>Air droppable anti air platform
Is this even useful? At what point would you even use this? Why not just buy Chinese equivalent?

while air superiority is almost guaranteed to America's operations, for all other countries it's less of something you can count on. an airborne insertion of ground forces may have air superiority when it arrives, but not later. plus, fighters can't respond to an attack by a helicopter as fast as ground forces.

How is an air-mobile spaag not useful?

>At what point would you even use this?
At a point when you need to set up a FOB in the middle of some TowelHeadstan. Deploy this things by transport aviation on some abandoned military airbase or civilian airport and and they will protect perimeter while you turning this shithole into decent military object.

But why?

Because I can't trust them to properly build a damn escalator, much less an AA Platform.
why is russia so obsessed with airborne ops when they haven't ever conducted a successful or decisive airborne op? Like the VDV is considered some big deal with all this special air-dropped tech yet its never done jackshit besides get blown up by chechens and afghans while acting as light infantry
>>34279613
at least they had better KD
>>34279613
the VDV isn't primarily an offensive force, it's a defensive force. russia is the largest country on earth, so rapid long-distance deployment for forces is important to them.
>>34279613
Because Russia is a vast country and in case of attack it will be deploy additional troops via transport aviation than through railroad network. It's not about parachutes anymore, it's about redeployment on airbases. And helicopters too, btw.

Why can't Russia just have an efficient and small country like China?
>>34280735
china and efficiency go like liberals and gun rights
>>34280735
Because geography
>>34279613
That's simply not true. VDV have done a lot of good shit. Basically any modern Soviet/Russian infantry success was VDV.

>Civilian flight lands
>"Hey who you?!"
>They pull out guns and take us all hostage
>One hour later there's an entire mechanized brigade or even two, with artillery and tanks, raiding my airport and surrounding areas
>Oy blyat
It's like a more rapidly deploying, heavier armed and more numerous Rangers Regiment. What's not to like?
Soviets and Russians like it for same reason Africans like paratroopers. While in Africa there's too many jungles and lack of infrastructure to properly force project with ground forces, the soviets simply had too much land to properly project their force via ground units, even with alright infrastructure. That's why they took their best men, gave them specially designed heavy gear and packed them all into huge planes .
