Honestly though I kinda regret my purchase.
I bought my SKS right before my state banned AKs, and in retrospect, I would have been better off with a WASR or NPAP. The thing is, with the SKS, even though it's a solid rifle, doesn't do anything that an AK doesn't do just as good if not better.

It's a neat, attractive historical gun that can be had for $225 (about $170 in Ameridollars), what's the issue?

>which state
Having to ask this is an affront to liberty
I imagine there is also magazine and feature restrictions that the sks gets around

I live in Maryland. As bad as it is, at least it isn't Cali.
We are allowed a few AKs in the Old Line State because of technicalities in our laws regarding "copycat weapons". If an AK variant has incompatible moving parts with an AK variant banned by the statute, then it's safe for sale. However, it has to be cleared by the Maryland State Police first.
So far, we can own VEPRs, the SLR-104, and the Zastava M90NP. The problem is that Molot is going bankrupt, and the SLR-104 and M90NP aren't being produced anymore.

A good sks feels more solid to me, but yeah, that's about the only advantage they have over an akm
