I believe this issue is compounded by the fact that soldiers don't actually get side arms. If I had just the xm25 with me, I'd feel a little naked if I was by myself. People who get speciality weapons like the should have side arms.

Yeah, as far as I'm aware SAW gunners get sidearms wherever possible, so I see no reason why an XM25 gunner shouldn't.

I'm civilian as fuck, so what do I know, but it does seem that the west is falling behind in squad based firepower just because the XM25 is too heavy.
