Hey /k/ my great grandfather recently just passed and I inherited an old rifle from him. Unlike some other family members I don't plan on selling it, so I was curious if you could enlighten me on the info of the gun and how to take care of it. I believe it's a Mauser 8mm rifle but that's all I can tell from it. What's the history of this gun? How often should I clean it? Basically what steps can I take to make sure this relic survives and I keep my Grandfather's legacy strong. Thanks for the help!
>>
Looks like a Czech vz24 Mauser. Clean it after you shoot it. Depending on how you store it and where you live check for rust.

Nice rifle, nothing too special but will probably shoot well.

I can't answer the other questions cause I'm pretty newfaggy but I commend you for not pawning off your grandpa's guns for a few bucks

Try handing the camera to somebody who doesn't have Parkinson's and tell them to take a picture of all the markings on the top of the gun.

You can see the state of the rifle in the disk

Another pic! Thanks for the info so far. I will be storing it in my closet. Is this the markings you are referring to? I'm currently at work so I only have the pics I took last night

It's not Czech or German. It's a Swedish M38 Mauser likely made by Carl Gustavs (read the top of the receiver). It's chambered in 6.5x55 Swedish It used to be a longer M96 rifle, but it was converted by the military arsenal to the shorter length. These are colloquially known as M38/96 rifles.

Superbly accurate guns with very mild recoil. My absolute favorite of all the millsurp. They're going up in value too because people are starting to realize how good they are.

I know quite a lot about them. Any other questions?
>>
Okay sure when I manage to get home I'll take a look at the disk. Thanks for the help guys

Disregard my other comment. it's not Swedish. I was confused because of the Swedish stock disk.

Lurk more ya faggot
>>
>>34283411
It literally says Vz.24 on the side of the reciver. Your great grandfather probably just picked it up at a Sears And Roebucks for $50 back in the day.

Czechoslovak Model (Vzor) 1924 short rifle, made at Czechoslovak Arsenal (Cheskoslovenska Zbojovka) in the city of Brno.

>>34283427
It's not a Swedish stock disc; it's a general unit marking disc as used by the Germans, Czechs, Finns, Brits etc.
>>

"Overslag"

Is that not Swedish?

>Vz.24 with Swedish stock disc

>Is that not Swedish?
It is Swedish, but it's a picture off Google, not from OP's rifle. The discs on Swedish Mausers are not unit marking discs, but used to indicate the bore's groove diameter, hold-over for the m/41 ball cartridge, and condition of the rifle's bore.
>>
>>34283906
That picture of the stock disc is clearly not from the OP rifle. It is a vz24. End of story.

>>34283377
Jesus Christ this is retarded. That's a fucking VZ24, not a Swedish Mauser. Pretty much all VZ24s had a stock ID disk, the rest were made by Germans and will have bolt disassembly disks like a K98k has.
