Which barrel length is better for a pinned 5.56 AR: 13.7" or 14.5"? Trying to keep the rifle short without going NFA

Two setups I'm debating between are a 14.5" barrel with a Surefire SF3P, or a 13.7" barrel with a BE Meyers 249 Saker (pic related)
>>
If the OAL is still 16", why bother with less barrel?
>>
>>34326052
SF3P would be 16.5", 249S would be 16"
>>
>>34326069
That doesn't answer the question. Why use a barrel shorter than 16"? At what point do the advantages of a shorter barrel get trumped by the disadvantages? If they're negligible, choose whichever barrel length will give you the preferred muzzle brake.

>>34325920
>let me sacrifice muzzle velocity for absolutely no reduction in barrel length

I can kind of understand 14.5" pinned and welded so your entire barrel length including flash hider is 16", but there is absolutely no reason to get a 13.7" with a longer flash hider to make it 16" overall.
>>
>>34325920
is there any viable options for an integrally suppressed 16" AR upper?
or is there an option to have a permanently mounted suppressor on a however short of a barrel still gives me the OAL of 16" ?
>>
>>34326398
Gemtech Integra is an integrally suppressed 16-in in .300 or 5.56 but it's 2k

Is a 0.55" shorter rifle worth losing 0.8" of barrel length?

the real question is what is the intended purpose of the rifle?

wow op

Defense and training. Trying to keep it compact

?

And you think... a half inch...
anon....
>>
>>34327639
14.5 + 2.67 = 17.7"
13.7 + 2.95 = 16.65"

Subtract 0.62 from each to account for thread length and you get the half inch difference. Are you retarded?

In not questioning the math of it you idi... So you wanted a firearm for defense and 'training'. So you picked an ar that requires a buffer tube and are asking about the length like it means fuck all...
Have you ever owned any other guns? Have you ever done defensive shooting courses? Of course not.

To answer your question, it doesn't matter. That is such a non-factor... It's perplexing.

Anon....

Get a KAK brace and don't worry about fucking nfa.
>>
>>34327879
Hey dumbfuck, if you really cared about OAL you'd pick a rifle with a folding stock.
>>
hey unrelated note, how do you guys like my dd m4
>>
>>34328034
Yet OP is asking about an AR. Cool your autism
>>
>>34327879

Why the Gucci flash hider in general? If you're going to use it as a suppressor adapter, I think the length worry is a bit pointless, don't you think?

>>
>>34328072
Gives a QD MD that offers shortest OAL possible. If he's getting a suppressor down the line then it still means a shorter rifle
>>
>>34328063
The best length for an AR is 20". The best, shortest non-nfa length is 16". If OP wants a short barrel he should take 5 minutes and do his own research. Maybe then he'll learn about these arm brace things that magically turn a would-be sbr into a 'pistol'. Then he can go ahead and get that uber compact 0" barrel ar that everyone's talking about

Tl;dr: OP do your own fucking research, or submit to the retards of /k/.
>>
>>34328113

That's somewhat my point, though. He states that he doesn't want to build an SBR to avoid going NFA, but if he is future proofing a rifle with the thought of going NFA to acquire a suppressor, then why worry about building an SBR? If he's buying a Gucci flash hider for purely aesthetic reasons, apparently optimizing length isn't much of a priority and half an inch is negligible.
>>
18 inch is the greatest of all 5.56 AR barrel options. Fact.
