Never saw any person, never saw any smoke or flash (not that I would). I'd say they fired a total of 15-20 shots from (maybe) 300 yards.

I'm convinced this wasn't a hunting accident, for a variety of reasons. Couldn't really do anything about it. No cell signal, no physical evidence etc. plus at the time we were considered the big city out-of-towners, and local law enforcement would have been a hassle to deal with.

A little anti-climatic, but the story is worth telling for emphasizing things like situational awareness and whatnot.
