So me and a buddy of mine are curious about potentially exploring an obsolete sewer/rain complex underneath our hometown. What should we take for protection? Possibly just knives and blunt objects in the possibility of high ppm of gases? I have a gas monitor from work that can detect that stuff. Also, any Kansas urban/outdoor exploration stories?
This area in particular.

1, do you know how to use it correctly?
2, when was the last time it was calibrated?
3, what gasses and in what range of ppm is it designed or set up to test?
Im betting you can't answer these

Just bring a mask rated to protect you from asbestos. It'll filter any shit that doesn't need a gas mask.
Bring a good med kit.
A few meters of rope and other basic tools. Don't forget a ligther or matches, you never know when it could be useful.
And a good camera.
That's all you need.
Chalk. Several big bits of chalk.
You need to mark your forward route at junctions so you can back follow easily. Those systems can quickly twist and turn and you're then lost in a maze.

Good idea. Also a flashlight per person, with lots of spare batteries.
