Slow, clumsy, poor payload.

>If we had them in Vietnam would it have effected the outcome of the war notably?

What's your major malfunction?
>>
It's a subsonic strictly A/G strike plane with only two internal hardpoints, and the fuselage design is a heavily outdated compromise that was made due to lack of computational ability at the time
And assuming it enters vietnam without PGMs, no
>>
1. The O&M costs were very high relative to the capabilities, and newer designs had a lower RCS.

2. That depends 100% on whether they had laser designators. Laser guided bombs existed during the Vietnam era, but they were a hideous PITA to use because of the enemy trying to shoot you down while you're trying to aim the thing. Having a stealth aircraft to put Paveways on specific targets would be very helpful.

From 1965 to 1968, the war in Vietnam was primarily a counterinsurgency and that's the period where the US public got sick of it. From 1969 to 1973, the VC was progressively blown the fuck out by US forces, which meant that the North Vietnamese needed to attack with conventional forces and the US could actually affect the battlefield via strategic bombing.

So an offensive like the Spring 1975 offensive that toppled Saigon might not have been possible with the US constantly cutting off the flow of war materiel to conventional forces.

TL;DR maybe

Very cool gif!

muslimturd is about to enter the thread to shit on the serbs that murdered members of his family, discuss the subject while you can

no
strategic bombing might work against industrial nations as we have seen in Japan and Germany,
but against a pretty much non industrial country that is supplied via neutral sovereign nations and hides in the jungle not so much
even the US knew this in Vietnam, but scaling down the bombing campaigns would be seen as giving in (even though they did back down in 68ish)
in the grander scheme of things operations like Rolling Thunder and Linebacker had some impact, but nowhere near the impact that US firepower on the ground in conventional combat
three years of Rolling Thunder, and still the Tet Offensive the operations later in 1968 had a much greater effect on NVA/Vietcong strength
also, a highly valuable top of the line stealth bomber is not worth risking being shot down and be reverse engineered by the Chinese and Russians

>1.) Why was it retired?
Because it was replaced by another black project.

>2.)
yes.

>but against a pretty much non industrial country that is supplied via neutral sovereign nations and hides in the jungle not so much

This was true for the first half of the war.

By the time the last US troops left, the North was actually quite vulnerable to strategic bombing campaigns

The Easter Offensive in 1973 was beaten back with more than a hundred thousand Northern KIA because of an overwhelming US air counteroffensive.

The VC were all dead, and a conventional war requires stuff to keep going.

Stuff requires fuel depots and ports, and trains.

We had PGMs in Nam. Early LGBs.

And no, the F-22 isn't much of a strike aircraft unless you're talking about denied environments.
>>
1) More than likely because the F-117 did pretty much the same thing the B-2 Spirit does except it was shittier at it. The B-2 has a smaller signature and carries more fuel and munitions.

2) I doubt it because the amount of munitions it can carry is pretty low. The only benefit would be getting in to hit radar/Sam sites or provide airstrike support without fear of interception.

Except that, you can only fly them at night. Because the Migs are heavy on dogfighting with their chainguns not just the missiles. If any of these could be spotted they would be tore up from the ass end.

We wouldnt have these planes in any sizeable number anyway, even if we had the tech it would've been more expensive to make them.

Answer is No, it wouldn't have affected the outcome of the war. It would have saved some pilots' lives but thats about it.
