Was wanting a semi automatic .308. Was thinking a FAL or a DPMS 308 AR. What does /k/ think I should get?
(Pic somewhat related, it's an aero-precision 308 AR.)

I went ptr... but I like ARs too. FAL be cool but most aren't made right.
I like my dpms g2. I got the ap4 with the pencil barrel and added the MI rail. It was overgassed with the suppressor, but an A5 buffer tube with an AR10 rifle spring and spikes t2 buffer smoothed it out. Pmags need to be modded and performance is spotty, so you'll need to stick with dpms or lancer mags.

I built my own DPMS spec with PSA Gen 1 receivers and assorted parts, and am very happy with the result (on left in pic). Cost me $800 (including shipping and FFL fees), + tools and scope. Only problem is the overly tight magwell (steel mags are too tight, Magpuls are fine after some whittling, and are very reliable).
PSA has since brought prices even lower ($600-800), so you can get a good .308 DPMS AR for less than a good AR-15 cost a few years ago, or build your own. Sign up for their newsletter and wait for sales.

I went with DSA and am happy with what I got. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Not op but also looking into the 308 market with something that I can mount a scope easily. Around 2.5k budget and eyeing the rfb right now.

Scar 17, a couple hundred more for a sex rifle.

Are there any OK ones I can use to hunt for around 1k?

Mws any good? Only complaints I see are it apparently being over gassed and heavy, but I still want one more than a scar for some reason.

Case in point: $700 + shipping + FFL http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-gen2-pa10-18-mid-length-308-win-stainless-steel-lightweight-m-lok-rifle-516446310.html?trk_msg=6UV50SJVGLI4HB8VC6D16LVTS8&trk_contact=U88SDQB447R43P8CPQSRQU6FDK&trk_sid=DSGC9JUDPMKB0FJ6FORS5PU81S&utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=http%3a%2f%2fpalmettostatearmory.com%2fpsa-gen2-pa10-18-mid-length-308-win-stainless-steel-lightweight-m-lok-rifle-516446310.html&utm_campaign=Daily+Deal+Email&utm_content=11%3a00+Email
How'd you come up with those two options, they are several hindred dollars apart.
You can get an easily modifiable ar10 from psa for around $600
Dsa voyager which is the cheapest new production fal is like $1,100. You will be mostly be stuck with its basic bitchness too as they arent very customizable.
You're an idiot, get the ar10 spend the rest on a scope some targets and ammo
Upgrade as you wish over time.

Shit, thats a good deal.
how about for someone looking for something more classic? Thinking about the Springfield M1A Scout, maybe something actually used in Nam or something though?
