Before the end of the month, China will launch the lead ship of the Type 055 cruiser (NATO: Renhai-class).
This 12k ton monster with 128 large caliber VLS (plus 24 cell HHQ-10 PDMS) is better armed and more powerful than any ship the West possesses, as every single of its 850mm VLS are capable of launching long range supersonic anti ship missiles, as well as near space cruising ultra long range SAM that can shoot down US E-2Ds from 800km range.

There are 5 more of them under construction in 2 yards, and the second ship will launch by the end of this year.

While the US Navy crashes against Philippino tankers and drown its sailors and captains, the Chinese Navy is in the process of building a fleet of super battlecruisers.

The first two ships about two month ago.

The second ship in pic was assembling. It should also launch soon.

The lead ship could be named "Nanjing", serving the East Sea Fleet and will spread fear and terror to the Japanese.

a hit to the front VLS block will be magnificent to witness

It has both long range S-band AESA of the 3rd generation (052C and D were 1st and 2nd respectively), as well as high rate high accuracy X-band AESAs on its integrated mast.
As such, the 055 already leapfrogged the USN in having an AMDR equivalent capability.
>>
>>34290311
Oh boy, the cruiser-gap whining will get new fuel.
>>
>>34290311

cute
>>
I bet the gooks were able to save a lot of money building those things by using unskilled labour and substituting cheaper materials. Always a good idea.
>>
>>34290487
Spending more doesn't get you quality
>>
>>34290494
You don't always get what you pay for.

But you never get more than what you pay for.
>>
>>34290516
That ain't true, there is room for vast improvement at lower cost in any government contractor, or at least most.

The US deliberately overpays in ship building to keep shipyards open
And all of them are in black areas so you gotta imagine theres a lot of affirmative action going on
>>
>>34290311

how many dead Filipinos did this one take to make?
>>
I remember I was on /k/ 6 years ago and US anons would do nothing but shot on the capability of PLAN surface vessels, that doesn't seem to be the case these days but rather we get comments along the lines of this >>34290390

I would honestly debate the actual survivability and application of any ship in the Chinese arsenal considering the absolute lack of field experience in any Chinese naval commander and the untested mettle of their forces. They're a nation that encompasses 200 different dialects and five dialectical groups. Sounds like a logistics nightmare if you ask me.

So, yes. I stand by my statement. It's cute.
>>
>>34290340
Looks like the machinery spaces aren't subdivided. A single acoustic heavyweight torpedo will kill the ship.
>>
>>34290520
Generally, government overpaying is to make sure the job gets done RIGHT, even if it's at a 20% premium. Corner cutting is a thing in all major industries.
>>
>>34290569
A post I saw before said that those were essentially railings for people crossing the side of a bridge. Foam core is to reduce weight and support the concrete shell's volume.
>>
>>34290570
nation is not a synonym for country
China is not a "nation" and neither is America
>>
>>34290590

Okay, watch this, you are little babby.

So, yes, I still stand by my statement, it's still cute.
>>
>>34290520
As someone who is on a ship that spent 4 years in the yards, I assure you that the men and women who work in the shipyards do a good job, and do their best. They may get paid a good bit, but they do a damned good job(except the cleaner/painter guys, they all suck).

Boy, do you have a surprise in store for you in Africa, Chong.
>>
>>34290605
>They're a country that encompasses 200 different dialects and five dialectical groups.

But Han Mandarin covers 95% of it.
>>
>>34290723

Yet Hong Kong, Hangzhou, and Bejing inhabit three different dialectically different locations?

I understand that urbanization will fix and right these issues, but there's still an issue with the historical situation that China inhabits. If China doesn't have an enemy to focus on, it tends to cannibalize itself.
>>
>>34290351
Do you actually know what any of these words mean? Could you explain to me the difference between different AESA generations? Or how having a similar suite to the Gerald Ford makes it skip AMDR, a much more ambitious project than putting a S band and X band radar on the same ship?
>>
>>34290723
Well 60%. And while they are mutually intelligible, all the dialects represent distinct cultures and behaviors. Doesn't make for the most united country.
>>
>>34290657
Its not being an SJW, have you ever been to a shipyard? Have you served on a ship in the yards? Have you seen the work these folks do? To be fair, most of the painters and cleaners are the lower tier blacks and whites, and that trade does mostly suck(sleeping/drunk on the job). However, the mechanical and electrical trades, those guys do a great job.
>>
>>34290555
Can't end worse than the Burke.
>>
The 055 cruiser and the future submersible high speed arsenal ship are the most important Chinese naval developments. Who cares about carriers.
>>
>>34290835
So is there a reason why they are not just making an SSGN?
>>
>>34290835

cute
>>
>>34290835
According to insider leaks, it is already under construction. It's designation is Type 9XX search and attack submersible combat platform.

>>34290898
SSGNs need to be built to submarine standards, which limits it's VLS payload capacity.
For a missile cruiser whose submersible capability is just a anti missile defensive and radar stealth tactic, it doesn't need to be able to dive deep and thus doesn't require a submarine hull.
It's basically a 20k ton CG that can dive shallow in an emergency, but will cruise at high speed with hydroplanes while surfaced.

Pretty much same concept as the French SMX-25. Only larger.

Rather a modern missile armed Le Surcouf.
>>
>>34290928
100 years of progress, and we're back to dive boats with massive surface armament.

Fuck me.
>>
>>34290991
Yes, since the emergency would be a large saturational volley of LRASM coming it's way.

The odd P-8 that thinks it is hunting an ordinary submarine that has no long range air defense will find yourself facing with an 200+ VLS armed missile cruiser equipped with AESA and shit.
>>
>>34291044
It can dive or it can shoot back, not both. A long range ASROC would kill it easily, that or a lurking attack boat.
>>
>>34291035
Narwhal 2.0 when. Fuck up Somali pirates with 155mm guns.
>>
>>34291044

Uh, something about a 20k object dancing in the littoral presenting a normal profile for a submarine doesn't sound right.
>>
>>34291082
Which ASROC has 400km range?

And even if, it can also semi submerge, leaving just its radar mast exposed to attack incoming ASROC and MPAs.
>>
>>34291116
It do any need to be silent. Its main attack weapons are it's long range missiles. It doesn't need to sneak close to the carrier group it attacks.

Of course, having SSN escorts would make it more survivable, but that's with any other surface combattant as well.
>>
>>34291082
It could shoot back, then dive. If they are going at sufficiently high speed diving dynamically takes just a few seconds.
>>
>>34291122

That's completely irrelevant to what I just said, but I'm sure you're aware of that.
>>
>>34291134
Then it loses the chance to make mid course corrections.

>>34291118
Magic boat, magic missile.
>>
>>34291118

So what's the radar horizon for that then? And that assumes good weather to be useful.
>>
>>34291156
Pretty shit, given how low in the water that hullform seems to need to be
>>
>>34291156
>>34291161
Only way I see this working is that the arsenal ship has a spotter of some kind. Of course this begs the question why the spotter isn't just shooting while the arsenal ship hides.
>>
>>34291177
Spotter would be a low-visibility UAV.

Or a motherfucking floatplane, giving we're recycling last century's idea anyway.
>>
>>34291177
The idea in such cases is usually that the spotter is more survivable or expendable. Take 10 Global Hawk class UAVs, fit them iut with the best countermeasures (EW, ECM, DIRCM, and other esoteric acronyms) available, and send them hunting. Chances are, one will survive long enough to guide the missiles from a hidden arsenal ship to target.
>>
>>34291208
>floatplane

>>

Well the P-3 can just shoot the arsenal ship's missiles down with its laser anti-missile system. Not that big of a problem.

If we're thinking along those lines just scrapped the cruiser aspect. We're now talking about a submarine that has a larger VLS and hanger, or maybe a launched VLS drone since we're being wacky.

Drone (assume hanger version) would be a sling launched one with nothing special inside excluding a few RCS features.
>>
>>34291272
>or maybe a launched VLS drone since we're being wacky.

Those already exist on the Virginias.
>>
>>34290340
Please baby jesus please do concoct some slant-on-slant large scale war making. The world has been denied this for too long.

Can you even imagine the entertainment value of this in a modern world where live video can be instantly streamed to billions? The pure strength of will and total absence of individual concern that would be on display if the Nip-Chong cultures were pitted against one another would be fucking amazing.

You might think the Nips have had that bred out of them, but in true Azn style they've just been suppressing it. While Chong supercruisers emptied VLS after VLS into their cities, turning their friends and families into cinders, Nip soldier hidden in a bunker deep under a volcano would steer their army of samurai robots across mainland China, bashing dirt farming peasants limb from limb with roundhouse kicks, then piling the dismembered corpses so high they can been seen from space, before setting them ablaze so their bones can't be properly interred.
>>
>>34291234
Sheeeeeit, I meant the Avenger. You are correct, throwing away Global Hawks would be pants-on-head retarded, while the Avenger is also slightly stealthy whoch aids survivability.

You factor in the expended cost of a strike vs expected benefit- 10 drones and 200 missiles vs. A few critical hits on a CBG, in theory.
