I want to buy a sword or some sort of similar weapon here in Switzerland.
What's a good way of getting a quality blade? I saw a website of a guy that is a swordsmith, is it a safe bet? How do I check if it's a good sword or not?
I kinda like the gladius.

Gladius would be a good choice, can slash and stab very effectively. A strong stab will break through any armor that a street muharib might have.

Albion makes several variants of the Gladius, and they are nice swords.
Windlass out of India make one good version- the Pompeii Gladius. It's historically accurate (for the price) and tough.
I'm sure there are some great Eastern Euro swordsmiths who could do it, but I don't have a lot of familiarity with them.
You'll also want someone to make a decent scabbard for it, so keep that in mind when you price out your options.

No swiss smith makes decent swords, we usually order from one of the eastern European makers.
Alternatively, swiss army surplus sabers are excellent quality and have a very fair price tag. You'll find those on Ricardo.
