I have a pre 1951 marlin mod. 55 in 20 ga. whose sole purpose is to be as cheap as possible.
Not counting springs and roll pins it has eight moving parts.

I might do that if I get a 4th one. There is a 12ga box mag one at a shop near me that is tempting... always wanted to hack up a extended mag for one of those. Can't do it with the tube fed ones due to the loading mechanism

The same reason they made the Remington 760, 7600 and 7615.

People like pump action so they made it a rifle, where as people like bolt action so they made it a shotgun.

Only the 7615 has an advantage. Pump action rifle in 5.55 that can load stanag magazines.

to cut the barrel past the choke and have a .76 cal smoothebore slug cannon that functions like a bolt gun. I own a J.C Higgins 583.20 and it takes deer reliably and fairly accurately out to 70 yards. im sure i could do more but with rudimentary sites id rather not stretch the distance on having a humane kill.

Some people from the Midwest used to come stay at our duck lodge in Stuttgart, AR when I was a kid. A few of the guys brought along bolt action shotguns that they used for slugs in states where rifle hunting wasn't legal for whatever reason. I always assumed they were for that. Yes, I grew up a fudd.
