military/police is good, a PBF or PMK, etc...), full camo (pants and jacket), a place carrier, a rifle like an AK-74 and a sidearm, etc.

To become a true king of the zone-tier you have to make a reproduction SEVA suit by hand and carry around A SL8 converted into a G36 clone, Sig 550 variant, or an LR300.

Why is this game so fucking hard? Pistol seems like crap and other ammo just disappears if I try to use it. I'm starting to like it though. The .45s are pretty good sidearms if you can keep a decent load of ammo on you or not have to rely on them too much. The high cap 9s aren't terrible against bandits and low tier critters either but once you start running into bloodsuckers or decently armored stalkers it's time to upgrade

Artifact Degradation. If you use an Artifact, say a Jellyfish that reduces your rads, over time it will be less useful and reduce less rads, and you will get less money for it. Now, you can toggle that option off if you want. Largely the devs used CoPs Artifact stats and crossed them over to span the whole family of Artifacts.

All the AK's in Stalker were stolen from the military or smuggled in, so of course the most common variant is the modern AK-74.

I'm sure lorewise there would be a few AKm's laying about, but it would be kinda weird to design a midgame gun that uses an ammo type that no other weapon in the game uses.

I have the chest rig with AK mags in it. The smersh (or LBE) has a few mags, a cleaning kit, and a revolver, but is mostly filled with first aid, food, water, and survival stuff.

I designed in mind of grab and go, and if I'm getting into a firefight, I can quickly take off the smersh and run with the AK and chest rig.

Especially the version 3.8 I played couple years ago was sooo full of all sorts of new features (squad forming & commanding, level-up systems, warring to take over the Zone's hot spots...), that CoC just feels like a lazy smashup of maps.

CoC is more of a base to add mods to. On its own it's pretty boring but the idea is you mod the fuck out of it to add whatever you want. There is a warfare mod for CoC but unfortunately it's not as polished as the clear sky one yet.

Thanks I didn't know that, the long one came with the mask with the filter seal already broke so I only use it for pics and messing around, I have some smaller Russian and isreali ones for actual use if need be. Ive probably breathed through the long one for a total of 10 Minutes so I should be fine

I have sources.

I met a woman in Wisconsin who survived Chernobyl.
She was very nice but did not speak English well.

She had lived close to Chernobyl and said that they only found out about the disaster by word of mouth.

She drove 4 hours to buy food for her family from the next town so they would have clean food to eat. Many of her friends and her friends children died from radiation.

I'm not sure exactly how she evacuated or if she even did.
A mother, she ended up sending her oldest son to America and made him take her youngest son so that they would not become criminals like most young men in the area.

Somehow she ended up in Siberia for a while and eventually she followed them over.

Having worked as an Electrical Engineer in or near Chernobyl, she was now working at a grocery store. Her very limited English is most likely to blame.

It was difficult speaking with her. All I could do was stop myself from shouting, "cheeki breeki iv damke!" which I was worried would be disrespectful. I did not to ask her if she played S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

They should do a better job requiring people to learn English.

older NATO masks use an uncommon 60mm port that no one uses anymore. You can buy 40mm -> 60mm adapters for modern filters, though.

modern NATO use a 40mm port, as do most modern commercial masks.

Soviet masks use a 40mm port, but it has a different threading than NATO 40mm. NATO 40mm does work with the GP-5 and it's derivatives (pmg-2, etc), but the filters screw in tighter. I don't know if more modern soviet/russian masks work with NATO, though, nor if russian filters work with NATO masks.

I've been playing this game all week. Got the 2009 mod too, it's great.

I have a military friend who is coming back tomorrow for two weeks. We live in northern Michigan and we're going /innawoods/ with guns and shit. Going to bring vodka and a Любэ playlist. Gonna visit a local quarry that has some cool buildings (pic related.) I really want to spend the night but I don't want to get arrested with guns like my uncle did once. It's owned by some faggot preserve or whatever. However by my family's cabin there's an infamous road that has been the source of many spooky incidents, including strange red lights, laughing voices when no one is there, weird military signs gaurding a wooden archway that says "FUNLAND" that I saw this last christmas, half eaten dogs in abandoned houses off the road, etc. etc. I figure we can see the quarry in it's coolness during the day and try to survive in fucking paranormal forest overnight. He's got an AR-15 and full gear and I have a parnder pump 12 gauge and a minivan so we're the perfect team. Wish me luck fellow stalkers...

Yeah, you should be geared for short term scouting, and exploration. If you had the A.L.I.C.E. pack you'd be able to pack enough stuff to last a while. If i were to suggest something though, make sure you take some water purifier tablets with you. Makes the canteen more long term. If you're in the Discord I can give you a bit of a suggestion list for longer term stalking.
