this is not an edc thread. this is a discussion of the firearms we carry and the equipment we use to support it, in order to recommend gear to anons based of body types and firearms

my system is not without faults

otg holsters are cheap and ship fast, but they're a little feature bare. no wings, no wedge, no super tuck, no soft loops like the more expensive brands (jmcustomkydex, for example)
Ive made a wedge for myself using foam and velcro that helps reduce printing

the usp is a big heavy gun that could really use two clips to stabilize.

finally the belt. folks, I love fiest spear they make my plate carrier, they are a high quality gucci brand of ex eagle industries guys making good shit

but the first spear line one sucks. it is the weakest link in my system, it might flex like a regular pants belt, but holy shit there is no stiffness in it and its very thin. the material also scratches easily, the buckle has left many marks. stay far the fuck away from this product

currently deciding on replacemet, with mene gene leather, beltman leather, or an ares gear belt. im open to suggestions

I have a large build (See: Fatbody), I carry my G19 in a M3 Tactical FEDLR IWB. Surprisingly comfortable. The RCS wing does it's job pretty dang well. Good solid support. No actice retention, but it has a good solid click in, and stays put while running. Highly recommend the wide belt clip though. Solid option, beats the hell out of Aliengear.

Hello /k/!
I know about rifles, I know almost nothing about pistols, but I have realized I need a CCW with the city I have moved to. My max budget is $500, but I'd like to be under that. I have been taking some notes on guns I have seen talked about, given my frame I need something small. I don't know what to get. I would like some input. Here are my notes so far:

* Ruger SR9
* Ruger P89
* Ruger LCP (round too small...?)
* Ruger LCP II (number two?)
* Kahr CM-9 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCAb3sh9E5g This one seems very cool. (Striker fired long trigger very accurate.- /b/)
* Sig sauer p938
* XDS 9mm
* Glock 26 (30 round mags! But glocks explode though...)
* Canik- TP9
* Taurus PT111 Gen2
* Kahr CW 380 (!very small! Great in shorts pockets! highly problematic jamming problems and uses the very small round) $275
>>
>>34328424
Tell me about carrying a Steyr; that was my first pistol and I regret giving it up.

Is it a good EDC gun?
>>

I'm 6'1", 195 pounds and I'm a Occupational Therapist. I wear mostly business casual, but pretty much where workout clothes exclusively when not on the clock. I love revolvers, but hate polymer framed ones. Any suggestions on gear and guns?
>>
>>34328788
walther and s&w are running rebates on their subcompact single stack 9mms, the pps and the m&p shield. both will run signidicantly under your budget

rugers are just okay
not a fan of sigs
taurus, canik, and xds is just shit

glocks good but at the upper end of your budget

the pps (m2) and m&p shield are your best bet. go to a local gunstore and feel them up.
>>
>>34328827
buy new gym shorts without an elastic waistband and an internal draw string. j clips like those on the incog holsters will work nicely. look up the haley strategic "always carry a gun" video on youtube, its a good set up, but im not as big a fan of the gun they use, the glock 43. sexy looking, but less pleasent to shoot than a pps
>>
>>34328875
Those are really the only kind of shorts I have. I was thinking about carrying a detective or chiefs special type revolver for the summer, and a larger semi for the colder months when I actually start wearing pants again.
>>
>>34328814
I love it
>>
>>34328908
totally misread your post. revolvers is a weird one. you wont be wearing a belt in gym shorts. you cant carry heavy guns. an airweight would be your best bet, but those kick a lot and are very unpleasent shooters. going off weight, ballistic performance of .38 out of 2" barrel vs 9 out of 3.5", and capacity, id tell you that a polymer 9 is your best choice.

I think a small semi for summer carry and a 4 inch .357 mag revolver for winter carry would make more sense.
>>
>>34328855
The PPS is really very boxy, the Shield pretty good but the trigger pull is heavy and I don't have money to pay gunsmith to fix a new gun.
>>
>>34328788

I carry the g26. Nice gun, can easily be concealed, even with just a t-shirt on. Being able to use multiple size mags is nice too, I usually carry a g17 with a xgrip on it for back up.
>>
>>34329000
I had some problems with the extractor on mine, have you run into that sort of issue at all?
>>
>>34329025
You're right. Maybe an m&p 9? I heard those are pretty decent. I don't mind recoil, I grew up shooting a 2.5 inch .44 mag as the only range gun my parents had, which is why I'm partial to revolvers I guess.
>>
Idk boys this seems an aweful lot like an EDC thread...
You just wait until your father hears about this.
>>
In the process of getting my CC permit and my very own first firearm. It'll probably be a M&P Shield 9mm. I am a little concerned with how I'll keep it concealed because I'm a 5'5'' 130lbs female.
>>
>>34328424
As a fellow tall fat guy where on your body do you carry? I find appendix hurts because my gun pokes into my stomach too much. I usually deep carry an sp101 in a soft holster right next to my cock. Like 3 inches to the right I guess.
>>
>>34329298
Appendix should work well since it can't stab you in the dick when you sit down...
>>
>>34329332
I sometimes carry my phone there. Hope it doesn't print too much. Sucks it the summer though. If I had the cash to blow I'd get a Sig p938 for summer carry.
>Using that S&W rebate for my purchase
>>
>>34329298
Oh don't even come at me with that. Women have so many better places to carry. Your natural curves can hide all kind of shit provided you don't go too tight on your tops. Shit if you wear a padded wire bra you could just jam an lcp in each cup and NOONE would notice but you.
>>
>>34329353
My gf is actually looking at the p238 and p938 as her first gun too.
You could also carry 4:30 just past your hip, but bot quite in the small of your back. I've got a big ass and I can cc a g19 @7 o clock (left handed) with 0 print, if that helps
>>
>>34329364
I'm nearly flat chested. That shit would look so funny.
>>
>>34329364
Better yet just use a fucking purse. A convenient, compact bag you get to carry wherever that it's considered taboo to go through without your permission? Barring major sporting events and government buildings I guess. It's practically begging for a full size of your choice.

>>

* Ruger SR9
* Ruger P89
* Canik- TP9
These are full-size frames but will hit your budget requirement. The P89 is a metal frame monster that you will not carry. If you want an SR aim for the C models. I actually CC one.
* Taurus PT111 Gen2
Skip this one.
* Ruger LCP
super light but not easy to shoot, has problems unless you choose the updated version or II. .380 is a bit of a compromise but with the right ammo is still a good round. If you've never fired a 9mm out of a 10oz pistol I can tell you now it is not fun.

* Sig sauer p938
* XDS 9mm
Will probably put you over budget unless you find them well-used. If your max is 500 for everything, remember to factor in accessories and ammo. Do not cheap out and get a $10 holster for a $450 pistol unless it's a pocket carry.

Good start but there is a huge market to browse in. I don't regret spending several months hunting for the right model for me.
>>
>>34329393
Have you fucking seen the inside of a woman's purse? After the first day of carrying the gun would cease to function because stray hair bands, makeup foundation powder and dried lotion clogged up the action.
>>
>>34329327
I carry about 4:30
>>
>>34329093
No. WHat gen was yours? Previous gens had issues, but the current has seemed to work them out.
>>
I carry a Ruger SP101 .357 mag but most of the time it just sits in my glove box. The only times I even bother to carry now are if I go into the city, which is pretty rare. I do a lot of outside work and even when I'm not on a job I'm usually working on something at my house, parents house, or a friend's house, and it's really uncomfortable to CC for most of the shit I do.
>>
>>34329477
It was an M9 10. Granted, it was occasional and happened using cheap ammo, but it still rankles me. That and the magazines not being drop-free. I loved everything else about them though; wish I could get those sights for an HK.

I've found that the combination of body type, gun size and holster design make for a very "hit or miss" experience. For instance until I added a wedge it was easier to conceal the WML set up at 12 than the bare bones setup at 1 O'clock.

I carry a CZ P01 most of the time, or a USP compact 45. I have a Walther PPK I take out when I just absolutely cannot carry anything else (pretty much never).

The USPc conceals better than the P01, I'll say that. They're both amazing shooters.

>>34331596
makerov is a bit heavy and there isn't good carry ammo for 9x18, unlike .380 auto
furthermore, due to your body type, you could carry a much larger gun comfortably

>>34331605
this

>>34331806
because for the lcr the magnum is steel and the .38 is aluminum, which will be much lighter and much easier to carry on the gym shorts the guy will be wearing most of the time. .357 magnum out of a 2inch barrel has the same performance as 38 special out of the same barrel, so why go for the extra weight at no benefit when he's wearing gym shorts that can tolerate basically no weight

>>34331449
this is not a bird you want to kill with two stones. full size 1911s are the best most pleasant and best functioning 1911s. plus 1911s are single action only, which is probably the worse choice for conceal carry.
get a good solid and cheap carry gun, and then get the nicest full size 1911 you can afford/care to buy for winter carry

the big thing between new and old smiths are the gay hillary holes, that's kind of the face of the problem. but really the quality and craftsmanship, attention to detail, stuff like that are all much better on the old smiths. my usp is from 1993, it's 24 years old now, and if you compare it to a 2015 model (which is what I had on hand to compare to) the quality is still there. you don't get that with S&W

Shoots great, and it's cheap and very simple mechanisms. Academy sells monarch FMJ steel cased ammo, other shit like hollow points or Buffalo boar you'll have to order online. I think Hornady also sells ammo in 9x18. It's a not too heavy in comparison to a PPK, actually it's better than the PPK in pretty much all aspects. Maybe the biggest problem is the magazine release is on the bottom, and the sights are regular military irons.

Tldr
The Bulgarian version is fine, sights and magazine release aren't 'great'. Gun and ammo is cheap and simple.

I'm going for my CWP next month (hopefully if I can get the class I want) and I need a good holster for the Shield 9mm. I'm trying to find one that covers the mag release because its hot down in SC and I sweat, not trying to scrape rust out. Anyone know a good holster for less than $70 for it?

If you're that big, you could always try appendix. I'm 8 inches shorter than you and do fine with a a usp

from my research thus far
>beltman
>mean gene

all good leather conceal carry belts

if you go appendix, use a claw, wedge, supertuck, to hide the grip

>>34333406
heel releases are inherently ambidexeterous and good in military settings where magazine retention is important, because an L shaped reload is pretty efficient on a mak.

>>34333449
custom kydex boi, will easily run under $60 if you buy from otg or ktmech

Not that guy but my friend has an M&P 9, I've cc'd it as a test run and it worked pretty well. Weight is negligible, doesn't hurt to shoot, not too snappy for how light it is, all it would take is a quality holster. Try a few before you buy though
>>
>>34329404
yes unless you get a bit of padding on it. kydex is decent for retention and stability, not so much for comfort
>>
What can I do to prevent my shirt from bunching up on top of my grip? Been carrying a glock 19 at 4 o clock with a crossbreed super tuck. My clip configuration is: one from the top on the sight side and top on grip side. It's comfortable but if i lean forward just slightly the grip catches my shirt.

I should correct this. The shirt isn't catching the grip and pulling my gun out of its holster. It's bunching up when I resume standing straight.

Thanks two questions.

1. Would they work better for full size guns like a Beretta?

2. Is a regular holster better or about the same?

jm custom kydex makes a holster for small semi autos that has separation between the clip and shirt so you can tuck it in. you'll also need to run a double belt system to hide the clip.

I carry a Glock 19 17 rounds of Ranger T 147 gr and an LCP with 7+1 Hornady XTP 90 gr. The Glock I carry cross appendix or Mexican I guess, the LCP in my front pocket. If I'm just running out quickly I'll usually just grab the LCP, but most of the time I bring both

I've been carrying a g42 12 o'clock appendix every day for half a year now. Draws easy, shoots like a .22.

I can carry it on a lightweight belt under a T-shirt while I'm out jogging, although I don't bring the backup mag with me then.

However, I am looking to step up to a Sig P938 because muh 9mm versus .380.

I can somewhat carry my HK p2000 appendix but my problem as with all short and thin people is that if I don't wear really baggy shirts, a double stack gun prints when I go to sit or stand, or if I have to move around a lot.

I've used IWB galco leather, desantis holsters, wallet holsters for mouse guns, but on several occasions I've gone to (or back to) thunderwear. Though now you can get them under another brand name and a wider array of sizes from Amazon.

I think the reason is that a history of hip problems and inflammation just make that style of carry least uncomfortable, while still allowing a one handed draw, if somewhat slower. They also fit pretty much any gun I have.

Most recently have been carrying a USP9c

I'm 5'11 190lbs I conceal USP9. Crossbreed supertuck @ 4 o'clock. Also used this method with this big 'ol all steel Sig P220 that was something like 45 ounces. BELT SELECTON IS CRITICAL. You NEED a gunbelt otherwise youll sag like a coon (im already black wouldnt want to stand out even more). I recommend The Beltman.net. I've had mine for 3 years now, and it's held up well with everyday use. I wore a medium shirt before I carried, now I just wear a large or throw on a light windbreaker.

I use a Px4 Storm compact Beretta. Used to carry a Glock 19 but that lack of a real safety concerned me. I tried some ayyyylmao holster for a bit and found the urban carry. It was so-so until the 2nd generation where they added a magnet to prevent catapulting your gun into your rapist's hands.

It is very fucking comfy and there is zero anxiety about printing. It cannot be be drawn while sitting and will require 2 hands for the smooth draw but it is my choice. Carry all day in comfort with both the holster and not worrying about printing.

Why does constitutional carry matter with printing?

With constitutional carry, atleast in my area nobody cares that you carry OWB or IWB. Seeing people with leg holsters is fairly common in my area, nobody cares. A little bit of printing isn't a big issue, so I might as well carry a full size.

It doesn't matter. Printing isn't an issue in Florida for example which doesn't even allow open carry.

Agree on the 238. Best choice for .380s, well worth the price for its size,and its leagues better than the kther pocket 380s. But the 938 just isn't enough of a better gun to pay double over a shield to do the same job.

I'm pretty committed to the idea the PPS will be my first pistol, lads. I wanted a gun that was small enough to be something a no-gunner would be comfortable carrying every day yet thicc enough to practice with comfortably. Anyone have any strong opinions against the PPS or for something else? The idea of the Honor Guard is ideal, a single-stack 9mm with a compact-length barrel, but it looks ratchet af.

Have to agree with that sentiment. Rebate on the Shield too. I haven't shot a 938 ever as of yet but have the Shield quite a bit. I'm a bit biased at the moment in my experience.
