Im not. She's in the final stages of kidney failure. That coupled with a serious infection and a protien deficiency. She's not eating either.

My girls kidneys are shutting down due to Lyme Disease which the vets decided not to treat her for a year ago.

It's killing me. She went in six months from being energetic and bright to sad and quiet. You can tell she feels like shit all the time.

Maybe a year.

Kicker is I live away 99% of the time due to divorce and needing to take work where I can. I won't even see her most of that year.

At least you can be there, help her however you can throughout her difficult, final days. Hug that pupper anon. Tell her you love her and do all her favourite things.

I lost two puppers not far apart a few years ago, OP, so I feel your pain. I said goodbye to my Border Collie at my parent's house as I swung by quickly, and as I bounced out the door, said "I love you, I'll swing by on the weekend". She didn't make it to the weekend and I never saw her again. The other simply had to be put down while I was away, he got sick.
It still hurts. It'll always hurt. But I've picked up another, and doing my best to take care of him eases it.

My mother used to do a lot of animal rescue and at one point my beagle I've had since I was 2 (still around, loud but lovable bastard in the photo, won't ever sit still for images though) basically fathered multiple litters of puppies.

Pure bred beagle puppies.

So we basically ended up with about 2 beagles, and 6 beagle puppies, with them all howling, barking, and playing constantly.

I take back what I said now that I think about it. Beagles are loud, and sometimes annoying, but that loud, long BARUUUUUUUUUUUUU is something I'm never going to get tired of hearing, especially from my 18 year old one in the pic.

They sure do like sniffing fucking EVERYTHING though. Can't open anything or go anywhere without them darting in to sniff everything around and then go back to the living room to lie down.

Best battle buddy award of the month goes to the beagle breed for July.

Anyone ever been Beagling and Bassetting? It's where they take hundreds out to a field and let them roam until they find small rodents, generally rabbits, or ground hogs, then they tear em apart. Sometimes they shoot the rodent to put it out of its misery before it gets torn up badly. Pretty sure its why Ive got mine. Little dudes gunshy and randomly showed up on my ex-gf's farm one afternoon so I adopted him after postering the area talking to neighbors, ect... Think he ran away from a hunt. Every night for about 2 weeks, before I officially adopted him and took him to the vet he would come back around sunset with her dogs and a fresh kill in his mouth(they'd let them roam their farm land). Every fucking night like clock work. Even when we gave him a bowl with dog food, he'd prefer a rabbit, or other furry animal. When we took him to the vet they pulled about 40 ticks off him and groomed him, gave him the usual vaccines, checked for a chip, ect, but the vet was sure he was living on his own in the woods for a least 3-6 months. Bad ass. Its a shame he's gunshy...

I feel ya buddy. I took my kitty to the vet because he wasn't eating much and had lost some weight. The vet found a large tumor in him that was pressing against his stomach and restricting how much he can eat. The tumor is inoperable and I don't have much time left with my kitty.
