I totally did. Saw it when it first came out and figured it was a part where you were suppose to suspend your disbelief / movie magic. Tom Hanks kills the big boss with a one in a million shot and right as he does the cavalry (plane) arrives so Private Ryan is safe.

I went and rewatched the clip and yeah it was totally the plane. Seriously there's quite a few of us that thought this. I'm going to ask everyone at work now how the tank at the end of the movie was stopped to see how wide spread this is.
