Things that you heard on /k/ and thought they were lying or over exaggerating about.

I'll start:

>getting handgun in NC
>go to ft. bragg PMO for form
>knowledgeable civilian black man informs me that if I get permits then get 5 because they last 5 years and gives me form
>big gut w/ a mustache paces behind black man and stops to listen in
>chat with el negro about which guns I may get
>USPc or Jeicho941 in 9mm
>gut mustache ruffles
>"yew wanna shoot a mans gun git yew a nineteen-levun. for-dee-five. Now thats a hundgun"
>"haha. Thanks man, I'll think bout it."
>360 and leave PMO

Wat do you do in these situations? You guys werent fucking kidding.
>>
I think everyone should own at least one 1911.
>>
>>34313718
Sounds like an Army problem, not an NC problem.

And you handle it like any adult would, just do what you need to do and leave. Why give a fuck what people say?
>>
>>34313734
unironically? they seem pretty solid and reliable but 7+1 is my turn off. even John Wick didn't like the thing because of that.
>>
>>34313775
the guy was a civilian working there. I didn't blame it on NC or bragg. just said it was something i didn't really believe happened.
>>
>>34313792
Yeah, un-ironically. Granted, I live in a cuck state so all I can legally have is 10 rounds. They are awesome handguns though and I'd own one even if I had unrestricted access to the full market.
>>
>>34313792
I mean, most are 8+1 with the new magazines now.
>>
>>34313792
This 1911 holds 16+1 10 mm.

All LGSs suckk dick. You just have to find the lesser evil.

Every modern semi pistol has a direct lineage to John Brownings Hi-Power/P35 tilting recoil system which was directly upgraded from his design of the venerable 1911.

It's the most historically relevant handgun to ever exist and the longest serving handgun of any military - 1911-1986. There's an undefinable charm the 1911 exudes that has to be experienced to be understood.
>>
>>34313792
Compare a 1911 to a usp45

8+1 in the 1911
12+1 in the USP

BUT

You can fit two 1911 magazines in a single double stack mag carrier

(8+1) + (16) = 25
(12+1) + (12) = 25

With a 1911 vs a double stack 45 you just have to change mags one more time to get the same amount of rounds down target. Of course the 1911 is thinner (generally more concealable) and has a superior trigger (and ergonomics imo).

Also how much LGS employees can be such dicks. I thought the cockyness of LGS employees was a meme until I started going to stores in my area. They take one look at you and decide they're either going to pretend you aren't there or condescend constantly on whatever you're interested in that they dont like.
>ask to see specific rifle, a savage I think. >Guy says they have those, but they also have some other rifle thats "waaay better and almost the same price"
>Go back and forth until I give up on him, his mama, the rifle, and that store forver.

Im thinking the guy was falling behind on his Ruger sales or whatever gun it was.

I much prefer the dudes at Cabelas or other big box stores where they have actual retail standards and training.
The LGS employees might know a bit more about guns, but it isnt worth how cocky they are. Besides if I go to a gun store I pretty well know what I want already. I've probably started at leas2 threads on here about the gun before Ive even handled it, so going to a retail/big box isnt a problem.

That isn't important when you already own a pistol that holds 15+ rounds. At that point you're a hobbyist and martial applications start to matter less, as long as you're comfortable with your "working" gun.
>>
>>34313734
I don't necessarily like to hold believes that require everyone to conform to my thoughts and actions such that I can feel self validation.... But I love my 1911 and I can't exactly say why despite firing many other pistols and owning a glock 19 and ruger 8605

Has anyone even shot one of these enough to see if rock islands pot metal will hold up to full power 10mm loads?

I honestly think it will crack or warp.

They get away with making bottom of the barrel 1911's with the cheapest castings because .45 is a low pressure round and because of the capacity they don't experience that high volume of shooting but its an insult to good 1911's to call r.I.a. good.

When do you envision needing more than nine rounds?

Are you planing to shit yourself while emptying the magazine in terror?
>>
>>34314648
Need to get form to hand in when getting pistol purchase permit. Form is for mil only. PPP is for everyone in NC who want to buy a handgun legally.
>>
>>34313734

They should, as a reminder. Mine is the shittiest handgun I own, and I say that as a Nagant revolver owner.
But while the handnugget is horrible, it has the same capacity and at least it goes bang every time instead of stovepiping.
>>
>>34313792
>7+1 is my turn off. even John Wick didn't like the thing because of that.
Oh, so you plan on going on a revenge fuelled killing spree because you are an ex-super assassin?

Why don't you bother to look up how many rounds the average shooting involving self-defense by a civilian actually uses? It is surprisingly low. Don't look at how many rounds the police go through and think that is indicative of anything; the average LE officer has less range time than the average gun owning civilian, and the majority of LE officers don't even receive training for operating their firearms under stress.
>>
>>34314277
I went to a gunshow and had the exact opposite experience. Yeah there was a bunch of overpriced shit but other tables had really great deals on guns. There were bushmaster ARs going for 450 dollars, brand new Ruger 10/22's for 179 bucks, and I came close to buying a USP in .40 for 450 bucks, but I didn't because I'm fucking poor. I did pick up a magpul vertical grip for 8 bucks, a milsurp m16 cleaning kit for 5 bucks and a tekmat. Overall had a good time.

Always assumed the guy who said it was just exaggerating because lol Texans. Suddenly, watching 5 mins into https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqQed5169zw&t=5m, I realize he's right.

>>
So what is the best 1911 for an anon to get?
>>
>>34318073
Jesus fucking christ. I knew they were slow but that is insane! Ive heard stories of fuddy five not going through car winshields or of people being shot multiple times with a 1911 and surviving with no critical damage.

My father used to tell me that the whole .45 manstopper meme came from back when all the army used was .38 specials. And my father was imo very fuddish. It was always funny for him to talk to other fudds and when the .45 conversation came up, he would always say ".45 is only good for shooting 3rd world natives" and watch the old guys turn red in fury
>>
>>34318073

>>
>>34314277
I thought it would be different in Canada but it's the exact same fucking thing with even less variety.

>>
>>34313718
I have never heard anyone in NC say this. I blame the fact that you were in Fayetteville, widely considered to be the event horizon of our state's terminal asshole.

It is more convenient to buy several forms if you buy a lot of pistols but you can apply for them every month. The bill that removes these permits just passed the House with a majority and is going to Senate so keep an eye on that. Expect the new nutless Democrat governor to veto it once and get overridden by the Republican majority.

>>34314197

Those do look slower than I would have expected (perhaps a function of watching with a camera instead of my eyes), but you can see 9mm and 12 gauge slugs at ranges like that, no problem.
>>
>>34323443
9mm and .40 are a good 300fps faster than .45, so I guess most common pistol calibers are visible then.
>>
>>34313734
I kinda want a 1911 only because I also own an M1 Garand.

First gunshow I went to had all of this. I internalized the "stereotypical nazi guy" as being just par for the course with shows.

>>34314413

First gun store I went to ever. Store owner was an old fucker.

Opening remarks to me on my first meeting with him was "that damned nigger in washington is really fucking everything up, isn't he?".

Every trip afterwards was an adventure in shit service. Faggot never stocked .40S&W or .30-06. Had nothing but a big ass barrel of old carcanos, .22 imitations of intermediate guns, fuddshit, and a bunch of ian-tier forgotten weapons.

Even had trouble buying goddamn ear plugs from the faggot.

The one good thing about the fucker I can say, though, is that he sold me the rarest gun in my collection -- a Bannerman nugget.

Needs an arched mainspring housing and wraparound grips. Then it'd be perfect.
Still, pretty nice.
>>
>>34318073

If the lighting's right you can see .22 LR rounds going downrange as well.
The CCI copper-plated ones are easiest to do this with.
Get the sun behind you and over to one side, and you can see 'em.
Couple of my childhood friends were convinced this was bullshit, then I showed them.
Same with .380, .38, and .45. Anything sub 800 FPS or so you can see if the conditions are right.
>>
>>34324840
This gent >>34323443 says he can see 9mm, so it sounds anything below 1200fps might be visible.
>>
>>34325321
Based on shot gun slug veiwing, I'd say it's very lighting dependent, but up to 1400 fps is doable if the range is over 50 yards.

The bigger bullets are easier to see in bad lighting, and recoil can fuck up your tracking.
>>
>>34314277
I actually have the opportunity to go to a gun show for the first time, are they all crap or something?
>>
>>34324507
All the gunshows in Columbia have that feel to them but other than one store in particular, all them ones I've visited are actually well staffed and everyone is really nice and pleasant, and more than willing to hold a conversation with you. Except for PSA, because they don't hire enough salesmen.
