The top of the line break barrel gamo igt mach 1 is supposed to shoot 1300 fps in .22 but ii. This video its only shooting 800 fps. I have a benjamin 392 thats shooting almost that fast with normal pump air pneumatic power. Is this because of the weight of the pellet they used? It almost seems like spring piston break barrels only get high velocity when using a light pellet. And light pellets tdont carry well at long range.
Any info appreciated!

pba pellets which are super light + fudging/lying about numbers. standard gamo advertising

My dad fell for it and pretends that their silent cat .177 kills squirrels easily.
>>34245771
this, all advertised airgun speeds are based on perfect conditions with super light ammo.

This, but they do reach pretty high speeds. There's online calculators to estimate pellet speeds based on energy and pellet weight if you want to get a pretty good idea about your gun.

got a .22 benjamin
not nearly as fast as advertised but makes a damn satisfying pwhop on hit
seems to kill squirrels fine

Well if you use 14 grain pellets, a benjamin 392 (.22) shoots about 700 fps while a gamo break barrel with max power only shoots 800 fps with the same pellet weight.
Not that much difference in my view.

Plus springs get weaker over time. So who knows which will shoot better 5 yrs down the road

Aren't the inert gas piston springs more immune to this?
And more consistent across the board for pellet speeds?
>>34246478
I don't see why they would be any more immune, considering they were made of the same spring steel. Also, gas pistons have seals that can and do degrade.
I have a Gamo SOCOM Extreme that was advertised at 1700 fps with light ammo. It's a .177, and drops squirrels at 30 yds with one pop. I use heavier pellets to make sure there is max energy on impact. I do not own a chrony, but those lighter pellets really crack through the air, easily as loud as a .22 rifle.

28% more energy if that means anything to you.
>Not dieseling your pellets to get those high speed gains.

I know. 1/2mv^2 im not an atf agent- i understood physics

Airguns don't do supersonic well.
Think about it you spastic.

I have one. It does.
I'm not sure what the speed is, but at 25 yards my Gamo S.C. shoots right through a 3/4 inch slab of particle board even with the cheap Daisy pellets.
