Yeah, used to wear them on deployment for months at a time, even carry some in the boot of my car.

Getting shot in the gut can be as bad as a shot to the lungs, its almost indefinite infection & immediate blood poisoning which cannot be treated by any form of in field first aid, even a shot to the lungs and you can valve it and survive for a while.

The plate should not come higher than 4 inches below the collar, maybe 6 if you're tall.

Any additional plate below that is wasted protection. and anything near your collar means they get snaped when the energy is disrtibuted which means your arms are gone, so you're out of the fight.

Realistically a properly worn plate (inside a spall bag & packed out with a soft armour layer) means that being hit by a 7.62 is recoverable from in about 5 minutes, providing there's no secondary injuries from the round fragmenting.

Any would can be fatal, but in terms of what's more likely to outright kill, lungs+heart > guts.

None of these things can be fully treated with field expedient care, that's why people get evacuated to medical centers. If you are so worried about any kind of hit, you switch up to a full armor vest and all the soft armor add on goodies.

I use the Advanced Warfighter Solutions plate carrier. I really like it, however their customer support is the worst that I have ever seen. I ordered the carrier, and it showed up 3 months later. No email conformation, just charged me when it shipped. The carrier I ordered was made for me, not one of their off the shelf ones.

This is because in CQB Tali's would run up to marines 10m and empty mags into people by aiming at the knees and letting the ak ride up.
