It's a Norinco from what I've been told. I haven't found any Chinese markings on it but that's a warn down Norinco marking.

It's an early sino-soviet. As in, it was made under Russian supervision. Notice how the arsenal mark (the triangle) is on the right side of the serial number, and it has the early blade bayonet instead of the newer spike bayonet.

As long as the chrome is good and there's no nasty rust on it, you got a good deal.

I haven't check the barrel that closely yet, and to be completely honest I'm not entirely sure how to check the chrome on it. This is my first rifle so I'm still pretty new to the whole firearms hobby.

Chrome is easy to check:

>clean out rifle with cleaner (Hoppes, whatever) and a bore snake
>get a Q-Tip, stick it partially into the barrel
>shine bright light from a flashlight/etc into the barrel
>if the chrome is good, you'll see a VERY shiny silver, almost mirror-like, surface

At least from the pictures, the exterior is in great condition. That's a 1958 rifle, meaning it's one of the first ever made Chinese SKS's.

Correct. Arsenal 26 is Jianshi, which is the original producer of SKS's. Other factories such as 906 (like mine) popped up later on.

As long as the rifling is visible and the lands aren't too fucked up or the crown is chipped you should be fine. There really is no fast and easy way, your best bet would be to shoot it and find out.

You can do that in PA too (and pretty much anywhere that isn't a horrible commie shithole). NJ however is a unique flavor of shit, in that you can only use rimfire or blackpowder on free state game lands. Shooting on private land is illegal due to "muh population density" (fuck you too, Newark, Paterson, and Trenton), so your only real options for centerfire are to go to PA or to pay out the butthole for a private range membership.
