Would it be legal to own an AR15 platform in Australia with no gas tube/system?
>>
>>34282382
So it'd be a straight pull kinda action? If so it has potential to be legal
>>
Well removing the gas tube takes away its semi-automatic capability. You would have to pull the charging handle to chamber a new round.
>>
>>34282382
In QLD that's a Cat D firearm, so yeah you could have one but you'd have to have an occupational reason like animal culling. Recreation and sporting won't cut it as a reason to have one.

If you can make it happen. Make the highest priority the caliber. Perferably .308
If youre going to carry a bolt action rifle. Atleast carry a round that can kill effectively
>>

Even without the gas system, it still has the appearance of the proper AR15

>(1) Each of the following is a category D weapon—
>a) a self-loading centre-fire rifle designed or adapted for military purposes or a firearm that substantially duplicates a rifle of that type in design, function or appearance;
>>

Lantac makes the LA-R15 Raven and there's the Warwick WFA, which is basically it
Depending on where you are, there's certain licences for them
>>
>Would it be legal to own an AR15 platform in Australia with no gas tube/system?
It really depends which way the wind is blowing and/or if the media is paying attention.

Firearms Licence https://archive.is/YbGP5

It most likely would come under category A or B in nsw

Did he say that lol?

Sorry bit young was born near the end of his run.

No it would be a Cat B firearm most likely.

Provided originally manufactured that way.

Qpol has never enforced the appearance clause in Cat D very harshly and when they have tried they have generally been slapped down by the courts.

The only case they were successful with the substantial duplicates clause was against people with Cat H Steyr AUGs. Primarily because they were straight up Steyr Augs and thus rifles.

AR derivative pistols for example are Qld legal on a Cat H as are AAA SAPs etc.

Appearance clause in NSW is brutal, it would be a prohibited weapon there.

>>34282382
If you want an AR derivative platform in Aus without a Cat D then your best bet is to move to one of the less shit states and get a Franklin Armoury F17 ( Cat C .17 WSM) under a collectors license (you need a primary producer or pest controller to import it for you, but this is really a matter of money). Or you get a Cat H and an AR derivative pistol that is locally made, get ready to fork out some serious cash though, talking just under $7000 for one of those.

In some States (WA) you can have a fully functional AR under a collectors license (cant import so have to buy locally).

In others (QLD) an instructors license lets you have a Cat D (cant import so have to buy locally)

Other States are a bit easier with the requirements for a vertebrate pest control business then others, NSW is probs the easiest for this at present. You can import under this license as well.

I dream of running a kangaroo/wallaby management business, but I will never live outside the US. I never imagined that was a loophole.
