Someone talk my dumb ass out of buying an AUG. I want one so bad.

I don't like the Tavor, at all, and I want a solid Bullpup. Wat do.
>>
>>34289294
Buy an AUG.
They're sexy as fuck, have excellent ergos, and satisfy the need for a bull pup.
>>
Dont buy an AUG OP, you dont really want one.
If you actually wanted to buy one, you wouldn't have made this thread.
>>
>>34289304
I do, I just don't wanna spend $1,800+ on a 5.56 chambered firearm when an AR will do about the same thing.

But I DO want to buy one because they're so fuckin cool!

Why though? I mean if you want the honest truth here it is.

Complaints:
>1) $1600 and Steyr spends pennies to make one of the worst charging handles you'll ever feel
>2) No irons
>3) 16" on the AUG ain't that cute and is kind of loud
>4) Proprietary mags, but they aren't necessarily bad, just means a one use mag (sure you can get a NATO stock if you're gay).
>5) Lack of a brass deflector means you have to either accept stock marks or invest in a $10-30 pad/clip on plastic piece.

Any questions?
>>
>>34289349
Controlability under sustained, fast paced fire, trigger feel, and amount of after market parts available for customization, and most importantly back pressure?

The only Bullpup I've ever shot was a 1st gen Tavor, and the back-pressure was so horrendous that I couldn't make it through a full mag before the ammonia started to make my eyes water too much to see.

I can deal with the mag thing, buy one every now and then to stock up. The shell deflector is annoying, but a deal breaker, noise is a non-factor.
>>
>>34289370
Gas is alright, nothing that noticeable to me. Would likely be better if I had the 20" barrel, which I may get.
>>
>>34289401
I was thinking about the 20" anyways, and probably changing the muzzle device out for something different (Maybe a little shorter, factory flash hider seems long as fuck.)

What about the trigger?
>>
>>34289401
Call Pete Athens, he sells the models with the 20'' barrels.

I already own one mate. I'll probably be buying a barrel.

Do it. It is the only bullpup I would not regret buying.

I've got one. The stock marks thing is true, but I just stuck a piece of Gorilla tape on there and it'll never come off and absorbs all the damage. The vertical foregrip directly mounted on the quick-change barrel thing sucks, might not matter as much if you don't compete with it, but when you press it up against cover and "load" it with forward pressure, it throws your POI off by FEET. Sobering moment for me as a free float only baby. Some insist their AUGs don't do this, but AUG owners aren't the type who shoot their guns generally - you never hear about the stock marks thing either.

It's gorgeous and the mags are great and the quick change barrel is awesome. The normal & adverse gas adjustment is executed ok but gums up after lots of steel cased down the pipe it seems like.

You want the extended rail model.
>>
Oh, and mine choked on steel, even on "adverse' for the first 200 rounds or so. After that, completely reliable in every respect even on normal, with any ammo. Breaking in a barrel is still a myth but something that moves in this thing obviously broke in and reduced the friction in the action a lot during the "break-in period."
>>
>>34289514
>You want the extended rail model.
Are you talking about the AUG A3 with just the long optic rail or the AUG A3-CQC with the quad rail like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmOGVANph5o
>>
>>34289294
Former NZ armyfag here, they gum up quick and have a spongy trigger. Apart from that it's fine, just an overpriced semi .223 for tactical retards to waste their money on.
>>
>>34289294
Vertical grips are shitty. Don't waste money on an AUG.
The only real usefullness of a bullpup rifle is if you use a rifle in vehicle.
>>
>>34289330
If you've paid off your mortgage and have a steady trade go for it. If not you're a failure at life and buying this will make you more of a failure.

when are the new shitposter AUGs due?
>>
>>34289551
>usefulness

Matters not one iota on a civilian rifle. If you want it, and can afford it, buy it, 'Murrica.
>>
>>34289525
the long optic rail (not to be confused with the marginally longer "high rail"

The quad rail one looks dumb and probably balances like shit.
>>
>>34289330
>I want a high class escort
>"Blacktop" Quandranisha will do just as good
>>
>>34289294
they look like they were designed by insect people.
>>
>>34289370
Handles well but nothing an AR can't do, gas parts are a bitch to clean, the triggers are shit (too much pull and lbs), can't customise much apart from optics, not many aftermarket parts either, old Styers have perm shitty 1.5x optics, entirely plastic lower end including trigger, solid stock (not adjustable). The only thing they're really good for is cqc but that's what a sidearm is for.
They are relatively reliable though.
>>
>>34289842
Also has more recoil than an AR due to the lack of space in the butt for springs, it's got some smaller double spring and rod set up.
>>
>>34289851
You are talking out of your ass my son. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rN8-Uelm25s. The AUG has amazing balance and controlability. Shoot the gun before you make such dubious claims.
>>
>>34289349
Hmm. If you really think about it, the AUG is the Glock of bullpups. It's very simple, lacking in bells and whistles, a higher price than the quality deserves, and it's even fucking Austrian.

I'd rather get an RDB if I wanted a 5.56 bullpup. 80's designed and bullpups don't mix, the point of a bullpup is it's supposed to be modern and have top quality features.

There's also the prospective MDR and MSBS bullpups to hope for.
>>
>>34289860
I've put thousands of rounds through it and it's a piece of shit

>>
>>34289881
Well you don't exactly get a choice in the military. My AR14 will out shoot the shitty A1s we have any day. Maybe the later models are better, but I've grown to hate the rifle
>>
>>34289551
Do you think when SHTF we're all just going to be walking around on our feet or riding donkeys? What about when we still all have fuel and have to get out of dodge? Or any time after when we come across a vehicle? You want to get caught in a roadblock with your 4 foot long grandpa gun? What if you're taking shelter in an old building or house and it's comes down to CQB?

Vehicles and buildings are a part of everyday life. Thinking you'll never be in a situation where your rifle meets a vehicle/small space isn'tthinking very hard.

It doesn't take a genius to recognise a typo.
>>
>>34289294
I put money down on one because there's really no other bullpup I'm interested in besides the AUG and the FS2000, and the AUG was in stock. That's the whole reason I bought one. I really want one and it was easy to buy.

Here's what you need to figure out: do you want to spend money on what you want or on what somebody else told you to want? You want an AUG? Buy an AUG. You're going to spend at least $1800 no matter what bullpup you buy, so that's really a non-factor.
