It was a JA-37, and it was not "following" the SR-71 it managed to get a brief radar lock on it by going full speed then pulling up at full burner long enough to get the radar on target despite only being able to maintain a top speed of barely over Mach 2 and a ceiling of 60.000feet

This was of course only possible since the Viggen was waiting for the SR-71 to come the same route that it did every time.

nah.

Managed to take a class taught by one of the engineers who worked on pic related and the X-29 once and it's mind boggling how complicated aircraft design can get. He tried explaining to the class a NASA report he'd written and it just went over everyone's heads.

Me too in an indirect way. I am a mechE in aerospace and I jog by the A-12 daily.

>>
>>34327403
Sr-71 is better than rockets in every way possible, but i will admit that the man responsible for the saturn class rockets is a genius in the field of rocketry, also, having a giant penis is not gay, but admiring giant penises is gay.

and he is still hated by every nuke and submariner in the US navy.
>>
>>34323440
god I wish I could've seen a Saturn V launch in person.
so fucking beautiful.
also - some time ago, I ran the math - the Saturn V, if ICBM'd (don't ask me why) could potentially orbit a ~400mt class bomb, or sub-orbitally throw a ~600mt class bomb, based on sheer payload weight.
wish I wrote the calculations down.
>>
>>34326167
It's honestly a genius design. It's basically a better MiG-21, but the west never really had a use for such a limited-role aircraft.

I wish I could see a Saturn V, or Energia near equivalent (with a safe distance).

Looking forward to future heavy lift designs and execution.
