Hello /k/ my grandfather left me this machete as his heirloom, at first sight it might seem okay, but it has a bit of rust and has lost some of it's sharpness, can you guys help me restore it to it's former glory?
it seems to once had some sort of image engraved in it on the side.
A). Restoration*
B). just resharpen it and do him proud by using it for stuff, no need to do much to a machete

Get one of those knife erasers. It's a block that you gently run over the blade, it takes away rust, doesn't fuck the knife up.

All right, i'll try that, thanks!

OP I could be of some assistance in this quest but alas, it would involve a virgin female and the use of this blade in certain operations to be conducted at nite in the location of your Grandfathers final resting place

You're welcome. Check out cutlerylover on YouTube. He has restored some really badly rusted knives with it in

>help me restore my grandfathers $6 machete to it's former glory
naval jelly, a extra fine wire buffing wheel or emery cloth, lrn 2 sharpen a knife, cold blue the thing after getting it to a uniform buffed finish.
Or conversely buy a tramontina and a diamond file for less than the price of a pack of emery cloth and cold blueing.
Oh also i forgot to mention it had this sheath, looks pretty cool but the tip of it is broken, my uncle attempted to fix it with super glue, it did not work.

Machetes are universally a cheap farm tool.
Just leave it over night in vinegar then brush the rust out with an old tooth brush. sharpen it with a literally any sharpening stone and and apply some oil on it to keep it from rusting again. the oil can be the type you use on doors to stop them from squeaking.

You can lightly oil it and put it in a display case that way you always have it as a memory of your gramps.
You can clean it, sharpen it and use it as your go to blade, but what happends if it accidentally gets damaged or lost in a boating accident?
Just buy a cheap machete and leave this one as a memory, but thats just advice coming from a random anon that doest have anything but photos and fading memories to remember a really good guy.
