I just picked up one of these XS Big Dot tritum sights. Super easy install, and I love the sight picture.
Who else likes to keep around a tactical shotgun?
>>34293163
>tactical
Fuck no, impractical is wheres it at.
>>34293185
I actually want a Shockwave mossberg. For Raisins.
I had a set of ghost ring sights on this one, but I found them to be too slow.
>>34293206
I wouldn't mind owning one with wood furniture. Great option for getting something stupid and not having to deal with a stamp.
>>34293163
bigdot confirmed good sight, plus a wep light, one of the best bead options in my experience

>tactical shotgun
I can see why you'd want one, and I'll respect that. I'm more of a classic guy though. I might get a leather stock saddle to hold shells though.
>>34293307
recently picked up a tlr-3 for the 590a1, plus SOE sidesaddles, bigdot, sgl stock, sbe precision aluminum follower, wolff mag spring
currently using an soe bungie sling, gun's just too heavy, could use a 2-point
I need sights for my UTS-15. What are some decent entry-level iron sights you guys suggest? There are sets out there on Amazon for 30 bucks and others for hundreds.
>>34293388
I keep a Mossberg 500 field around for bird hunting and skeet; I like the wood and steel look as well.
>>34293470
>UTS-15
I suggest any old wide aperture irons, then throwing out your gun and getting a new one to put those irons on. Of all the shottie bullpups, why did you get the worst one?

Magpul MBUS
>>34293408
I gave up on a sling for tactical shotguns, I run mine bare now.
I used a TRS-25 for a little while too.
Great for slugs, but too slow for spread shot.
best semi auto with a dbm?
The M4 is a slick scattergat, but damn, it costs too much--even an FN SLP or Remington Versamax is equally as good and about half the price
>>34293607
I'm really only interested in semiauto shotguns at the moment, so is the SLP worth checking out these days? I had no idea it even existed until recently when I was pricing out OEM M4 parts.
I sort of feel like I'll end up with the M4 anyway since benelliparts has both the OEM collapsible stock and 7 round mag tube.
>>34293696
The SLP is fantastic by all accounts, but I can't speak first hand.
I'd stay away from the model with a cantilevered rail coming off the barrel. It would limit your sighting options. The competition gets my thumbs up.

Also, I hate pistol grips on shotguns, tactical or not. Just my opinion.

>>34293185
Agreed.
>>34293581
What mount are you using for the light on your 20" 500?
I took the heatshield off mine so I could mount a tlr-1hl with a streamlight magtube mount. Not sure if I really care about keeping the heatshield on or not anyway but it would be good to have the option.
Anyone know where you can still get HSGI V1 shall cards? I'm not a fan of the full nylon ones.
>>34293163
I've got a slightly bubba'd Winchester 1897 Takedown Field Gun and I was wondering if its safe to put modern ammo like slugs through it
I remember the fudd looking fella that checked me out when I bought the shotgun told me to avoid using modern ammo or anything longer than 2 3/4 inches or something like that. So far I've only put 00 buck and federal ammunition bird shot through it.
The shotgun is pretty old (1912) and a fudd fucked it up the barrel a bit by cutting off like 5 inches, dumbass tried to turn a Field Gun into a Riot Gun, so the end of the barrel is a cunt hair uneven.

>>34296988
That would place the manufacture date between 1904 and 1905. I'd be careful with modern ammo since Winchester only started updating the 97 in the 30s. Does yours have a roll mark on the barrel with what shell sizes the gun can take? Either way, run light loads to avoid undue wear-n-tear.

>>34297090
Alright, what loads would you personally use?
>>34297137
There are myriads of light loaded 12g shells. Anything that explicitly says "Light" or "Low Power" loads should work good in older guns. Try and stick to 2 3/4 shells at the most.

just bought my first shotgun yesterday, already planning to put a collapsing AR-style buttstock on it.
i heard the mossberg brand one was good. anyone have any other suggestions?
>>34297963
>already planning to put a collapsing AR-style buttstock on it.
Don't, especially on a mossberg. It makes reaching the safety more difficult.
If you MUST put a stock on it, go with the Magpul. Personally, I like the factory stock and wouldn't change it.
>>34298066
interesting point, i was focused on the aesthetics of pic related
functionally i like shooting with a shorter stock on rifles. this feels unwieldy.
>>34298136
Yeah, that will make using the tang safety much more difficult. Stick with the standard style. The Magpul one has inserts that allow you to customize the LoP.

So are shotguns actually viable?
>>34298211
>So are shotguns actually viable?
Do they kill people? Yeah, for sure.
Have they been eclipsed by modern "tactical" carbines? Most certainly.
However, they're still fun, and cool, and nothing is as versatile when it comes to ammunition selection.
>>34298211
>So are shotguns actually viable?
Under no circumstance would I want to be on the wrong end of one, even in armor. I'd call that viable.
Also >>34298228
I'd rather carry a single shotgun into the woods with boxes of various shells rather than 2 or maybe even 3 different guns for different purposes.
>>34298228
>Fun
>Cool
Okay so that is good and all, but from a preppy/chimpout standpoint is there a reason to own one? If you're primary goal is just being well regulated and larping are you better off just putting money into your pistol/carbine setup and buying more ammo?
A2's SPAS pictured by the way.
>>34298182
thanks for the advice bro
>>34298260
Not every gun has to be a min/max uber practical purchase. I already have my practical carbine and pistol exactly where I want them, the shotgun is just for fun. And a little 3 gun.
I wouldn't feel underarmed if I found myself in a firefight with it, but I'd certainly prefer my AR if I had my druthers.
>>34298260
>>34298258
>I'd rather carry a single shotgun into the woods with boxes of various shells rather than 2 or maybe even 3 different guns for different purposes.
There's not a rifle in the world that's suitable for upland game/dove/duck hunting; but a shotgun can do that AND still blast big game with slugs. Not OPTIMALLY, but it is capable at least.
>>34296188
I've been having trouble getting a good quality card, nobody seems to have them in stock. I'm considering just getting my old nylon ones and gluing them to pieces of plastic.

each pellet of 00 buckshot is about the same size and has about the same energy as a single round of .32 acp.
a 12ga shell is the equivalent of a well controlled 9 round automatic burst of .32

You can get express loads that bring it to around a 9mm but at a pellet reduction.

>gee bill, why does your mom let you have 2 SPAS 12s?
Hiya, new to /k/ so I hope this isn't the wrong sort of thing to ask.
What are the chances of me finding a left-handed 12ga Wingmaster? I've only poked around online a bit, haven't tried any shows. Have seen some 20ga but no 12. I'd like to get a new gun for hunting (mostly ducks), and I prefer a traditional look to the black composite semi-auto death machines my younger cousins use. If a LH Wingmaster is a pipe dream, is there something else I should look at? I've shot an 870 for years and it's always done me right.
>>34305174
dont know regarding the wingmaster models
http://www.mossberg.com/category/series/500/500-hunting/
mossberg makes lefty versions of the 500, wooden stocks, screw-in chokes, etc
What are my options for sights on a gun that has a (presumably) welded front bead and some sort of obscure European dovetail that doesn't seem to fit anything? I see a lot of clamp on sights that look mixed, are any of those decent?
>>34306210
possibly have a smith drill & tap the receiver to accept a 1913, maybe have one welded on?
decent smith could do essentially anything you want as far as irons go
>>34306325
Sorta hoping to avoid modifying the gun in favor of keeping the warranty I'll probably never need but it an option I'm considering. It's a $150 gun so I'm not super stoked to spend almost as much adding rails to it.

>>34306463

any of you guys have any experience with Linberta shotguns? thinking about buying their m4 clone
Can someone post some aesthetic shotguns
Guys. Im new to guns, but gonna move to the US soon and wanna buy a home defense weapon.
Everytime I ask the AR/AK fags they tell me to buy a shotgun. Would the Mossberg 591A be a good choice?
Also, what shells are best for homedefense, if I dont want the pellets/slugs to go through walls?
Sould I cut down my shotgun to 18inches for better HD capabilities? Will I ruin it for hunting if I do? It is currently 26inches

>>34298136
I had one of these by a company called phoenix I think. I hated it. You could adjust it but none of the positions seemed right.
>>34298260

both the shotgun AND carbine can be employed effectively for home defense, no idea why they'd make that recommendation
>Would the Mossberg 590A1 be a good choice?
yeah quality pumpgun. own one, pic. my HD go-to. cliche to call the A1 reliable... but its reliable, big aftermarket for parts, etc. you probably already know this
>what shells are best for homedefense, if I dont want the pellets/slugs to go through walls?
at close range, even birdshot loads will pass through drywall.
#4 buckshot is, imo, the minimum load for personal defense-use in a 12ga.
high-velocity #4 loads will effectively pass through clothing and enough flesh to cause fatal wounds at any possible range within a home (the same cannot be said for many birdshot loads), these pellets will also be stopped more quickly by drywall & wooden studs than, say, 00 buck.
it takes significantly more to stop a slug. avoid slugs entirely if penetration is a pressing concern
does anybody make an 870 magazine extension that sits flush with or slightly past a 28" barrel?
>>34298228

>>34313933
Shells pointing down are the slugs, which will likely be loaded directly into the ejection port and are easier to load from that orientation.
The green shells pointing down are buck, which is what's in the tube, and would be used to top off the magazine through the loading port, so they are easier to load from that orientation.
>>34313933
>>34314745
>The green shells pointing down are buck

>>34314147
Thanks for the detailed answer. Thing is Im pretty sure Ill be moving to a cheap apartment in Los Angeles first. Most AR fags pointed out that if I shoot some guy trying to kill/rob me I might kill my neighbors if I start blasting away on a m1a or garand.
>>34316117
gotcha good luck
What load are you guys using? I've been using Zombiemax for a while now but I've been wanting to switch to something with a little bit of spread for home defense and I'm torn between Remington's 12 pellet 0 buck or trying Federal's 12 pellet 00 in 2.75". I'm also considering 1 buck but most 1 buck loads are either terribly inaccurate without heavy chokes or terribly accurate because of those Flitecontrol wads that make patters that are indistinguishable from slugs within 15 yards.
>>34318488
I like the Winchester 00 Buck 100% for aesthetic reasons; the OD green shells and matte black coated brass look sharp. It's also great ammo, I'm sure.

>>34318516

>>34318516
Winchester can make some good shit, I swear by their .410 000 buck loads but I'm not so convinced on anything outside of the Super X line. Their so called mil-spec ammo is literally the same thing as one of their other hunting focused loadings but in a green case. Of course, this sorta thing is super common and doesn't detract from the quality of the product itself but you're paying a little bit more for the color green. Than again it might be very advantageous to not wear flashy red shells, it's best to keep it muted and natural.
