Wtf is happening in this pic

Navy D&D
>>
>>34246426

It looks like they're using lego figures to plan flight deck operations, maybe? The bongs haven't had a carrier in a while.
>>
>lego men are all shirtless and not wearing safety belts

it was shit tier and it was in the british navy

seriously how could britian fall so far?
>>
>>34246426
Learning aircraft carrier operations before it goes into service.
>>34246489
Not true, HMS ocean had been used for heli ops. The F35B lands VTOL anyway, so nothing new to learn.
>>
>>34246426
Planning deck operations most likely
PCS in dark blue is aesthetic as fuck
>>

>british navy
you mean the royal navy right?
>>34246506
they sell that stuff on cadet direct if you're interested.

I would expect this from the Japanese not the Brits

>F35B lands VTOL
Isn't it STOL-capable (short takeoff and landing) not straight vertical; despite being originally advertised as such?
>assuming they'll ever get the F-35 to work
>>
>>34246540
No they plan on rolling it so it comes to s stop when it hits the deck.
>>
>>34246540
Came here to say that vertical landing isn't a thing to expect from it unless it has dumped all weapons and most of its fuel.
A Harrier it is not.
>>
>>34246550
Yup. An aircraft that requires crash barriers is not going to be doing Harrier style stop and then land any time soon.
>>
>>34246555
i think you're mixing up takeoff and landing.
>>
>>34246574
F.35 cannot land vertically with weapons and fuel nor can it take off with such.
Which part of that is mixing up landing and take off.

The F-35B has a VLBB (Vertical Lift Bring Back) payload of 2x 1000lb bombs, 2x AMRAAMs, expendables (flares / chaff / decoys) and enough fuel for a STOVL recovery profile (>2,200lb of fuel).
>>
>>34246618
It's lack of ability to bringing home unused stores is something which has to be designed around hence the short rolling landing with a catch barrier required.
Rather like some crappy WWII small carrier operations.
Bag of wank really.

The amount of fanboy wank from you is pathetic.
>>
>>34246652
Is that video slowed down or was it really going as slow as appeared?
>>
>>34246701
show me proof. Even the harrier couldn't do a still landing with load.
>>
>>34246674
Apparently so; 3/4+ of F-35s around the world are still flying. Not much info is known yet, but we know so far that the jets that had the O2 issues were from different LRIPs, had pilots from different squadrons and were all from Luke AFB, which is where all F-35A training (for pilots and maintainers) takes place.

My bet is that it's either:

1. Maintainer / training screw-up - someone didn't follow the written instructions, or has been instructing wrong.

2. Spare parts from some LRIP (maybe the latest LRIP) are out-of-spec and were missed by quality control.

>>34246707
It's moving pretty slow - about 80 knots once it leaves the ramp.
>>
>>34246718
>3/4+ of F-35s around the world are still flying
all twenty of them?

>>34246652

Wow even the ramp has the exact deck paint layout as the QECs.

Like I said, could have also been an (eg: Lockheed) instructor giving the wrong instructions when doing guided training, or it could have been a bad set of spares.

If you have a better idea, I do legit want to hear it.

STOVL*, although the UK plans to use SRVL (basically super STOL) because they have the deck space.
>>

>>I'm sitting on the most advanced warship this country has ever owned, as a member of one of the few blue water navies in the world and I'm playing with fucking legos
I'm kinda jealous to be honest. I've never really quite grown out of legos. Still buy the odd set every now and again when I get the building itch.
>>
>>34247034
>STOVL*, although the UK plans to use SRVL (basically super STOL) because they have the deck space.

Could have had even more if they hadn't shaved some of the deck length.

It's capable of vertical takeoff, at reduced loads (as is any VTOL). The ramp allows launching with greater weights than vertical launches and is therefore preferred.

No. Swing wings are maintenance intensive. The stresses of high-speed flight put a lot of pressure on the joints. There's no reason to suspect that just because the F-35 has things that fold up it will be any more or less maintenance intensive than anything else in service.

STORVL (unless I'm missing something) is meant to be STOVL (Short Take Off, Vertical Landing) - means that it's designed to take off in a short distance and land vertically.

SRVL = Shipborne Rolling Vertical Landing - a somewhat risky method of landing - you come in below your stalling speed and at a weight that's too heavy to maintain a hover. Basically you fly in at like 50 knots, with the engine providing ~90% of your lift and your wings providing the remaining ~10% or so. It basically lets you land on a ship without needing a tail hook and without having to ditch extra weapons in the ocean.

STOL = Short Take Off & Landing - being able to take off and land in a short space.
