I have an infidel mini. It's a great knife for what I use it for.

I don't think so

No. I use a box cutter for literally anything that involves cutting including skinning deer.

Other than kitchen use i suppose

Benchmade's are usually of good quality, but I still don't understand why that much money would be spent on a simple gimmick.

How is it? I've been looking for a 4"-5" fixed blade in a different steel than 1095
>>
>>34326149
Sure i would if i was buying a huge well made bowie.

But the small pocket knife is just not worth that much no matter how you look at it.
>>
>>34329224
should i buy that spyderco knife for $329?
>>
>>34329809
Do you really think that thing is worth about as much as a working out of the factory bolt action rifle?

It does not matter if its cool or if you have money you are being scammed. That thing is 3 times overpriced
>>
>>34329809
Might aswell buy a custom made knife for less money. And you will have a one of the kind blade not made in some factory.
>>
>>34329206
love the look but that's the kind of shit I'd buy on ebay/aliexpress for $10 and then ignoring after a week.
>>

>>34329859
except ebay/aliexpress knives dont have carbon fiber bodies/coating, etc.
>>34329819
im not worried about the opportunity cost, i just want the best knife available
>>
>>34329893
Well there are plenty of youtubers who make knives. Its hard to tell which custom making knife makers are best but all popular ones are great at it.

A knife is a knife and especially a pocket knife is more based on material and not skill. It takes far more skill to make long knives.

So just have someone make it for you and you can even have your name on it or make it really beautiful.

If i had your money i would get a really pretty custom made knife with my last name on it to pass down to my first born son
>>
>>34329937
you actually want a non popular one because the popular ones charge more money. you want a guy who is kind of starting out but still knows what he's doing because those are the ones who will be low priced.
>>
>>34329893
>where should i look into for custom knives?
Good quality steels, avoid the 1080-1095 crowd, there's a lot and they're generally ok for what they are, but not really anything spectacular.

O1, D2 make great smaller-mid sized knives, L6 and 5160 for larger blades. You probably won't find anyone selling many of the Crucible steels or a high quality 440C blade for less than 3-400. They tend to be a higher investment in materials, machines and physical labour for anything bespoke.
"Damascus" aka pattern welded stuff, highly variable on the smith and if its not done properly with the right metals and technique its basically forging flaws into the blade

Have a look around on sites that specifically sell custom made knives, you might get lucky and get a nice knife for not too much money. Avoid ebay/scumtree and craigslist places selling their shit. Basically anyone on those sites is there for a bargain, not quality.

I've spent all afternoon making mokume-gane billets, so I hate my life

I'll the first to say I think a lot companies overprice their shit. That said Protech makes the best autos on the market and both their price and fit and finish are way better than the other high end autos I've handled. The few models I own from them that were around $200 are absolutely worth it.

Dhgate does.dont buy from such a shitty company. They dont make a dingle product of their own.
>>
>>34330547
I just make cutlery in my spare time so I kind of know the materials and what it costs
>>
I have spent $140 on a knife, but only for its historical value.

These days I build primitive weapons. Learned to knap flint, and I've made some decent arrowheads, knives, and scrapers. Built a bow last summer and hunted with it during primitive season, got a 130# spike buck that I processed with stone tools. Very rewarding. Honestly the hardest part of it all was straightening the arrow shafts and making a bowstring that would last. Overall a very fun project though, and a flint knife can be made razor sharp. Puts in perspective that a knife is just a tool, and all the high dollar name brand stuff is not really necessary when you consider it as such.
>>
>>34326172
You have it backwards. A folding knife takes more time and material, so to get the equivalent quality of a fixed blade, you need to spend more.
>>
How about $700 for a fixed blade?

The most expensive knife i have ever bought, well worth it IMO
>>
>>34329893
>except ebay/aliexpress knives dont have carbon fiber bodies/coating, etc.
what I mean is that I test run the design. I don't buy expensive stuff off the bat. I've bought a few clones and often found things deficient in the design. Not the build quality but the base design like grip is not ergonomic, or the blade shape sucks, or the lock is not convenient to use. Specifically for that Mamba I'd want to test run the blade shape because I've tried similar and didn't like it for utility. If you just want pocket jewelry go for it. If you want a knife for utility, test run some knives before you commit hundreds to a single blade and then find out it's not suitable.
>>
>>34326149
yes, if i have $$

The Triage is an awesome knife. It was my EDC while working as a mechanic for a few years and I never managed to break it.

Word of advice btw, if you want to clean yours up try one of those Mr. Clean Magic Eraser things on it. It'll make the G10 look brand new again.

Not as good as a gun, of course, but it's a hell of a lot better than nothing, and not everybody has the option of carrying a pistol around. Look at the poor brits.
