If you want to forever lust after something you will never have there are pictures floating around in the dusty corners of the internet of arsenal built Mosin Nagants chambered in 7.62x39 with shortened actions and altered magazine assemblies. Apparently a handful were assembled when the cartridge was being tested with the possible idea of using them as an interim weapon till the SKS and AK took off but someone canned the idea and they remained as anomalies. They have fairly obviously cut and rewelded actions, magazine boxes, and bolts.
If I can find the pictures of them I will shit them all over this board.

A full auto black powder gun did exist, courtesy of our lord and savior, John Moses Browning.
According to what I've run across JMB and his brothers were out shooting and observed a man firing from the prone position in somewhat tall grass and JMB noticed the grass being swept aside each time the man fired. Apparently he went back to his workshop and soon produced a mechanism to test how much force said gas could exert and built a full auto version of an 1873 Winchester in the process.

It would be easy to duplicate if you didn't mind the ATF blasting your dog and every dog in town into dust.

trigger bar to an offset firing pin/sear mech, the magazine would have to funnel over to one side to make room for the fcg though. it would be dumb, and if they just lengthened the rear of the frame slightly, the gun could retain both a normal fcg/fp arrangement, and use double stack mags effectively. i would also suggest a gas delayed blowback mech like the H&Kp7 or something similar to negate the need for a booster on the suppressor

some magazine conversions have the mag or drum way out in front, like this.

Man, I never noticed how far back the port was.

The only way I can see it working is some sort of blow-forward system. How the shell gets back to the action is anybody's guess, maybe some sort of cam- or gear-driven system? Ian would fucking love taking one of these apart if it were real.

This is sort of OT but my headcanon for FO4's weird weapons is that all of the good high-tech stuff has been sent to the front lines, and the guns we get are cheaper substitutes designed to be built by poorly-equipped shops out of non-strategic materials and issued to rear echelon units.

Not really. It's a scaled down garand action supposedly based on the m14. What you'd want is a m1 carbine... With a scaled-up-scaled-down garand action.

Regardless an m1 scaled up to 7.62x39 would be a VERY similar gun to a ruger mini-30.
>>
>>34279109
Well the first thing I ever wanted turned out to already exist, and that was a Lee-Enfield in .308. Ishapore 2A1 took care of that for me.

The next thing I want is a modern production top-break revolver, preferably in .357 Magnum, but really I would accept just about any other rimmed cartridge like .454 Casull and .45 LC; I just don't want to use moon clips.

Next, I'd like a break-action triple rifle in .45-70.

... I think just about all the other retard guns I want exist for me already.

Jump on that before someone else does. There's a market for guns like this, some new, different. Finally.

Don't get me wrong, modern firearms are fun and functional. But they're all slowly starting to look the same.

Do the thing, make a few designs, patent the working prototypes, and cloud source your funds if you can't get a loan.

In theory it probably wouldn't be that hard to adapt a Remington 760/7600 to x39 and AK mags. It's already a mag-fed pump action that looks very similar to a classic pump shotgun and comes chambered for a rimless .30 cartridge, so it's not that far off. I doubt it's something you could do in a garage, but a good smith could do it and Remington could certainly offer it as a factory option if so inclined.

you know OP, there's no reason you couldn't build out a 5.56 mosin if you don't mind spending some money on the work req'd. you'd need a new bolt head made up with an extended extractor, or what I'd actually try to do is just use off-the shelf AR bolt components wherever possible rather then trying to re-work the existing extractor. S7 tool steel would be a very good choice for the new bolt head. then you need a new barrel which is reasonably doable, there's plenty of manufacturers who will do a fairly inexpensive button rifled blank turned to whatever custom contour you need. any decent gunsmith can manage a barrel swap, hell I do them in my basement with action wrenches I make up myself from scrap metal from work. the magazine is a little tricky, I would start with an existing 5 round mag of some variety which should be small enough to fit inside the magwell, then machine an aluminium block that will fill in all the space around it and hold it in position. you'll need to cut off the original follower assembly to make room, and depending on how you do it, you might need some screws coming in from the sides to hold it all together, use countersunk screws hidden under the stock, shouldn't be an issue. good luck getting it to feed from a stripper clip though, maybe you could make it play nice with the top of your off-the-shelf mag, not sure. Anyway, if you really want to do it, you'd probably be looking at $1.5k to $2k to make it happen, assuming you're not doing the smithing work yourself. so yeah, DOABLE, but as you so eloquently put it, retarded. that said, who am I to judge? I'm currently putting together a 3x unertl scoped Swiss Vetterli carbine DMR...thing. it's gonna be late 1800's tacticool. you guys are gonna hate it
>>
>>34293486
>I have no fucking clue how this thing is supposed to cycle
Looking at the shape, I guess it would be something like this:
>that thing near the muzzle is a gas block
>pressure gets redirected towards the shell that is in line with a channel ending roughly under the ejection port
>the shell gets literally shot out of the drum and sent at the back where a raiser is located
>when the shell is on the raiser, pressure has built in the frontal grip section where gas is once again tapped to cycle the barrel forward
>the barrel while cycling forward operates the drum that advances one step
>when the barrel is at the end of its travel the spent case is ejected and the raiser moved in line with the chamber
>pressure now has dropped and the barrel can return into position with the help of a spring located somewhere
>the gun is ready to fire again
>the trigger mechanism is hidden in the pistol grip section of the stock

I mean it's dumb, but I think it can work.
