(noob here) Why are Russian casings typically dark and other casings are brass. Why is this? are they made of something different?
>>
>>34311117
Yup, they're coated steel.
>>
>>34311117
>are they made of something different
steel
>>
>>34311117
Because they're steel case and other stuff is brass cased?
>>
The cases are probably made of steel
>>
>>34311117
black cases are aesthetic
>>
Ohh, cheers guys
>>
Because people who buy slavshit are poorfags.

Steel case ammo is cheap as dirt.
>>
>>34311162
>poorfags
Because we should all go plink with match grade ammo right?
>>
>>34311162
>it's a different material so it's bad
Funny, because non-tula factory 5.45x39 7n6 has velocities within range of mil-spec 5.56x45 M855 ball shit.

This.
And these are all steel case, the coating on them is what makes the color what it is. These aren't even all the colors they can be, some are really dark.

>>34311268
>tfw I bought 2k rounds of Golden tiger
>turns out they were part of the bad run that had hard/defective primers
>>
>>34311372
That sucks, better than one of those "corrosive primer" bad batches some companies have had.
>>
>>34311405
I might have also bought a batch of corrosive RAS shit around the same time ;-; I've barely touched it since but I think I still have about 800-900 rounds of it. I also have some ol' brown bear which I'm almost hesitant to shoot since it might as well be collectible now, lel
>>
>>34311162
Without cheap steelcase ammo there's no reason to buy an AK at all as a civilian in the US. This is why Ruger's Mini Thirty is such a turd sales wise.
>>
>>34311431
I bought silver bear once, it was only good for mud busting IMO. Not real accurate vs my golden tiger. It was especially frustrating because I wast trying to sight in a scope with it. Had that sucker sighted in real fast once i switched back.
>>
>>34311131
Slit your throat.
>>
>>34311177

>not wanting to shoot the best ammo at all times.
>>
>>34311117

A few important notes here, tovarich, if you're new to steel cases:

Steel can be made to be just as soft with brass, therefore, contrary to Fuddlore, it will NOT scratch/break/beat up your gun. Don't be afraid to use it for plinking; it's fine.

However, steel canNOT be as elastic as brass. Therefore, it cannot expand and seal the chamber when fired in the same way brass does. That means it shoots dirtier, and carbon will build up in the chamber around the throat of the case, as well as blowing back into the receiver. Again, by itself, not a problem; just means more cleaning.

When that DOES become a problem is when shooting brass AFTER steel. The brass can expand to seal the chamber (as it should), and seal to the fresh carbon deposits, and then not eject. That leaves you with an empty case stuck in the chamber, which requires hammering out with a wooden or brass rod inserted into the barrel, or requires "mortaring" the rifle (not recommended). Do remember to remove the magazine before removing the stuck case, of course.
>>
>>34311451
I seem to remember a similar experience with my AK-74.

7N6 was fine, seemed like point of impact was off with the silver bear.
>>
>>34311177
>not plinking with .50 BMG innacity
cuck
>>
>>34311619
woah, interesting
>>
>>34311626
I didn't have much problem with their 545. And point of impact differences are not too bad since they can be adjusted for.
Their 762 was just all over the paper. Shit groups.
>>
Avoid ammo with a lacquer coating, because it will bake onto the chamber of the rifle and generally screw things up.
>>
>>34311131
Yes sir

>>
>>34311619
This actually happened to me before and never knew why thank you.
>>
>>34311797
Just don't get thier 762, barnaul 545 has treated me well.
>>
>>34311619
Thanks for that comrade
>>
>>34311815
What about their x54R
>>
>>34311832
Never tried it. I've never had reason to use anything other than surplus till recently.
I've got some tulammo 150gr 54r but I've yet to shoot it. Hopefully within a week or so I'll take that out to the back yard and see how it does.
>>
>>34311117
They're shitty steel because Russia is poor.
>>
>>34311177
Or you know you could stop being so poor.
>>
>>34311846
Tulamo 54r is kinda crap.

t. relative newgunz who got a nugget after all the spamcans were gone
>>
>>34311619
you sound well versed in stuck cases which makes perfect sense for someone who shoots a lot of steel cased ammo.
I've shot many a round of brass cased ammo and have not had this problem(that's to include brass blanks through a MG, which are known for poor quality brass).
>>
>>34312026
I'll see for myself when I shoot it from the psl. Russian surplus is practically 1in group ammo, I need to stock up on as much of that as I can if it ever becomes available again.
At least I have 5 spam cans and change left before I'm out. Then a couple more cans worth of other bulgarian stuff. That's 90% good ammo with 10% odd flyers that make no sense.

>>34311878

>>
>>34311539
Well when your rifle is a fair weather range queen, I guess i'd want to run only ammo that will suit its picky palate too.

not all of us live here and can plink with $1/rd ammo
most of us would rather shoot 2-5rds per dollar instead
>>
>>34311765
Not fuddlore. But hey, it's a free country so feel free to dismiss my advice. Just don't be surprised when OP finds himself with brass glued to the chamber and he busts the extractor trying to get it out. I've been down this path before.

how many hundreds of millions does an estate like this cost
>>
>>34312206
I have a sneaking suspicion you didn't understand his post.
>>
>>34312680
I wish I knew, it makes me tired just to think of what it'd take to maintain it and having to deal with any of it.
The lifestyle involved in that just doesn't seem attractive to me.
>>
>>34312680
Location location location. I can get you that for 90, 105 million tops if you like Southeast Asia. Ladyboy prostidudes not included. Somewhere that doesn't smell like ass half the time? Twice that at least. Four times if it has to be a 100% privately owned island. If you don't want most of it to be underwater in 50 years... basically go fuck yourself.

>>34312828
Wealth maintains itself well enough, actually. Investing for four hours a week doesn't kill you, its getting that wealth in the first place that does. That's if you don't succumb to greed and go down the toilet bowl of more more more. Once you start chasing a tenth digit your life is basically over, and the eleventh digit turbo elite aren't even human anymore.
It occurs to me now you mean maintaing the property though, which I know basically fuck all about. Coastal buildings do not hold together terribly well unless you vastly overengineer. Architectural grade galvanized steel is not cheap and proper stainless steel is just fuck my shit up territory cost wise.
>>
Speaking of steel cased ammo, does anyone know if Tula 7.62x39 is any good? I am no guns but want to know if it won't ruin the SKS I'm buying.
>>
>>34312985
Steel cased ammo is not going to "ruin" your gun. Read the thread ffs. You just have to pay more attention to, and spend more time on, cleaning.
>>
>>34312985

It's an SKS.

Any eastern block ammo was literally made specifically for that gun, and the AK.

I don't know how you can possibly be worried about this.

>>
>>34311177
If you can't afford good ammo, then rimfire is better suited for you. You're not going to hunt with Ruski FMJ milsurp.

I've shot deer w/FMJ, as long as you hit a bone (like a rib) your GTG as the fragments lacerate the heart/lungs
>>
>>34311117
Lacquered, or if newer; polymer coated steel. It's cheaper and lighter, so infantry can carry more, but is hard on the internals of weaponry.
>>
brass cases can get ripped in half if they get stuck in aks and sks's since they eject so violently so it's better to use steel in those guns and it's what they were designed for

How does zinc plated compare to other steel cased ammo?

I found a picture of you

ive had bad luck with zinc personally but maybe it was a bad batch (stuck cases, rims ripped off).
give it a try and see for yourself, its cheap enough
