I bought a Remshit 7400, and I kind of want to give it the reverse bubba treatment. Make it more like milsurp.

It already has irons so I'm off to a god start. But that plasticy laquered finish feels disgusting, and I'd really love to niggerrig a bayonet on there somehow. However, I don't really know much about gun modification.

Bayonet would look spectacularly dinduish on that rifle besides being more work than it's worth unless you are a machinist. If you are then you'll know what to do. Do it right or leave it alone. You can make practice bayonet mounts and hang them on some round stock turned to match the barrel to avoid ni88ering the weapon.

You can easily remove lacquer with paint stripper. I like the methylene chloride "aircraft stripper" in a spray can for small jobs like that.

CLEAN is sexy. Want it to look vintage milsurp? Oil finish the wood and choose a finish you like for the metal.

7.62x39 conversions don't work well so I would suggest just leaving it as a mantelpiece.

You may have a shot at getting proper ammo if you search for what Czech shooters do or if you see if Prvi Partizan will do a one-off run for you.

Last time I remember the Something Awful goons looked into importing ammo it turned out to be ungodly expensive considering they wanted most of the cash upfront and would not cover shipping (which due to the very few shipping companies who would want to touch it meant it was also astronomical).
