I've just graduated and at the party I got about $500 ( God bless rich white family) and I want to buy a gun. What's the best for my first firearm?
I guess this is a first gun thread. Post your first gun.l you've ever owned.

I didn't grow up around them like most and I'm ashamed to admit the first time I shot a gun was only last July on the 4th. It was a judge revolver if anyone was curious.

Get an AR-15. This Ruger rifle is $449.99
http://palmettostatearmory.com/ruger-16-ar15-5-56-adjustable-rapid-deploy-rear-sight-rifle-8500.html

first gun was a Sig 522. Pic related although i just grabbed that pic from google. It cost me like $600 and I regret it to this day. I should have either bought a Ruger 10/22 at like ~$225 or a real AR-15
>>
>>34283008
If you want a rifle go for either an AR(they're just so fucking cheap right now) or a 10/22.

If you want a handgun and are serious about becoming a proficient pistol shot get a .22lr. My preference would be for a revolver so that you can master single and double action trigger, but you're probably not going to get one new for $500. Either way I'd go Ruger. A MK IV if semi-auto and a 4" SP101 in .22lr if revolver.

Buy a shotgun. Shotguns are fun.

I second this! I bought a heavy as fuck H&R pardner pump at Gander for 100$ used. It has a chopped barrel and it's literally a tank. The damn thing is a blast to shoot. I can honestly say that I don't have as much fun with any of my other guns as I do with my pumpy.

First gun was pic related
shout out to pops for hooking me up for the 16th birthday

Listen to this guy, OP. ARs are cheap right now but that won't last forever. Buy one and a bunch of mags now while vendors are trying to sell off warehouses full of ARs they stockpiled thinking Hilldog would win. July 4th sales are right around the corner too, but jump on that AR now.
>>
>>34283008
Palmetto State Armory has great deals on AR-15s, a bone-standard AR is an excellent choice for a first gun. Get a CMMG conversion kit and shoot .22LR out of it, for 1/5 the price of 5.56. Keep the 5.56 bolt carrier group around for more serious use or for longer-range practice.

its hard to go wrong with a decent .22
ruger 10/22 was my first, low recoil, cheapish ammo, large market for parts options
a 9mm handgun would also be a good option imo, used glock 19, or one of the canik handguns maybe
>>
>>34283119
Does shooting and training with a .22lr pistol actually help with proficiency?

I guess the argument for it would be due to the lower recoil, you can better fight the bad anticipation habits that you would normally develop with any larger calibers

OP listen to all these niggers. Unless you live in a cucked state like me, theres literally no reason not to buy an AR immediately.
Get a 20inch barrel full length gas for maximum fun.

>>
>>34283215
What makes full length better than carbine?
>>
>>34283041
The AR is the danecook of rifles. It also fires a pussy round.

Save your money and get an M14
>>
>>34283215
I live in MN. Not the most cucked but still.
>>
>>34283212

Absolutely. Proficiency comes from repetition. Unless you are wealthy there is no other round that will allow you to shoot more for less than .22lr. Also low recoil is beneficial in helping you develop your fundamentals while avoiding flinching.

in addition to a cheap AR-15 also buy a red dot + mags combo from PSA. This one is out of stock right now but it seems to be on sale every other weekend.

The Vortex Sparc AR retails for $199 by itself. You might be able to find this sight $20-30 bucks cheaper on another site, but this deal will get you 10 - 30rd Gen 2 Pmags in addition to the scope for the price of $199. Just sign up for their email list and wait for the deals to come to you

Folding stock AK? Good choice for a first gun. not much can go wrong. easy to use, easy to clean, cheap mags and accessories, cheap and available ammo, and prices are pretty competitive with ARs.
>>
>>34283212
it can help for practicing general shooting fundamentals like maintaining proper sight picture, trigger pull, etc
>>
>>34283123
this. mossy 500 was my first gun.
>>
>>34283008
My first was a mosin.

I recommend a maverick 88 or some other cheap 12 gauge. Big bangs for small bucks.
>>
>>34283247
>>34283280

Well shit, now I want a .22lr pistol.

Time to do more research

Get one of the threaded versions of the Ruger MK IV. Then on down the line get a suppressor for it. Hard to have more fun with your clothes on than shooting suppressed .22lr.
>>
>>34283008
Just bought a Remington .270 model 7600 for 400$ came with scope, case, 2 magazines and some ammo. Rifle is 7 years old. Scope is nothing special.
>>
>>34283428
Just be aware Ruger JUST recalled all Mark IVs. Apparently if you pull the trigger when the safety is between positions, the gun can fire when you put the safety on fire.

I've never had that happen with mine, but then again I'm not a retard that fucks up using a safety, and I observe the four rules so even if it did happen I'd be ok. I will be sending mine in though since they only need the grip (the non serialized part) and they'll give you a free mag.

I got $900 in 2003 and I considered myself poor. But hey, if you're happy I'm happy.
>>
Get a ruger ar, then a mossy 500. Then when you hit 21 buy a gp100 in 357.
>>
>>34283041
Is it possible to still buy this in commiefornia?
>>
>>34283505
Gun is solid. Recall was more to protect Ruger from lawsuits by idiots than a dangerous mechanical fault imo. If I was buying one I'd make sure it had the revisions though in case I wanted to sell it later on.
>>
>>34283672

Not at that price id imagine.

I'm the anon that posted the PSA links and I also live in CA. I bought all my rifles before the new passed legislation.

Here is a beautiful CA complaint full AR at the low price of $650 + whatever transfer fee your FFL charges (mine was $50 + $25 more for DROS - Central Coast) I haven't bought a gun through an FFL since 2014 though and not sure on current transfer fees and process.
https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/2084_1153_1797/products_id/34858/RUGER+8510+AR556+223+16+HERA+STK+10R+*CA

If I were you I would buy a rifle kit from PSA and get a stripped lower. Either through an FFL or 80% if you can get your hands on a drill (preferably drill press) and a router. I have a few rifles I made from 80% lowers. I comply with the older laws of bullet buttons and 10rd mags because of the shooting ranges around me. If i had, or knew, someone with private land I wouldn't though. If you didn't already know CA passed a law that makes bullet buttons illegal as well as normal stocks, muzzle devices, detachable magazines. You either have to register or make your rifle compliant which is the buds abomination i linked above. The law isn't going into full effect until either Jan 2018 (original date) or July 2018 (what I've heard since CA DOJ can't get their shit together and registration site wasn't functional for like half the year.)

Here is a lower from buds that says is CA compliant

Longer range and more consistent ballistic data (if it's milspec). I also like the abililty to LARP and make it an M16A4 clone, but hey that's just me.
