How exactly do you fight with the bayonet on one of these, or is it meant purely so save bullets by stabbing the wounded?
>Bayonet on a bayonet
GEE BILLY
>>34328265
Stick em with the pointy end
>>34328303
This
Also make sure you have a round in the chamber incase it gets stuck in the enemy.
Discharge to disengage.

I assume we've covered the "stab them with it" angle, so let's discuss the more common confusion: the fact that they're about as sharp as a butterknife. This is true, but it's not an oversight. With the full weight of that heavy-ass rifle behind it, the "un-sharp" bayonet will do its job admirably. Of course it comes up so rarely as to border on 'never' these days, but that's how it works.
Youre supposed to sharpen the point,, theyre supposed to be maintained like any other part on you. The way to properly use them is very similar to a spear, which is a very easy weapon to learn, hence why it was so popular in history. The triangular or socket bayonet was designed that way to make stabbing through clothing much easier, but was phased out by the Geneva Convention and the practical of bayonets with a regular cutting edge
I always assumed that the bayonets on the mosin were shaped that way because you can use them to take apart the rifle.
>>34328537
There's probably some pin you can push out with the bayo to help disassemble in case of fuckup, but at that point you just affix, throw and steal Sergei's or some dead comrade's rifle instead.
>Many years BC
>People who can't figure out that shitting in your water source isn't a good idea figure out that a sharp thing on a stick is great for stabbing stuff
>2017
>Sharpstick technology is now a mystery to man
>>34328564
It's a flatblade screwdriver on the mosin.
Daily reminder the Type 56 is the best variant of AK out there.
>or is it meant purely so save bullets by stabbing the wounded?
It's only that.
>>34328731
Im with you bro. Best and sexiest.
>Dat thick front end with FSB, barrel and bayo
>>34328731
>>34328731
>No rate reducer
It's like you want your peasants to waste all your ammo spraying wildly all over the place.
It was a much needed upgrade in the AKM, why the Chinks didn't do it too is beyond me.
>>34330799
>tfw you will never have a Polytech type-56 in 223 with that furniture.
I hate living in a cucked country.
>>34328731
It really is, my dream AK is one of those ploytech spikers but damn they are pricey, almost too pricey to want to shoot it if I got one
>>34331363
Yea I plan to get one as well. RN I have a Mak90 with type 56 furniture and a bayonet, so I'm satisfied for now.
>>34328398
From what I've read, bayonets are supposed to be somewhat dull, because otherwise they tend to get stuck in bones.
>>34332060
>sharp things getting stuck in bones
the oldest fuddlore
>>34330799
Hey that does a cleaning rod between the barrel and bayo right?
>>34328398
This. Pointy end toward enemy, no need for anything sharper than a ballpoint pen.
>>34332060
No, its because a dull blade is stronger than a pointy one, so it wont break as easily on clothing and the like.
Not that they aren't pointy, but if it was needle pointy, it would break easily.

>Stabbing the wounded

More bullets fired means higher chance of hitting a target.
Come on, this is basic firearms doctrine.
>>34331460
>MAK90 w/ bayonet
How? I thought the lugs were all ground off?
>>34328265
Bayonet drills were pretty basic stuff by design

>what are horses
>>34328265
Bayonet charges were pretty effective back in the musket days, not so much after that when precision and rate of fire improved.

>>34332400
All you have to do is put a type 56 front sight assembly on the gun and you are golden. Polytech still sells them brand new.
>>34332165
>Not putting those suffering out of their misery
You sound like the person who wouldn't kill a horse with a broken leg.
>>34333384
I'll do this then, fuck paying $2,000 for essentially the same thing
>>34328265
Maybe look up one of the many bayonet fighting manuals from the late 19th/early 20th C.?
People seem to forget that guns existed side by side with swords and spears for several centuries. For most of that time guns were relegated to auxiliary units in support of pikes, spears, halberds etc. Then sometime in the 1600's somebody* got the bright idea to make a spearpoint that could socket onto a gun so they could fire a few volleys while advancing and then charge and rout their enemies at bayonet-point. This eliminated the need for separate firearm and polearm-equipped units. For a long time it was accepted that the infantry drove their enemies from the field at the point of the bayonet, and it was emphasised that the bayonet charge was the primary condition for victory. It was this mentality that lead to situations such a Pickett's charge at Gettysburg where they tried to force a conclusion with the bayonet while having failed to weaken the enemy sufficiently with firepower beforehand. The same tune was repeated numerous times in the first world war with even poorer results.
That said, there is still some value to the bayonet, people don't like being poked with cold steel as a rule and when in imminent danger of getting poked will tend to flee. While strategic-scale bayonet charges are thoroughly obsolete, they can still be arranged at the tactical level. Men trained in rifle/bayonet combatives are likely to be more aggressive when closing with an enemy than one without.
Finally if the bayonet is also a saw, wire cutter, bottle and can opener, so much the better.
*The invention of the bayonet is sometimes attributed to the famous French military engineer Sebastien Vauban.
>>34330845
The rate reducer added a tiny microsecond to the action to make it more reliable.
>>34328265
Bayonets are only ever meant for stabbing. The spike design is an improvement on the narrow blade designs that were prone to snapping off.
>>34328265
Query; why did we stop using the extremely long pike-like bayonets which seem a lot better at killing and switch to the derpy knives?
>>34334691
Because the advent of MG's, SMG's and Assault Rifles made the long bayonet rather superfluous, also a long bayonet is best on a long rifle like the Nugget 91/30 which makes for an unwieldy package in anything other than open fields.
>>34334691
because
A) the bayonet was no longer considered a primary weapon
B) The rifle got progressively shorter after WW1, and the bayonet got shorter in proportion.
>>34333384
1. How hard is that to do on a scale of retard with a jizzrag to rocket surgeon with a warehouse of tools?
2. Does it work with other AKs?
3. Link? Because all I could was: http://stores.polytechparts.com/polytech-ak47-front-sight-base-fsb-made-in-the-usa/

That's okay-

things that never happened
>>34334691
Because knives have other uses
>>34334585
yes, there have been bayonnets used in combat even in the past decade, but what really put the nail in the coffin for bayonnets was the ability to just shoot the enemy 30 times in quick succession
