I don't know much about Australia's home defense laws but I'm assuming there's no castle doctrine or much protection for those who kill in self defense.
So I'd imagine smashing a home intruder's head in with a medieval warhammer would buttfuck you legally

Yeah our self defense laws are fucking stupid. We literally have people go to prison for using "excessive defensive force", even in a home invasion situation.

I could just break his knee, shin, or rib, or stab him in the leg with the pointy backhead bit. Surely that'll hold him off for the solid 10-15 minutes it takes for the police to arrive :^)

In Australia it is forbidden by law to have an object in the house/on your person for the use of self-defence. You will get done on weapons charges if you use something like this on another person. make sure you either attend HEMA or have a collection of medieval weapons so you can use that as your defence in court as to why you had such a thing on hand in your home.
