What is it, /k/? At least its country of origin...
Uncle's mate just sort of gave it him, it's a .410 shotgun - pretty much all I know
I own a couple of old military rifles, this gun smells old
Clearly a musicians piece...
No other markings on the gun, at least if there were they've worn away

According to
http://www.nramuseum.com/media/940944/proofmarks.pdf
that proof mark on the right is English and your gun was manufactured between 1811-1892.

Cheers,
considering its a 410 I would guess the latter half of those dates

1874 or later

Also note that this is a black powder proof. I'd be hesitant about using modern cartridges. Higher chamber pressure + old gun = bad time.

I'll make sure I tell him - it'll his first ever black powder gun!

Sorry, misread the proof house. This is actually Belgian.

Belgian, and the stylized EL proof mark has been in use SINCE 1852, the cartouche with E over LG since 1893. The "spangled J" with a star over it (looks like an "r" with a star below it) is a Pierre Neuprez inspection mark, used between 1930 and 1968. The stick with what looks like a wifi symbol on it is called the Perron, used since 1853 and indicates proof of the breech system.
