Are revolvers obsolete?

No because they're still the most reliable option for big bore handgun rounds.
>Are revolvers obsolete?
In a conventional military setting ya
but they can fit niche rolls for certain things like pocket carry or certain type of sports.
>>34306665
I can't think of any real uses for them in a professional setting.
That said, I held out against buying one for the longest time, and when I finally bought mine, I could immediately see why there are so many diehard revolver fanboys. They may be obsolete, but that doesn't mean revolvers aren't worth keeping around.

Yes,

>For duty use
Yes.
>For concealed carry, fun at the range, and high power handgun/handgun hunting
No.
>>34306875
>>34306836
Im thinking about getting one for concealed carry, is this a bad idea?
>>34306977
no not at all
>>34306977
hardly, the snub nose ones are just no fun to practice with imo.
but with the right (i.e. shoulder) holster even a larger wheelgun can be properly concealed
>>34306665
No.
Only if you use Tarsus or Smith and Wesson...having an internal lock on a revolver kind of defeats the purpose of revolvers.
You use revolvers because there are no safety's and when you pull your superior trigger with a fixed in line barrel you will have a guaranteed shot without fumbling with grip and flip safety's to engage and disengage and your first shot will be the most accurate.
>>34306977
From a pure practicality standpoint, I wouldn't. Is there any particular reason why you're looking at carrying a revolver over an M&P Shield or a Walther PPS?
That said, if you're just doing it for funsies, I'm sure you'll be fine.

you know the glock exists right
Ironically enough pretty much all the good felon guns are revolvers. That's where black powder technology ended up. Cowboys and bandits...
>>34307150
You know FTF exist right?
You know misfire exist right?
Worst thing that happens with a revolver is that you just pull the trigger again and your good to go, if you have a hang fire...well then you have a flash bang and a bullet going towards the enemy.
>>34307197
or the timing is fucked, and you're fucked.
Why does everyone forget to mention large game? But please, go ahead and defend yourself from a bear with your non obsolete glock 19.
>>34307214
If you don't practice/try out your gun at the range when you bring it home from the fun store before carrying it, then you deserve to die.
However you can do a tap rack and bang of a revolver by opening the cylinder, rotating it and smacking it into place.
>>34306665
I don't think so, but even if they were, for the same reason folks buy milsurp bolt-action, they're lots of fun and can still kill just fine, even if more practical tactical ways of killing exist
Modern cars are high pressure direct injected, turbocharged, making insane power per liter compared to the cars I thought were cool in high school, but that doesn't mean an VW bug won't get you across town just fine, it may not be as fancy but there's also a feeling that can't be captured that certain people enjoy
>>34307214
>muh timing
Cool false equivalency bro. Have you ever even owned a revolver? Timing problems are the very first thing you check for when buying one, and timing issues are only a real issue for:
1.) Colt designs, which are infamously fragile due to having only a two point lockup rather than a three or four point lockup
2.) Revolvers with a sideplate that have been used to fire thousands of full power magnum rounds.
Timing issues do not happen with anywhere near the frequency as things like failure to fire, failure to feed, failure to eject, double feeding, failure to go into battery, etc.
muh GIGN

If you live in an area with venomous snakes and innawoods is any part of your shtf fantasies you MUST pick a revolver for your secondary. Hard to get a fast kill on a snake with solid slugs from a handgun/rifle. Revolver with first two chambers of snake shot is potent medicine when you're trying to take a shit and piss off a rattlesnake.

High Standard Sportsman Model 777 or 999. Top break .22lr.
Truth be told, Webleys & Enfields have awful triggers and are inaccurate, most of the cheaper American .32 & .38 Top Breaks tend to weak springs and easily break.

It should be noted for those unaware that the reason you use a revolver for rat/snakeshot is because they dont cycle the action of normal pistols... Usually

>Are revolvers obsolete?
They are the only guns that don't go obsolete.
Take an automatic polymer pistol from 10 years ago and compare it to one made this year and the newer one will have modern features to help it shoot better.
Take a revolver from 50 years ago and compare it to literally any gun made this year and the revolver will shoot just as good.
The only thing modern pistols are good for is is being able to shoot more bullets before reloading. Reloading time is almost the same between magazines and speed loaders.

Despite people telling you snubnosed revolvers are hard to shoot, they're really not that bad.
With standard pressure ammo, a .38 Special snub is very pleasant to shoot. It's shooting +P ammunition that gives snubs their reputation for being hard to shoot.
>ywn be GIGN
>>34306875
maybe as last resort piece granted they provide a more powerful cartridge for use in a situation where 1 hit may be necessary (looking at GIGN). for my bug out love to have one in packsaddle holster, but then again 357 sig and the Conan exist thus negating my argument

I still have a fetish for them regardless of their shortcomings

Yeah but who cares. The nintendo 64 is obsolete but everybody still plays that shit cuz its fun
>>34306665
Yes and no.
They're obsolete for military use, and police use is debatable.
But there are advantages in the design over semi-automatics that gives them a niche. That helps keep them going.
