That photo was a mistake. The Japanese government somehow got a hold of it and made copies. They showed it to everybody with a set of eyeballs and used it as propaganda, a tangible example of American barbarism. It's part of the reason why Japanese soldiers were so damn fanatical about not surrendering. The Shinto religion places a high value on the treatment of human remains, and Japanese propaganda exploited this quite effectively to paint Americans as deranged sickos who had to be stopped at all cost.

Well, a couple of weeks ago i saw a poster in a WW2 exhibition in a museum around here that was made to encourage women to use fewer ingredients for cooking (to save money / imported food), using a phrase like : "German hosewive! This cooking book is your weapon!"

Not an ad, but the prize for the dumbest / dullest propaganda stamps in my opinion goes to US and Japan.
Americas was a stamp with simply their eagle and the inscription WIN THE WAR.
Not much better was Japans one, just a ornamented frame with THE ENEMY WILL SURRENDER in it.
