I can't shoot anything heavier than 150gr through my PSL and SVT. There are documented cases on various forums of heavy ball ammo damaging PSL rifles. One guy talked about his top cover blowing off with 174gr bear.

I'm being cautious about the SVT because it's gas system is fragile to begin with.

The SVT is inherently weak and seems to fail without reason. Mine was arsenal refurbished new when I got it. I've read stories of the recoil springs coming loose and bending into knots inside the receiver because it's not fully captured. It just sits inside a half circle notch and relies on pressure to stay in place.

They come in large batches from time to time, you buy it when the getting is good. It's not unusual for it to disappear for a few months and go up in price a bit, just to have the market flooded with it again a short while later.

I'm just saying, the deal is you're in the vast minority that doesn't buy much ammo. Mosin owners can shoot basically anything through their guns, so Tula/etc will just cater to them instead.

I personally own two categories of guns: guns that use cheap and easy to reload ammo, and guns that are safe queens/wall hangers. The former group are shit like x39, 223, 8mm Mauser, 54r, and so on. The only major turn-off that a Vepr has compared to the PSL's is the tall mags, and even then the CS Specs mags are more than workable. It's a small inconvenience to pay for better accuracy.

As for that chin/cheek wield BS, if it's such a big deal for you, just get an SVD clone stockset from Legion or whatever. it makes you a massive poser, but it still comes out to hundreds less than what a PSL costs for a gun that is better on every single objective measure.

My 54r/308 aks destroy the casings anyway. And the brass cases seem to be even far worse looking than my steel(pic related). But I don't have any brass casings to take a picture of here. More often than not, there's big gouges or other bends from ejection. I'm guessing OP's svt isn't any better.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't think you'd want to reuse that.

There are crazy people who convert steel cases to boxer primers and reload them. Some guns prefer the steel cases and you don't end up crying over lost brass.

Check back a few years on youtube and other forum sites. You will find tons of convert cases from berdan to boxer how to's.

I tried it with some surplus x54r cases, to see if I could for shits and giggles. It was not all too hard to do, and the only "extra" piece of equipment I needed was a primer pocket swager.

I reload for my g3, which can produce dents that bad. I also use military brass which is of thicker gauge, and will probably cycle out the brass as it gets shittier. As long as you don't load them too hot it should be ok.
The case will re-expand once fired in the chamber back out to a normal shape.
Also, the brass isn't too expensive.
If you really don't want to reload then stock up, or shoot it less.
