I'm looking at AK's currently for a number of uses, one of which being urban home defense. For this reason, a 7.62 would be a very, very bad idea. I was planning on a 5.45, but since they've stopped imports of 7n6 ammo, that's kinda fucked. What does /k/ think of 5.56 AK's? I know, "get an AR", but I want this thing to never break ever.

Why is 7.62 x39 bad for home defence?
>>34303150
Over penetration. A 7.62 would rip through an apartment building, from what I've been told.

>7.62x39
And 5.56 wont? Do some research before asking retarded questions.

Hollow points in either of them will overpenetrate less than a 9mm through interior walls.

Get a blow back 9mm carbine also it will never break
>>34303213
Bullshit.
>>34303128
Why not just get a shotgun with #4 Buckshot?

Proof.
For those of you wondering, here is a test some guy did a few years ago in drywall with various rounds
http://how-i-did-it.org/drywall/results.html
TL;DR 5.56 performed best to minimize overpenetration

5.45 is still readily available.
AK that use AR mags are garbage.
SLR-106s are finicky but generally can be repaired under warranty, I have a 106CR and I love it.
$40 mags might a be a turn off for your though.
